"I made a reservation online and received a confirmation email, but when we arrived, our booking was not found. However, we were still able to get a table. I ordered a chicken dish that I thought would be breast meat, but it turned out to be on the bone - my mistake for not checking. One piece was good, but the other was so tough that I couldn't separate it from the bone. For dessert, I ordered an Eton Mess, which was essentially a bowl of yogurt with pieces of meringue. The service was good, but the quality of the food was lacking."

"Came here for something to eat/anniversary dinner before going to Sadler's Wells.....normally we go to The Gate further down towards the Theatre but its closed so we needed a new venue without just walking around. I found this on line. This was perfect.....The main courses...of Steak and Muscles we had were perfectly cooked as was the location and the staff.....especially the staff. However....the best bit was the Banoffee and Ice cream desert......just perfect and lovely....Make sure you have space for desert....I think during the day they will do lots of deserts with a cup of tea as these are all at the front of the Restaurant. There are a lot of places in this area...In our experience if you chose the F&O you will have a great meal, in a great location. Thank you for starting our evening off in a perfect way....And the Nutcracker at SW was great as well."

"Cafe Rouge is a classic and welcoming restaurant with plenty of space and friendly service. However, on Mother's Day, it was extremely busy and there were some delays in serving. Despite some complaints from other tables, the waiter worked hard and was apologetic. The French onion soup was delicious, but the medium rare steak was overcooked, which was a letdown. This restaurant is child-friendly and a great place to spend a few hours, despite the mishaps. I would definitely visit again."
"We used to frequent this restaurant often because of the great food and kid-friendly atmosphere, with quick and friendly staff making it a good value. However, our recent experience on Mother's Day was disappointing. When my wife arrived slightly before me, the manager watched her struggle with a pram and did not offer to help. Additionally, half of the menu items were already sold out by noon. When the food did arrive, my wife's medium steak was overcooked and solid. The server did not address her concerns, and the service was slow overall. We were also overcharged, which I thankfully noticed before paying. It is disappointing to see the decline in the quality of the restaurant, likely due to a change in management. Our experience left us feeling ripped off and put a damper on our special occasion. Unfortunately, we do not plan to return to this restaurant."

"Pleasant staff, tasty food but so slow. Table booked and arrived at 5pm order taken 5.15 with hardly anyone in the restaurant; first course arrived 5.40 and although very tasty the mushroom vol au vent had been microwaved and gone cold with soggy pastry. Main courses, after reminding waiter, arrived at 6.25 with an apology. We were due at theatre at 7pm so no dessert! House wine very pleasant and set menu meal good value."

"besides eating, the best of cafe rouge at 52 low petergate, is their street front fassade. especially in the night when light and warm shine through these large windows. a look and they want to be part of what goes inside. sometimes my man and I come to different meal times. that was one of those times. he was ready for a hearty meal and I wanted nothing but coffee and a snack. his boeuf bourguignon was beautiful. fender meat and much of it. And look at the fresh beans! they could probably find better boeuf bourguignon in a high-end restaurant, but for the price and the ambiente, cafe rouge on low petergate can not beat. yes, cafe rouge is a...read more"

"just after the reopening it was not sure how it would be. you go in, get your temperature scanned and you sit when you come by (I don't know what happens when your attempt looks suspicious). we sit on them between tables with people who are not really looking for a safe distance. we wanted to try the scrambled eggs and cornish crab however due to the reduction of the available items, this was not on the menu, but if we asked for it, our waiter went into the kitchen and got them to make it. they would highly recommend for their quality of food and first class service!"

"The food was delicious, but I felt that the portion size was not enough for the price. I was still hungry after finishing my meal. The staff were friendly, but we felt ignored despite the restaurant not being very busy. We eventually gave up waiting to order dessert and decided to just ask for the bill instead. It was a shame because the restaurant is in a beautiful building and the food was good."

"One of my favourite clubs , musics good , nice vibe and decor , the manager and door staff are nice people to be honest not clowns unlike other places... they play rnb, I’d say a mix of 2000s and current , the back room of the top is the same sort of music. I can’t give 5 stars as you never open downstairs anymore, and sometimes the drinks taste watered down on panda fridays ... but overall I’d reccomend going !"

"Very good lunch with friends we had not seen for sometime. We chose the set menu so couldn't use Gourmet card except for drinks but still good value. Only quibble my husband was told he could have a sweet and main in place of the starter and main but we discovered later that he had been charged the £3 surcharge for the sweet! We will certainly be back in the New Year."
"Food was not fresh, lumpy couscous, cold and stodgy potatoes. Nothing like the original cafe rouge, did not represent value for money. Far too expensive for what it was. We would not go there again. A clearly struggling chain with a tiny menu ... strangely enough little was actually French cuisine. Sorry for bad review but that was disappointing and I would really like my money back."

"We made a reservation through OpenTable, but unfortunately our booking was not found. Luckily, they had tables available when we brought our parents for a special meal while they were visiting from Scotland for Easter. We booked through the IHG website so there may have been a glitch in the system. It was not ideal to arrive at the restaurant and not have a reservation. The food was tasty and the staff was friendly. The portions were generous and the dishes were delicious. The atmosphere felt more like a shopping mall than a traditional restaurant, which was fine but not ideal for special occasions."

"My review is not for Café Rouge, but for Opentable, who I booked through. When we arrived and said we had a booking for two people, they knew nothing of this booking. Apparently Opentable had not updated the bookings, and according to the member of staff, this often happens. It wasn't busy so we were able to get seated anyway, and the service and food was very good as always. I will not use Opentable to make my bookings again, sorry."

"big prizes, small portions. I went on Saturday with a group of friends in the residency. I ordered the risotto for the main, which was beautiful, was tiny, I even wondered if they had brought me an initial part until my friend reached the same size. another friend ordered a filet steak that was about the size of a satsuma! the waitress constantly sleeps the wine glasses high and emptied the bottle twice before she came to me, so we were forced to order both paints another bottle. on the table was another bottle of foam water that no one had ordered, but at the end of the night stood on the bill! the restuarant itself, atmosphere etc. is beautiful but...read more"

"great burger. the pull-rib-croque was good, a bit sweet, covered with cheese, as it should, but in lactose intolerance, so I removed it (painted it off). I should have told them, but I forgot. beautiful decoration both for romantic time or friends I hate to say, but the steak was much too cooked, although ordered medium rare. and quite small n flat as u can see on the picture - looks like a shoe sole. but again hühnerburger astonishingly juicy"

"This was a family outing with my 2 daughters 4 grandchildren, table booked for 12.30 pm with tickets booked for Windsor Castle time was important to us. We had 2 offers with us 40% off mains or free kids meal with every adult meal, it depended whether my eldest grandson had a childs meal or a main as to which one was used. We decided on the free childs meal with every main as he had a childs meal. All went well until we were waiting to order desserts, I had to get up and ask to order desserts, after two reminders the desserts finally turned up after about 35 mins, although we were missing one Eton Mess and one childs ice cream. My Eton Mess, the first 1 to arrive, was quite 'runny soft ' I could have complained but I was beginning to loose the plot. 2 of my grandsons didn 't have the childs drink, 1 had tap water, free and 1 had cola, chargable. The fun really started when I asked for the bill, as well as being charged for 4 childs meals we had 4 extra charges, 2 childs starters £2.50 each and 2 childs ice creams £1.50 each, an extra £8.00 when I queried it I was told 'but you have 3 x £6.95 deducted, this was the offer!!!! and the 4 childs meals were included in the bill. After some heated conversation the bill was returned to me but still £4.00 too much, 1 child starter £2.50 1 child ice cream £1.50. Your member of staff Bertrand was quite adamant it was correct, at this stage I asked for a calculator and we added up the bill manually and guess who was right, ME!!!!!! So I paid and we left. With the wait for desserts and the confrontation over bill we finally left at 2.45 pm in my opinion probably an hour wasted which we could have spent in the castle which was the main reason for our trip that day. What I find really annoying is that with many overseas visitors how many others are being 'RIPPED OFF '? We eat regularly in your Reading Henley restaurants and will continue to do so BUT WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE RETURNING TO WINDSOR. Pizza Express next time."

"Asked for Autumn Menu and were given 4 Prosecco. One of us did not like the choice and choose meals from main menu. We were not asked to give back a Prosecco. No one else in the restaurant. Waitress was also chef when we came to dessert. We ordered 1 pint of beer and were brought 2. Sent 1 back. When we tried to use our Tesco Club Card points to pay we were told that they were not valid for the Autumn Menu. We were charged for the extra Prosecco and we were charged for the 2nd pint of beer that had been returned. Lighting inside the restaurant was very poor and it was depressing being the only 4 people in the restaurant when we were celebrating a very special birthday."

"I came here for breakfast, and if there is one thing you need to order it's the Brioche French Toast with maple syrup and bacon because it it a revelation. To me, it has got to be one of the best french toasts' in town! Hands down. The bacon is crispy, the brioche fluffy and tasty with cinnamon. I absolutely love it and I think it would happily eat more of this! The staff is really friendly, and the decor is lovely and fresh and very calming. I ordered a macchiato, upon which I got a really rather strange stare and a slightly flabbergasted response, as this is not something that is ever ordered. Either way, it was exactly the way I like it. It was strong and wonderful. For always I want to recommend this place to everybody with a special mention of the brioche french toast!"

"Chenestons is a wonderful find! We couldn’t have had a more superb experience. Leo and Julia are really excellent – their customer service is outstanding. All the other staff were equally superb, warm and genuine, I didn’t catch their names. It really is a special place and I was so excited because some of my favourite music is Glenn Miller and Al Bowlly and this was gently playing in the background which enhances the 1930s and 40s feel of the place. I was in utter heaven! The food was wonderful. We had help choosing our wine and Leo understood exactly what we liked and what would match our food and he didn’t oversell or make us choose a really expensive bottle. We appreciated this very much. The cauliflower starter was exquisite as was my smoked salmon. My halibut was gorgeous and my fiancé’s chicken pie was perfect. We visited for lunch before the Proms that evening and it really was a day we will never forget. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to come back."

"The musical duo at the restaurant was very talented, but the volume was a bit too loud. We found ourselves having to speak loudly to hear each other at times. However, as the evening went on, it became easier to hear, so we may have just gotten used to it. The food selection was great and everything we ordered was delicious. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dining experience."
