"Had a 90th celebration meal at Indian Essence early this month. From the moment we entered having drinks and nibbles an hour earlier than usual possible on a very rainy Saturday afternoon, the excellence, professionalism and warmth of service was clear to see. As much as the excellent service, my Dad was treated like a King and the portion sizes matched the magnanimous nature of the staff. Rabbit was a surprising revelation as one starter, chicken cooked several ways different to many other Indian restaurants starter selections offered was very good. The choice of mains were varied and sauces they were cooked in a sign of a top notch restaurant at the top of their game. By the time we reached desserts (washed down by more than one bottle of Chablis), the restaurant was filling up fast and buzzing for a normal October evening. After a pandemic and associated lack of celebrations for all, this was a choice I was more than happy to have made for such a special occasion. We will definitely be back and would recommend it to others for anything from normal meals to large celebrations. 5 star occasion...well deserved."

"I was very disappointed with my meal. The Veg Sharing Platter, which the manager recommended, was not impressive. The lamb and seekh kebab were served cold, and the other items were merely lukewarm. Overall, it wasn't great. The service, however, was exceptional; our waiter was fantastic. Unfortunately, I won't be returning, as this place seems to be overrated. Additionally, we were charged for mogo chips that were never delivered, and now we have to wait for a refund."

"Visited here during a recent holiday in London with my husband and children as we wanted to eat somewhere that wasn't a full restaurant. The lamb biryani has to be the best biryani I have ever eaten, so much so that we popped back in before our journey home two days later to pick up another one to have on the train! "Later than we'd like to book, never having been there before, we simply went by the reviews and booked for a 50th wedding celebration. We'll, the reviews don't do it justice. From the welcome of Ali, through the drinks, menu orders, the recommendations from Ali, all handled with graciousness, friendliness and humour. We mostly went with Ali's recommendations and they were great. Food was awesome, all of it. Even our screw up of us mixing up our choices ourselves was sorted quickly and efficiently, even though it was OUR fault. Special occasion was acknowledged with a lovely touch or two. Just a lovely evening, lovely place, great staff, from Ali and Chloe and everyone else who served us and made us feel welcome. Everything a restaurant should be, but rarely is. Deserves 10 out of 5 stars. We'll be back, and we'll be spreading the word, though maybe not too widely... don't want to lose the opportunity to eat there again! Outstanding!"

"White tablecloth, scrape the crumbs off the table kind of place, but not stuffy. You can still dress casually. Our waitress provided excellent service, and the food was very solid. We ordered a fish sampler for two (which was an appetizer platter), palak chat, dal makhani, and naan. It was a perfect amount of food for two. The tandoori salmon that was part of the platter was surprisingly delicious."

Not allowed to drink water without alcohol and said there was no room for them. I've never felt so uncomfortable in a pub, they were so terrible. "Me and my partner came here for our anniversary as we were not able to celebrate during lockdown. From the food, to the service and ambience, our anniversary was spectacular. The staff are warm, kind and friendly, and are always on hand to top up your drinks, help you with the dinner menu and have a general chit chat. We were made to feel really welcome and they were happy to answer any questions that we had. The food was incredible. I came here when they first opened and I am pleased to say that the food was even better than I had remembered. There are excellent choices for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I had a Samosa Chaat, followed by Paneer which was incredible and my partner had chicken tikka, followed by lamb. You also get poppadoms and chutneys before you start your meal. The tomato chutney is insanely good! All in all a truly magical date night."

"eating is good, but they can't make decent leti. the service was inconsistent. the table was not cleaned after the net and before dessert. Saturday night was empty. in the upper floor was a party and very loud blowing with their own music. it is not a private room; it is open and clearly visible from below, so not ideal for diners who want to chat. the management has changed hands again last year. iron out these knicks and it would be a great place."

"I've driven/walked past this restaurant many times and one day upon googling I was suprised to learn it was one of the best restaurants in Cambridge. So I had to make a visit. Indeed this is the best Indian restaurant that I've personally visited in Cambridge (so far). I went for the Nalli Ka Gosht and Butter Naan. The meal was an absolute delight with the tenderness and flavour of the Lamb complimenting the sauces beautifully. I will certainly have to come back and try the fish menu. Thanks for making my visit a great experience!"

"I dined here today with my father on March 26, 2023. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience! We have been coming here for 15 years, but we have not visited in a few years. In the past, they used to offer great food, variety, and value with their lunch buffet. However, today my father had the vegetarian buffet and I ordered lamb samosas, chicken coconut curry, and rice. Sadly, all three of my dishes were bland, uninspired, and lacked flavor. My father felt the same way about his meal. Even the poppadoms were stale. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. I suggest avoiding this restaurant at all costs."
