"A gift for my 60th birthday. Was so excited as I thought it was in the big west end store, but no, it was in an old bank building, soulless in the city. Emails said to upload photo so they can greet you personally on arrival. Did as instructed but had to hover and wave the maitre’d on arrival. Wasn’t overly busy and a nice young lady seated us. All tables are small (for2only) and in a bright central space, surrounded by jewellery shops, and of course Fortnum &Mason tea and gift shop. It wasn’t cozy and welcoming, more like sitting in an airport departure lounge. 2 afternoon tea towers delivered, with tea, coffee and champagne. The table isn’t large enough for 2 towers, 2 cups, teapot, champagne and water glasses. It’s awkward. AND THE TABLE WOBBLED. Hubby had to keep his foot firmly on the base of central pedestal to reduce the wobble. What should’ve been relaxed, cozy, maybe even romantic was more like a supermarket cafe experience. So disappointing. Maybe go to the Swan in Southwold, they know how to do afternoon tea, they offer a huge offering of savory, Inc. mini fish and chips, then an enormous cake/dessert selection Fortnums afternoon tea £48p/p Swan Southwold afternoon tea £42 Inc champagne. I know where I will go next time. It won’t be F&M"
