"Old Tree in London's Chinatown is my go-to spot for amazing Taiwanese food. It's a laid-back place where the dishes always hit the spot. Think flavour-packed, homestyle cooking that's seriously good. Yes, it's cash-only, but who cares when the food is this tasty? It's the kind of place you'll want to keep coming back to, just like I do. Whether you're a Taiwanese food newbie or a seasoned pro, you're in for a treat. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you! "

"I am very sorry to post this review but last two weeks I have been waiting way too long for the food I called in ordering it 1 hour before. Last week waited over 40 min and today over 20 min as well. The food is always great and also very polite lady in the counter but this isn’t acceptable. It’s clearly the slowest Chinese restaurant I have been and I have been to hundreds in this country. If it’s busy don’t tell 1h, tell it will take longer, that is not a problem, standing while waiting is. Also when it is running late the minimum is offering a drink or prawn crackers, this shouldn’t even be said by a customer, owners should know this! I have been a customer for a few months now every Friday, I believe I deserve more!"

"I'd like to have rated the restaurant at 3.5. I went with a 4 as 3 would have been harsh. The restaurant is buffet style, eat as much as you want for a fixed price in a set period of time. There is a good selection of food; Chinese, Indian, Japanese, carvery, Italian, salad bars, a BBQ style grill, and some miscellaneous bits like chips, chicken wings etc, there is also lots of desert options. There should be something for everyone including a good selection of vegetarian options. The food is of a reasonable quality and is topped up continuously. The staff are polite and friendly, the dirty plates left on the table when you go for your next visit to the buffet magically disappear so you come back to a clean table. Kids are welcome. Unfortunately kids are the reason I knocked half a star of the score. While most kids in Cosmo were well behaved, there was one family celebrating a birthday who were letting their kids run around out of search control. The kids were banging into tables, one poor woman nearly ended up face first in her food! Unfortunately the staff did not step in and ask them to behave. Fortunately, customers from several of the nearby tables did... All in all a good place to visit, it's not Michelin quality food, but it certainly represents good quality and value for money. Great for a crowd, fussy eaters or people who like to try lots of different things."

"This place is so disappointing. It looks beautiful on the outside, stunning and huge. On the inside is dirty, it smells very bad. The service is ridiculous, I booked a week in advance asking for a table outside for my anniversary and they gave us a table inside between other tables. The music is so loud and is not possible to have a conversation. The food is the worst part. We paid almost £30 for an appetizer which was literally frozen and deep fried chicken and pork covered in sauces. The lobster was disappointing, didn't tastes like fresh as they say, completely covered in parsley and garlic. The shrimps were still dirty (the black part on the back, which is the intestine, was still there, I had to remove it). They served the lobster without the tool to open it, I had to ask for it. The waitresses were never around, I had to stand up and going chase them for everything we needed. We received our drinks at the end of the dinner, when it was too late. On the bill they charged a bottle of wine that we never had, I had to chase the Waitress to ask her to remove it. Everything was just so oily and didn't tastes fresh at all. I don't recommend it at all unfortunately, it's located in a wonderful place but the service and the food is a 0/10."

"I 'm so glad this place has now re opened fully for dine in, and it 's been nicely redecorated too. I 've never their buffet option, but I 've been for an evening meal once and for their special weekday business lunch menu dozens of times. The quality of the food is consistently excellent and the lunchtime menu is superb value with a good choice of dishes with two courses for £10.95 per person or three for just £1 more. It 's always spotlessly clean with fast service too. I agree with other reviewers the service can be a little variable some of the staff are very smiley, friendly and chatty, the others can be... well let 's call them coldly efficient , but never actually rude. It 's consistently excellent food for a very fair price though so definitely worth a go."

"Sadly, this special family meal was not quite worth the huge expense. The forest Gump decor was good, The food was OK (not mind blowing . The service was very depressing. Our waitress didn't smile once and looked like she would rather be anywhere else. It left a very bitter taste in my mouth when they sent us out the bill and had added a 12.5% service charge ontop of it, taking away the right for us to chose how much tip (if any we would like to leave on reflection of our experience (what a tip is actually for! She also didn't bother to do the maths when I split the bill with cash and card, and instead of asking me if I was happy to pay an additional 29p because she couldn't work out how much to put on the card machine, she silently passed me the machine charging this extra money because she clearly couldn't be bothered to work it out. No one said goodbye to us when we left the restaurant, despite walking past several waiters and my son saying thank you and goodbye to them. We won't be back. Oh and also kids eat free? Yep, only on their main meal (mini pizza our end . You have to pay for their dessert and drink."

"when this place first opened, it was not too bad, exactly above average, but I have been praised twice since and never to go back. my second visit was a year later and not great, but I thought it was a third visit to give naiw to the place a different chance was good bad. eating is now terrible and greasy, not even warm to mention. eating tastes and looks like it's been there for a long time. the worst part of the experience was the service and the general hygiene of the place. the service was not existent except if they want their money and I made the personal aware of some dead bugs that I could see on the floor and they accused me of bringing them to their restaurant to try...more"

"Shrimpy is everywhere now. I first discovered them at spitalfields and have been meaning to try them. They were participating in the munch club at Camden so I decided to check them out. It was really hard choosing which one to dine as there were so many options but Shrimpy was on the list. Tried two burgers, one with fried shrimps and the other grilled. The fried one was stunning, big pieces of shrimps but then the coating was quite thick so you get that lovely crunch. The grilled one was not so good, the prawns were overdone, dehydrated, black, chewy and bitter. The buns were a bit too burnt for my liking. What makes these buns and Shrimpy unique is that they use Samphire and the salad in the bun was refreshing with thin slices of cucumber and fennel. Overall, it was good apart from the grilled shrimps so I would advise getting the fried shrimps."

"Although they seemed a little short staffed this evening, the food was of great quality and a lovely atmosphere. New menu has some good additions. I myself had the burger combo sizzle, steak was cooked just how I liked and the burger tasted great, plentiful food and good value for money. The manager Joe and waitress Chloe checked in with us regularly to makesure everything was okay even with some difficult customers in house. Ultimately will be returning again and would recommend"

"Family been going to the penguin fish chips for years. Something awful has happened after new owners took over. The fish is sold as Cod but I can safely say it is not! Probably Pollock or worse. Fish was grey and not white as Cod should be. Tasted awful the batter had a burned overused oil taste. So disappointing after years of good quality cooking and the use of fresh cod… cutting corners like this has cost them our service many more after reading latest reviews on their website"

"has something changed at the noodle inn? not the better, that's safe. how I made many paintings before I went to the noodle-inn on the london road in sheffield today 4 April 2015 for a meal with my wife and son. we have often been there and always had good service and eating. It wasn't like that today. we went in and ordered Chinese tee and a diet coke. the diet coke came within 5 minutes, the tee has not made a look after 25 to 30 minutes and they had to be reminded that it had been ordered and not delivered! not good customer service. next, the food came in three distances far from each other, not very good again, but they were a little busy (but I was there when I was...read more"

"I've been frequenting the Canal House for several years now, which started with my attending their Tuesday evening Trivia events. They also feature 50 cent wings on Tuesdays, and $2 Bud/Bud Light drafts as long as the Mets or Yankees are on TV. How can you lose??? Wings are great size, and complimented by zingy hot sauce that doesn't taste like it just came out of a jar. If you're still hungry, the nachos are a huge hit as well. Monster pile of fresh tortilla chips with a blend of cheese, meat as ordered, and guac/sour cream/peppers. It's enough for a group of four, in all honesty, and very reasonably priced. I've heard great things about the burgers and club sandwiches, but I've never tried one. I can say they look fantastic as they pass by being served to other patrons. Ashley is the best bartender you could ask for, very attentive and full of humor and good spirits. Get out and try the great food and spirits at The Canal House. It's tucked away off Main Street, so you can easily pass it by! I do see some very negative older reviews, but I believe they revamped the menu, made some kitchen personnel changes, and are really on the right track."
