"Setting off from Central London to the outer wilderness of High Barnet was a shock to the system as the temperature seemed to drop by ten degrees, however, not even the cold could deter me from reaching my next destination on the quest to visit every Pizza Express in London...as I ventured far north. Welcome to the Barnet branch! This was a wonderful evening with close friends and one of my most enjoyable trips so far.... Quality of food: 18/20 The dough balls were deliciously warm and the garlic butter helped them to melt in the mouth. My Pollo Pesto with no mushrooms was delectable; it was lovely to have some variety in the texture of the pasta. Finally, the generous helping of chocolate brownie Dolcetti added the perfect finish with a heart-warming cup of tea! Atmosphere: 16/20 The high ceilings (although rather plain) gave the restaurant a fine acoustic and I found the interesting art work absorbing, including that of the great Elvis Presley. The wine bottle display shelf was impressive. This restaurant will shortly be undergoing refurbishment work but will only be closed for a brief period. Staff friendliness and efficiency: 19/20 I was impressed with how welcoming the staff were from the outset, including allowing me to lay out seven Cadbury Cream Eggs for my friends before they arrived. I was asked whether I would like a drink whilst waiting for the other guests and our waitress made us feel very welcome for the entire duration. Cleanliness: 17/20 The restaurant was clean and it was welcoming to find our table set up and ready to go with laid out menus before the booking time. The refurbishment will no-doubt help the development of the facilities and restaurant ambience. Overall enjoyment: 18/20 What can be better than an evening out with great friends and lots of laughter? Thank you Pizza Express, Barnet, for being host to a memorable evening. Final score: 88/100 (A) Excellent Next stop: Battersea branch."

"Had a meal at this restaurant yesterday after a show at the theatre. Not been to this PE for about a year but the restaurant at St Mary’s Butts closed a few years back (which was always the better of the two and our personal favourite it now leaves only one option. It seems to have fallen a little further downhill. Waiter was fine but generally the staff seemed to lack enthusiasm generally (maybe the post christmas feeling but I don’t expect to experience it when dining out I could smell something unpleasant and pungent when we were seated in a booth and it took me a short while to figure out it was actually the table that smelled awful. Like it had been wiped down with a dirty cloth or unpleasant table spray. I wiped the whole table over with a anti bac wipe and I couldn’t smell the smell again. So, but if a weird start. The kids food was fine. They both had a piccolo menu starter and pizza. We ordered olives with the starters too which we had to chase up after all our starters had been eaten. My Arancini starter was undercooked … and luke warm. My partners squid was chewy. We all had pizza for main and while it was cooked fine, tasted ok they did arrive together, they seemed a lot smaller than they used to be for a romana pizza from the main menu and for the price, no flair, no pizza board, just served on a plate (which is find if it’s a £10 Pizza Hut this was £15! . We were asked if we wanted anything else when the pizza’s were delivered and said no thanks: then we decided we did want some extra cheese and some black pepper so I asked one of the staff, a lady this time, possibly a manager, she brought them and left them on the table.. other restaurants nearby of similar cuisine will go to the effort of actually serving it to you. But not here. So we ate our meal. Then ordered pudding. All of which came at different times so no one ate their pudding together. The sticky toffee pudding was again, luke warm. The new menu offering for kids of snowball dough balls came served on top of a napkin on the plate so when my son cut the dough ball in half, the napkin stuck to the underside of the dough ball. It seemed a bit weird to serve hot sticky food on a napkin. All in all there are now much nicer places in the vicinity to eat, which have a bit more about them and are worth the price of the food being served… lacklustre is all I can describe this place as now so we won’t be coming back here."

"Not sure why I have continued to return to pizza express at for Kinnaird, I suppose the main reason would be that my 21 month old generally really enjoys the food and I have to say the kids menu is better than I have seen in most restaurants however I always come away feeling dissatisfied about other things. A couple of months ago I meant to write a review regarding the staff. I took my daughter in for lunch, it was around 12ish on a week day so quiet. At one point I noticed every member of staff on their phone and not particularly out of sight of customers. I also watched the chef who is in full view of restaurant, take out his phone in the middle of making a pizza (with his bare hands), text on his phone then put it back into his pocket. This is obviously very unhygienic given we all know how dirty our phones get. Anyway another month went by and convenience and a hungry toddler brought me back in. This time I found a piece of plastic in my pasta looked like the piece of plastic you break off a pasta sauce tub. I was quite annoyed by this given we were the only people in the restaurant so I’m putting this down to sheer negligence by the chef. I have to say that I agree with previous comments about the standard of cleanliness but I can tell why as staff really don’t seem interested and can come across quite abrupt. Also the Bolognese has virtually no mince in it and far too much fennel!!"
