"My wife and I found the food disappointing and it seemed to be overpriced for the quality received. We had been looking for an alternative venue for Sunday lunch but have decided not to include Cafe Rouge in the list of our regular venues. On the other hand, the staff were pleasant and attentive but this did not make up for the standard of food."

"Decided to try here as we were stopping at the Holiday Inn Express. Was surprised to see such a big bar area and a bit disappointed that there were numerous TV screens placed around it all showing football. Whilst this isn't advertised as a Sports Bar , it clearly is which means our table conversation had to compete with the TVs and the cheering guests at times. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy and our orders were taken quickly and efficiently by very friendly staff. None of us were disappointed with our food but neither was anyone over the moon; it was just alright. There is an interesting selection of food on offer with a bias towards spicy and the katsu curry seemed a popular choice. We were a bit taken aback by the 10% service charge even though it was discretionary so beware. The staff were very polite and attentive but this may be because they weren't very busy so we'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Overall, this was not an unpleasant experience but I doubt we'll be returning."

"We were served efficiently despite it being very busy. I told our waiter we had to catch a train and he was very polite, friendly and efficient. When the toilet roll had run out in the toilets as soon as we mentioned it it was sorted. Portions on the slightly small side I felt and I had to ask for more veg for the children but other than than was a nice experience."

"I enjoyed both the breakfast and the birthday lunch that I had recently that I wrote straight to Trip Advisor to recommend Cafe Rouge in Bury St Edmunds. The food was not run of the mill' but was well cooked with imaginative touches and just the right amount. My friend and I chose three different items on the menu and we were both delighted and our waitress was charming and helpful. Your booking system is so easy and I had the opportunity to ask to sit in a side room as I can hear better. When we arrived we were automatically shown to a table where I had asked without any fuss. It was a thoroughly good experience which I shall repeat."

"My review is not for Café Rouge, but for Opentable, who I booked through. When we arrived and said we had a booking for two people, they knew nothing of this booking. Apparently Opentable had not updated the bookings, and according to the member of staff, this often happens. It wasn't busy so we were able to get seated anyway, and the service and food was very good as always. I will not use Opentable to make my bookings again, sorry."

"booked online, had confirmation email, but when we arrived, it was not booked. no probs have a table. I ordered a chicken flour that I would press as a breast, but actually was on the bone - my fault not to check. a piece was in order, the other piece was so hard I couldn't get it out of the bone. I ordered eaton mess for desert that was in the grunde a court of yogurt with pieces of meringue in it. the service was good, the poor food."

"great burger. the pull-rib-croque was good, a bit sweet, covered with cheese, as it should, but in lactose intolerance, so I removed it (painted it off). I should have told them, but I forgot. beautiful decoration both for romantic time or friends I hate to say, but the steak was much too cooked, although ordered medium rare. and quite small n flat as u can see on the picture - looks like a shoe sole. but again hühnerburger astonishingly juicy"

"Pleasant staff, tasty food but so slow. Table booked and arrived at 5pm order taken 5.15 with hardly anyone in the restaurant; first course arrived 5.40 and although very tasty the mushroom vol au vent had been microwaved and gone cold with soggy pastry. Main courses, after reminding waiter, arrived at 6.25 with an apology. We were due at theatre at 7pm so no dessert! House wine very pleasant and set menu meal good value."

"Cafe Rouge is a classic and welcoming restaurant with plenty of space and friendly service. However, on Mother's Day, it was extremely busy and there were some delays in serving. Despite some complaints from other tables, the waiter worked hard and was apologetic. The French onion soup was delicious, but the medium rare steak was overcooked, which was a letdown. This restaurant is child-friendly and a great place to spend a few hours, despite the mishaps. I would definitely visit again."

"The food was delicious, but I felt that the portion size was not enough for the price. I was still hungry after finishing my meal. The staff were friendly, but we felt ignored despite the restaurant not being very busy. We eventually gave up waiting to order dessert and decided to just ask for the bill instead. It was a shame because the restaurant is in a beautiful building and the food was good."

"I booked the table on line, but when I showed a member of staff the confirmation from opentable there appeared to be a problem. We were given a table, then another member of staff asked to see the reservation and claimed that they didn't know that they were with opentable for bookings! They said that they wouldn't ask us to leave and they would look into it!! There were a lot of things off the menu and it appeared that there was a problem in the kitchen! This is the second time that they have taken quite a lot off of the menu, better planning and management is required."
"Asked for Autumn Menu and were given 4 Prosecco. One of us did not like the choice and choose meals from main menu. We were not asked to give back a Prosecco. No one else in the restaurant. Waitress was also chef when we came to dessert. We ordered 1 pint of beer and were brought 2. Sent 1 back. When we tried to use our Tesco Club Card points to pay we were told that they were not valid for the Autumn Menu. We were charged for the extra Prosecco and we were charged for the 2nd pint of beer that had been returned. Lighting inside the restaurant was very poor and it was depressing being the only 4 people in the restaurant when we were celebrating a very special birthday."

"Had a delicious dinner with fabulous friends in the Hyndland Fox no doubt made all the more rosy by bottles and bottles of spot on house red.... late last year and have since been back for a brilliant brunch I 'd promise 'no more cheesy alliterations ', but that would be a lie . It 's such a lovely, bright space and on both occasions we found the staff to be absolute dolls. We dined on the Mezzanine both times... the overhead beams and charming interiors really are a triumph. What I 'm most proud of is coercing my brunch muching companions into taking photos of each of their dishes, to be put away for a momentous occasion... such as the drafting of this review. While they each hated me at the time, I hope you dear reader will love me for it. I had the Salt Beef Hash £6.95 which from the moment the words left my lips to place the order... I was having taste bud driven heart palpitations over. It was super tasty but the portion was quite small. And I honestly don 't think that was just my big bum talking I hope!? . I felt like my meal was over in fewer forkfuls while everyone else was eating on in blissful brunchy heaven. My pals had the Hot Smoked Salmon £7.95 and the Smoked Black Forest Ham £7.45 and my wonderful wife had the Cooked Brekky £8.95 . While part of me was delighted to see her savouring every mouthful, the less lovely and therefore much larger part of me secretly hoped she 'd offer to trade... She didn 't. All in all, love the Fox and we will be back! Just for my regular puppy loving intel unfortunately the venue does not accept dogs... only... err... foxes."

"Old English hotel vibe, white table cloths, attentive though ultimately suffocating service. Atmosphere a bit painful, quiet, stuffy, uncomfortable. Appetizers were great, steak was dreadful. Thin and badly cooked. I sent it back and got a duplicate of the poor quality. They graciously comped it and we made a hasty exit vowing never to return."

"Been coming to applebys for many years and it has never disappointed. The food is very good and the service quality is amazing. Me and my family have always felt welcome at applebys, due to its friendly atmosphere and fantastic staff who are always happy to help with any dietary requirements you may have. Will continue to enjoy the breakfasts and homemade delights for years to come!"

"The restaurant was cozy and inviting, with friendly and attentive staff. Despite being two elderly ladies, we were not seated in a neglected corner but instead given a lovely table by the window. The chicken dish we ordered was incredibly tasty, and I look forward to returning to have it again. Overall, our experience was very satisfying."

"First of all check your juice. Those are not pips, they are simply worms. Happy, drunk of juice and dead but still worms : when we sent it back we were told it's because they keep oranges for two days before they juice them... Hm. Well we have never seen black larva worms in oranges but who knows? Food is okay, nothing special. We have a comparison to haggis from different restaurants and this one was just ok. Staff are friendly but they didn't do anything to compensate we had three worms swimming in our orange juice. We had poached eggs with haggis and breakfast hash skillet meal. It was all ok but that's it. We won't be coming back."

"A group of 6 of us dine together every Wednesday evening, and we frequently choose Café Rouge in Hitchin as our spot. Given that it was Valentine's night this past Wednesday, we opted for the special menu, which we found to be quite enjoyable. Despite the restaurant being fairly busy, the service was not impacted."

"The impressive driveway leads to a stunning Georgian mansion that will definitely leave a lasting impression. Don't be deceived by the car park, as the best is yet to come! The mansion, built in 1722, is surrounded by 312 acres of picturesque parkland with lakes, situated on the River Uck. There is also a charming 13th century church, St Margaret the Queen, and a local cricket club on the grounds. Inside the church, you will find beautiful stained glass windows to admire. The rooms may not all be as spacious as expected, but they are airy and comfortable, some even with balconies. The suites, as seen in the brochure, are luxurious and spacious. Regardless of the room size, the grand staircases will make you feel like royalty. The staff are welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The Orangery and Fine Dining Room offer excellent food, amazing wines, and delectable desserts. Breakfast is buffet-style with a good selection to suit every taste. Guests can also enjoy the small gym, sauna, and spa. The ambiance of a bygone era, leisurely walks, delicious food, and gorgeous surroundings create a special experience. Whether you are looking for a dining experience, afternoon tea, short break, or wedding venue, this is the perfect place. The mansion is also conveniently located near other local attractions. Keep an eye out for special offers to make your stay even more enjoyable. The menu wines are reasonably priced, but be prepared for slightly expensive cocktails and bar drinks."
