"Love eating here. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. I am disabled and I find a lot of restaurant seating is very uncomfortable however the seating here is comfortable which makes for a better dining experience. The food is always lovely with very interesting menu choices ; it’s hard to chose what to have sometimes ! I particularly liked the cavolo nero starter and my husband highly recommends the brioche bread and butter pudding. Always excellent every time"

""Charming venue in a lovely village in Northamptonshire, right on the edge of Rutland. The term 'Sondes' refers to an instrument that automatically sends data from hard-to-reach places such as underground or underwater—I had to look that up! The pub is dog-friendly in the bar area, which is a great touch. The carvery is absolutely delightful, with everything made from scratch. It's truly one of the best I've ever had. They also offer fantastic afternoon teas, delicious starters, and incredible desserts. It's such a beautiful spot to enjoy delicious food. Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. It was disappointing—staff seemed inattentive and not particularly engaged. However, the place was quite crowded, and they did a commendable job of keeping everyone happy, so credit goes to the staff. It seems there could be improvements in management or training, but I mention this kindly. Parking is available at the rear of the venue; just look for the entrance on the left before the pub as you head downhill. There is disabled parking at the back too, though there is a slope to consider. The restrooms are clean. "Posting on behalf of Wife. Humiliated in front of other diners purely for coming in with a double pram. One female member of staff pointed at newborns babies saying they can’t accommodate that ‘thing’. It’s small enough to fit through a single door so doesn’t take up much more space than a single pram! Even offered to put pram away and place chairs at the table to create more space which received huffs from staff around the inconvenience of having two sleeping babies in their chairs! Made to feel unwelcome and anxious for the duration of lunch so left swiftly within an hour. Fortunately other diners were lovely but staff are in serious need of training on how to treat customers. Numerous new mothers struggle with anxiety going out with babies and that kind of treatment of an individual struggling could have a serious impact on their mental health. Disgusting behaviour."

"The chef is brilliant here. My son has a restricted diet and they bent over backwards to accommodate us. I had the tempura squid which was melt in the mouth, everyone knows how difficult squid is to cook and this was top notch. The main course was a tuna steak salad, nicely cooked with an oriental twist to the salad. My companions were equally impressed they had the mussels which were so fresh they still smelled of the sea, and the pan fried sea bass I am told was absolutely delicious. I didn’t take pictures I was too busy enjoying! Check it out!"

"We visited on a Sunday lunchtime in early August to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We had booked and were offered a table inside the restaurant (pub? which was all but empty while it was a nice day outside. We asked if we could be seated outside to be able to enjoy the weather and to watch the world go by. We were told very rudely If there 's a table out there then you can eat out there, but you can 't run a tab and you have to order at the bar . We did as we were told, trying to make light of the rudeness. To be fair, it was only one of the staff who had this unfortunate attitude. We ordered drinks at the bar and then our food There 's a 30 minute wait the rude server told us. Dressed Crab, Mussels, and a fish and chips. Turned out there were no mussels left, so we ordered another fish and chips. The food, when it arrive (not as long as 30 minutes was ok, but only ok. My mother 's fish and chips was overdone and dry. Mine was less well cooked, but still rather bland and fish was dry. The whole experience was rather disappointing. We cut our losses and left to eat an ice cream elsewhere. It would hurt any of the staff to crack a smile and perhaps a lesson in manners and customer service wouldn 't go amiss."

"Where do I begin? First of all, there was no record of my reservation, but thankfully, there was a table available. We waited for the menu to arrive, but when it did, we were informed that there were no starters available during the week. The menu itself offered very limited choices, so we opted for the carvery. Unfortunately, all the vegetables were dried out and hard, indicating they hadn't been refreshed; I really didn't feel like eating them. If it hadn't been for my friend's birthday, I would have walked out. The meat was sliced so thin that you could see through it. I did voice my concerns but was merely told that if I came back again, they would ensure it didn't happen next time. I definitely won't be returning! On a side note, the gentleman who served the meat was quite grumpy and unhelpful."

"Vegan food wasn’t without milk so couldn’t have the vegan meal If it is advertised as vegan, it should be vegan not then altered so that two components don’t go together. Sat totally separated from everyone else, waiter refused to move us despite there being lots of room. We were only a table of 2 and sat in our own, cut off section. Our friends invited us to join their long table, this was refused. No vegan puddings. One waiter was very helpful with my dietary requirements. Food arrived but chips were swiftly removed as apparently they weren’t for me and new ones arrived some time later. Overall, a really disappointing meal."

"What a gem, we ordered from the Uber eats app for home delivery, and we went for the meat feast and pepperoni pizzas which were absolutely delicious, plenty of toppings and even better it was buy one get one free so for a family of 4 it cost £26 for four pizzas. We ordered some sides as we didn't realise how big the pizzas were , we didn't really need the sides but the chips and onion rings were both tasty and good sized portions. Will definitely order again from the wagon at hale and will definitely pay them a visit. Thank you Food: 5 Service: 5"

"Friendly pub with a good menu. We both enjoyed our lunches though I have to say the pie was great, better than the fish and chips (the batter was not the greatest very yellow and not as crisp and bubbly as some but the fish was good). Portion size is very generous. Lunch time deals are good. Would def recommend and would go back. Bill was around £35 for two courses and a drink can't argue. Didn't even need a dinner that night monster sized sticky toffee pudding! Quite a few people in on lunch time (it was valentines though) which is great to see."

"Superb food and excellent service spoilt only by the shouting and swearing from customers in the bar a few feet away. I was embarrassed for my wife who had to be constantly bombarded by a string of f-words throughout the meal. I realise that this is probably beyond your control but the close proximity of the bar to the restaurant with no intervening doorway suggests that this is probably a regular occurrence and not something I could recommend to friends. The entire meal was perfect - the gammon and pork are always juicy with no fat at all, the cauliflower cheese is fantastic, and the service is instant when we sit down. The Wingfield Arms is also a great place to hang out with friends. I would give it a 10 out of 10 rating."

"After waiting 20 minutes to be seated at our table in the restaurant my husband went to the bar to ask if we could be shown to our table. Ten minutes later the restaurant manager seated us and explained that they had some big parties in and one of their chefs had called in sick so service was 'dragging a bit '. We chose our food from the menu and waited for a waitress to come and take our order, which didn 't happen for another half an hour. Just as we were considering leaving, the waitress came and took our order finally, an hour after our booking time. Our first course arrived around 20 mins later (nearly half past nine) and the soup was very nice. When we asked if it came with bread, we were told no as it had croutons in it. I asked if we could have some bread anyway and the waitress reluctantly got us some. However, eating a first course at 9.30pm just seemed too late so by the time our main course came out at 9.50pm we just wanted to quickly eat it and get home as it was late and we had babysitters to get back for. We therefore asked for the bill as soon as the main course was finished and left. I understand some nights are busy and it cannot be helped if the chef is unwell but what I do object to is the attitude of staff, who really didn 't seem too bothered about serving us or making the experience a positive one. If somebody had told us on arrival that there would probably be an hour 's wait to order our food, we would have understood and we would have had the choice to wait or go elsewhere but being told that service was slightly 'dragging ' was nowhere near the truth. It was very delayed indeed. A simple gesture such as a complimentary drink and some snacks to keep customers happy while they were kept waiting would have been all that was needed. Nothing was taken off of our bill as a good will gesture for all the time wasted and there was no apology when we paid. All in all it left a bad taste in our mouths and we will not be returning."

"Disappointing experience! Invited friends there who had not been before wanted them to like it, BUT ... On the menu was Cromer Crab on main menu at £13.95, but a special on the night at much less. Also chilli crab cakes as a special . The two ladies ordered the dressed crab salad. When servered, the crab meat was BLACK, smelled decidedly off and tasted foul! The new potatoes were cold. No self respecting chef would have served the dish in this condition! The waitress kindly offered to exchange the two crab dishes for some other dish, thereby delaying the whole meal for the four of us. We were told the cost of the two crab salads would be taken off our bill really! Admittedly, the replacement steak was good but my wife 's replacement fish and chips was poor. Again, the fish was not fresh and was undercooked no doubt in haste! The chips were cold and tasted stale (as did mine with the Bull burger)! Our bill was approx £100 a significant amount for a disappointing eating experience. On the positive side, the place itself is lovely and the staff very helpful with good service. We suspect that the crab, and fish, had been in stock for some while and was being off loaded as specials , the chilli in the crab cake there to mask the off taste. This is dangerous practice with crab in particular. The problem is probably in the kitchen and needs addressing urgently."

"Rang and made a booking for a Sunday evening meal. Was not informed that it was only Roast Dinners being served and if I'd have known I wouldn't have made a reservation. And what a fortunate omission this was. OMG what an absolutely stunning Roast Beef dinner I had. I mean, my Mrs can deliver a Sunday roast but yours just knocked the spots off hers. The slabs of beef that was served, hell, I have had smaller pieces when asking for steak. Cooked to perfection and the taste of the spuds. I thought I'd gone to heaven. We're here on holiday for the week and I'm coming back. Some cracking real ales to. Nom nom nom nom......"

"We bought a voucher for afternoon tea for £15 for the Ropeworks&kitchen through Living social but trying to get through to book is impossible we rang about 20 times and sent emails but never a reply.in the end we phoned the hotel it is part of and booked that way but the receptionist gave us another email address to confirm we emailed again and still no reply.When we got to the restaurant it took ages for anyone to come to us ut after that we were seated and within 15 minutes a lovely afternoon tea was served many sandwiches and many small cakes.We will come back in the future."

"Not the best experience. Joined for lunch and what we wanted to order was unavailable. We order a chicken toasted sandwich and ham, egg and chips. It took about 45 mins to an hour to come out. The sandwich come out first and it looked as if it had been thrown together and didn't look appetising. Had to wait another 10 minutes for the ham egg and chips to come. I still hadn't eaten the toasted hot sandwich as I wasn't given any cutlery or sauces (it was meant to come with mayo in the sandwich but it didn't and was dry I had to call another waitress over to ask for them and the other dish to come out. 5 minutes later the cutlery and sauces came, and so did the ham egg and chipa and the salt was in packets (ok fine! but then they were all empty (people had used them and put the empty pockets back in the tray . Couldn't be bothered to ask for more again. Ketchup was in a heinz bottle and as well as hellmans mayo... the ketchup defo wasn't heinz as it was watery and vinegary. I don't mind cheaper ketchup but it was more the principle of stating it was the premium stuff when it wasn't- this wouldn't be any good for people with potential allergies. Not sure if the mayo was actually hellmans (again more of allergy purposes . The waitress didnt ask if we had any allergies which i believe is now a legal requirement. A lot of other people also weren't getting the food they were wanting as it wasn't available and the waitresses didn't know what table was what and asking people what they had ordered. I still paid for the meals as I can see they are trying to run it as best as possible and I mentioned at the till this wasn't a good experience but before I return this does need to be rectified."
