"We stayed one night, with dinner, bed and breakfast and everything was just perfect. The inn itself is an old and interesting building; staff are friendly and efficient; good choice of real ales and delicious food. Our room was quaint, clean and had everything we needed. I will happily stay again. Thank you team Harvard Inn!"

"I have ordered food from this restaurant several times now and have no complaints about the quality or price. However, the delivery service is very poor. The first time we ordered, we waited nearly 2 hours and I ended up walking to the restaurant to pick it up, only to receive a call from my wife saying the food had arrived while I was out. I tried calling to check on the order, but couldn't get through. Other reviews seem to agree with this experience. They also have a permanent advertisement for delivery drivers in the window, which might be part of the problem. It's a great curry house for collection since we are only 5 minutes away."

"I have been there three times. The food is very genuine italian and really delicious and tasty. Large menu card and great âtodays specialsâ. Prices are very reasonable. Alexander and his crew are lovely and professional and serve with a smile. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. Highly recommended both for business dinners and also for families."

"After visiting another restaurant on Chorley New Road, we decided to check out this new addition to their collection. We found the quirky two-level layout of the restaurant to be much more appealing. We used to go there when it was called Shadus, an Indian restaurant. Retreat has clearly invested a lot in the decor and ambiance, creating a very comfortable interior. For anyone who may have difficulty with stairs, I recommend requesting a table on the ground floor, as dining is available on both levels."

"Posting on behalf of Wife. Humiliated in front of other diners purely for coming in with a double pram. One female member of staff pointed at newborns babies saying they can’t accommodate that ‘thing’. It’s small enough to fit through a single door so doesn’t take up much more space than a single pram! Even offered to put pram away and place chairs at the table to create more space which received huffs from staff around the inconvenience of having two sleeping babies in their chairs! Made to feel unwelcome and anxious for the duration of lunch so left swiftly within an hour. Fortunately other diners were lovely but staff are in serious need of training on how to treat customers. Numerous new mothers struggle with anxiety going out with babies and that kind of treatment of an individual struggling could have a serious impact on their mental health. Disgusting behaviour."

"I have walked passed this cafe several times and not noticed it, nestled next to the big Co-Op supermarket in Moseley. So, I was glad when a friend said let's meet there. It was surprisingly spacious, with a lovely ambience and a great range of goodies to eat. Freshly baked bread pastries baked onsite with a distinctively French vibe. They also offer a more extended lunch menu, plus the usual coffee variations and teas. I didn't venture out to their garden because it was drizzling with rain, but from what I could see, it looked like a nice space for warmer days. The young Black lady who served was very helpful we didn't feel pressured to leave when we were finished. I will be back! Recommended stop."

"I booked in for a Bollywood night. There was 4 of us, 2 people are meat eaters and 2 people are vegans. When I booked online as suggested by a member of staff when I called, as if they couldn 't do it over the phone (all the bookings where hand written on a piece of paper when we got there, oh and the only thing that was noted is that i paid £20 deposit but not the fact that our table required vegan based menu) in the notes section online I specifically said we will require a vegan menu. When we were seated at the table the waiter didn 't give us a drinks menu or a set food menu for us to look at. When they served food I questioned about which one was a vegan option, the staff looked very confused they didn 't know what I was talking about. Asked to speak to a manager, the waiter didn 't even bother getting the manager so I had get up to find someone only to discover that the manager was not available as he was in the kitchen busy, im sure that he was completely unaware that there is a table that required a vegan option menu. A lovely female member of staff came out from the kitchen assuring me that there is vegan based menu, trust me there wasn 't. The starter was ok, but to have 2 potato dishes, cauliflower and lentils as a main with £40 ahead and no desert, for a restaurant its pretty appalling. The menu for meat eaters was ok, really not worth £40 ahead. Now we get to the service... poor doesn 't even describe it. Chef came across as having an attitude every time he attended the table. It did not feel very welcoming or accommodating towards our needs, and it came across as a bother. After the mains We were not even asked about deserts, I had to get up and ask if there is any deserts to come, 2 of us had a desert, which was ok, too frozen couldn 't even use a spoon but for vegan option all we got As a desert is coffee black, couldn 't even have milk as had no other milks available.£80 for a standard of vegan options we had was absolutely outrageous. Most waiters didn 't really understand if you asked them a simple question, all we got is I go and get someone but that someone never came. I never write reviews because opinions do vary, but after this meal I was extremely disappointed with the restaurant atmosphere, attitude and just simply not valuing their customer. There was only one lady that worked there behind the bar that actually was helpful and pleasant."

"My partner and I dined at this restaurant last night, and I personally believe it was the best Indian food I have had in years. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated at a table. We had purchased an Itison voucher (two courses for two people, with a choice of house red or white wine) which only cost us £17 total. The starters were beautifully presented and tasted delicious, setting us up nicely for our main courses. I chose the South Indian garlic chilli dish, while my husband opted for the Nepalese bhuna. Both dishes were flavorful and authentic. Since we had used an Itison voucher, we paid for the poppadoms and chutney before heading home to relax for the evening. Overall, I must say that for a restaurant that had just opened a few weeks ago, the service was friendly and the food was exceptional. Keep up the good work, Essence - we will definitely be back."

"Good ambience... And that's the only good thing! Food some items are ok like naan bread. But curries were bad. Especially Tikka masala was so sweet like dessert. Service was pathetically slow. Pulav rice was like yesterday's left out plain rice. Will not visit again, given there are so many other Indian restaurants around."

"This long-standing restaurant on Sydenham Road stays true to its roots and is truly a gem! I have dined here 3/4 times now with different friends and family members, and we always leave feeling satisfied. The food is consistently of a high standard, and the service, especially from Pavi, is warm and friendly. She goes above and beyond to make you feel special, and her smile is the perfect finishing touch to an already exceptional dining experience. The ambience instantly transports me back to the authentic Indian restaurants of the past: pristine white linen, rich decor, attentive professional staff, and delicious cuisine. I can't wait to come back soon! Best of luck to the entire team!"

"We had a delightful Sunday roast that was very satisfying, and we definitely got our money's worth. The charming little building created a cozy atmosphere, and they were kind enough to accommodate us and our dogs in a quiet area, even though it wasn't too crowded. There was also a lovely band playing, which the dogs seemed to enjoy as well!"

"Excellent dinner in her walled garden in one of the pods. A warm welcome from the always charming Baz before served on local seasonal dishes with a good selection of wines through the glass and an interesting alcohol-free cocktail for the driver. We had asparagus, crabs, cod steak all perfectly cooked before we share an anniversary drink. Special mention of the always smiling Jake who looked around us. The new Chef Jon Parry is a great addition to the Oxford food scene, try his food."

"I used to enjoy a night out at Harry's Bar in Billericay before the lockdown, finding it to be a classy establishment. However, during my recent visit, I found that the atmosphere had deteriorated. The bar was filled with very drunk and loud individuals, typical of the Essex party scene. By 9pm, the patrons were already rowdy and stumbling around, leading me to believe that the bar may require additional security as the night progresses. The female toilets were in poor condition, lacking toilet paper and with taps that barely functioned. Navigating the stairs was also a challenge due to the intoxicated individuals struggling to climb them. The staff was a mixed bag - the male bartender made me a nice cocktail, but the female bartenders were unfriendly and seemed disinterested in their work. After a few drinks, I decided to leave with my friend and head to a nearby pub where we had a great time. It seems that Harry's Bar has transformed into a rowdy, meat market club where patrons come to get drunk and dress provocatively. I have heard that the food is good during the day, so I may return for lunch in the future."

"I 'm genuinely not sure if this is a real place or if we were inadvertently cast in a comedy sketch. A group of 6 of us arrived for lunch. It 's an order at the bar situation, and we ordered in 3 groups so we expected some difference in the timings of the dishes which is fine though not the 30 minutes between mine and my partners dish. When we asked the staff to check on the whereabouts of the much anticipated pizza, he returned to tell us it would be another 10 minutes as the pizza man was on his break ?? With every dish arrival there was the unusual question of do you want cutlery? , I haven 't eaten sausage mash and gravy with my hands before and today didn 't feel like the day to start. The staff seemed bewildered during any interaction. One bringing a lone spoon to us when we had no food, another bringing a second not ordered pizza at the end of the meal, another arrived to ask if we had finished our meal before we 'd even begun. We raised our complaints to the manager, who refunded some of the meals and offered us a free replacement which was appreciated, although declined. The food was subpar. The pizza was somehow both burnt and raw, the curry was cold, the Cumberland sausage unevenly cooked. The chips however very tasty."

"We booked in Oct after seeing the Xmas menu and having been here many times felt on 23/12 it would be a romantic xmas dinner. They had our booking and were expecting us but no record that we had booked in person for the xmas dinner which as a result meant we could not have anything off it. We were adivsed the only difference between that and the normal menu was the turkey roast which is not my recollection from seeing it in Oct and if so, why have a xmas menu when it is no different to the normal meun and encourage us to visit under false pretences. We chose off the limited menu a Thai prawn curry. I could have done better myself. The curry was just spiced rice with aubergines and a few cooked prawns on top that had not been flavoured at all. When my partner queried and said it was very average the waitress agreed it was not the best dish on the menu but no attempt was made to discount. We had the pate as a starter which was fine but after the main course left without dessert or coffee but having wasted best part of a £100 for a wholly inadequate experience. The fire had gone out, the ambience was not festive and the food poor. Even the carpet looked like it had not seen a hoover in weeks. I will await a response as I wonder if the pub can afford to lose regualrs in this way however lovely the location"

"I’ve never had a bad experience at the quarter their decor is very cool and unique and their food and drinks are always made to a very high standard. They have an impressive amount of vegetarian and vegan options on both their daytime and evening menus (bagels, sandwiches, pasta, curry, salad, nachos, burgers etc) as well as dedicated vegetarian and vegan menus for their tapas nights on a Thursday and offer different plant-based milks for hot drinks. They genuinely have something for everybody only criticisms are that their portion sizes can be rather big so make sure you’re hungry !!"
