"I guess since the last few patrons dint have a good experience , I guess my review could be tainted but nevertheless I will try. So I and the wife were craving some dosa on a sunday so decided to try the place. Thankfully we dint have a broken chair and/ or hair in our masalas and dosas not that i wouldve looked. The food tasted awesome, the dosas were absolutely fresh and made crispy o. Request. The masala was good too. There was an endless supply of chutney and sambar which is typical in India but NOT in the Uk. Overall we had a wonderful experience with the food although the prices were just a little steep. I guess the reviews before mine have been taken seriously and the chef decided...read more"

"The food is good, when it is fresh. I go there for an occasional Dosa and Vada. On a number of occasions they have served stale chutneys and dosa filling. Yesterday, the dosa arrived within a minute of ordering and it was cold to touch. I asked them to replace it. The replacement was warm but not crisp. I ordered Vada for takeaway. Since they were busy and taking time to bring the check, I opened the package and decided to eat it. The chutneys were clearly a few days old. The excuse they gave was that they get packed in the morning (not). They then brought the fresh chutneys. I was not delighted paying £22. It’s a hit and miss. I would say insist on bringing fresh food if you find it stale or cold. There is no other accessible place for Dosa, so when I am craving it, I’m forced to go there and hope it will be fresh."

"I had read and heard good things about Mahda. I was not disappointed. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes, all of which sounded so tasty that it made the choice very difficult. I have never come across such a varied Indian menu, with both northern and southern dishes on offer. I chose a Keralan chicken stew with vegetables which was outstanding. And I'm 57 and have been to many, many Indian restaurants. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The whole experience was wonderful. Go!"

"We went for a family meal to celebrate a special event. We have eaten here several times before and were always impressed with the quality of the food. On this occasion we were eating late in the evening due to other commitments. Some of the food was disappointing. I ordered the lamb tikka biryani. When it arrived, it was clearly chicken not lamb! The rice was very dry and it came with a spicy sauce rather than a vegetable curry. I ate about a third of it. One of the other meals was not particularly inspiring and did not match the promised description. The service was very good, although we did feel the staff were waiting for us to finish as we were the last customers there. In all, we have been a little put off returning to what was one of our favourite places to eat and I am not sure we could recommend it to others despite having done so in the past."

"Great menu! Very refreshing and different to the usual North Indian cuisine majority of the British Indian restaurants offer. Definitely try their Indian Chinese starters like chilli chicken, salt pepper prawns, veg manchurian and their cocktails! Natak’s menu beats Dishoom for us ; They have a new and excited team of waiters waitresses who take your eating plates away in a rush so a bit of service awareness missing but otherwise they’re all friendly prompt. Cannot wait to return to try their diverse brunch menu which has dosas etc."

"As someone who has been a cook for many years and a lover of Indian cuisine, I recently visited this restaurant for the first time on my birthday. I must say that I was extremely impressed and even a bit frustrated that I only have one stomach, as the food was truly magical and delicious. The dishes prepared by the chefs were a delight to the taste buds and I was completely enamored with the flavors. Additionally, the restaurant itself was beautifully decorated, clean, and pleasant. The staff were also professional and attentive. I will definitely be returning to this wonderful Indian restaurant again. Thank you."

"This is a wonderful, warm friendly place serving excellent delicately flavoured regional Indian food. Great service from really helpful staff. All sensibly priced. An all round great experience and highly recommended if you want well cooked and interesting Indian food. If only Everton had won after we had eaten there it would have been the perfect night out but the restaurant was not to blame....."

"To my surprise, many restaurants are closed on Sunday evening in London. Every time I looked up a vegan restaurant on Happy Cow, it turned out it was closed. Since it was late and I was hungry, I had no other option than to select a vegetarian restaurant close by. 1947 Restaurant and Bar is both an Indian and Italian restaurant. The entire menu is vegetarian, however only around 20% is vegan. Many more meals can be made vegan, but so many of them had cheese listed as an ingredient that I didn 't want to run the risk. What if there 's an error in communication between the waitress and the kitchen? Or what if the chef accidentally adds cheese out of habit? I had lots of time to make up my mind, because even though the restaurant was very quiet it took a long time until the waitress came to take my order. I selected vegan biryani because I like biryani and because I 've tried it at so many restaurants that it 's easy to compare. It took a long time for the biryani to be prepared, but then it was served beautifully and smelled divine (as it should be). However, compared to other restaurants it 's a rather simple biryani. It has only one kind of rice (it is often served with both white and yellow rice) and only a few vegetables. There was no tofu, mushroom, potato, no nuts or any protein source. Also, the yoghurt was missing (which is used to extinguish the fire caused by the spices). The portion was generous and the taste was good. Although it was mentioned on the menu, 1947 Restaurant and Bar adds a 12.5% service tax. Why don 't restaurants just increase all prices on the menu instead of giving the customers a nasty surprise at the end?"

"I enjoyed the Mother's Day menu at this restaurant. The ambience was lovely, and I appreciated the decor and attention to detail while sitting upstairs with my mom."

"Had really high expectations but was quite disappointed by the quality and portion of food. The ambience no doubt is excellent and the staff are nice to an extent but the food is not worth at all. It is not even close to authentic Indian food and the quantity is abysmal. We ordered three dishes and all of them were totally bland and full of oil and food colourings. What really ticked me off was the mandatory service charge with no mention whatsover of it's discretionary nature (not even in the menu or the receipt). When I asked it to be removed, the staff got rude and only took it off after I had to remind him that it's not legal to impose service charge. For all Indian customers atleast: go there for the less chaotic and peaceful environment in Central London but try the food at your own risk."

"I have to admit that I was a bit stupid at first sight! the restaurant inspires not the trust from outside and is quite small in the inner but this humble look is the absolute gastronomic genie at the work in the kitchen! the starters were so delicious. the three of the use we had lamm samosas, wobble bhajis, lamb chops lamb something! the seasoned on all dressed were perfect, really rich and tasteful with the right amount of heat that gave them a brand without being too painful as they do with the lamb especially and still preserve the taste of the actual flesh, is nothing short of culinary source! when the net arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find the garlic naan with tiny ribbons of fresh garlic, and it was thin with a flat texture, instead of thick and teig the nets were equally fantastic and tasteful; I had chicken masala and pilau reis and I can honestly say I never have a better curry in my life! next time I am in london, I will visit 100% again!"

"Was a return visit for us and was just as good as we remembered. Service was friendly and efficient, the staff took time to assist with menu selection. Food was lovely, good portion size and as described on menu. Overall a great experience, the food here is authentically Indian, spiced without being overly hot. Highly recommended."

"I have to start by saying how the staff are always smiling. They 're friendly and have some great recommendations. Moving onto the food, we ordered the chaat platter, chilli paneer and prawns from the tandoor clay oven. I was disappointed by the paani Puri it lacked the tang and explosion of taste you expect, instead it had a very bland and lacked flavour. However the rest of the items on the platter were absolutely fabulous!! Fresh, crunchy, tangy, tasty, flavourful. Everything you expect from a chaat platter. I could have ordered another 2 (without the paani Puri) The chilli paneer was one of the best I 've had! The tandoor clay oven prawns were perfectly cooked and had the right amount of 'tandoor ' taste however the marinate flavour was lacking. Mains veg Kolhapuri.... Oh my gosh!!!! No words can describe how amazing this was and how is it was possible to make veg taste like it did!!! It was absolutely divine!!! We ate it with garlic naan, that too was fab.. it was rolled to the right thinness and had the absolute perfect amount of garlic and butter!! An absolute treat. I should mention as we ate others sat around us on other tables just couldn 't stop complementing the foods they had ordered! So I 'm definitely going back to taste the other items! Desserts gulab jamun and pistachio kulfi ... At first glance the gulab jaman looked lost in the bowl it was presented in, the syrup was way too thin and the 2 balls were too small. However, the taste.... I don 't think I 've had better. Some improvement required in the presentation and with the syrup .. but the taste 5 5 .. amazing! The pistachio kulfi I expect frozen... But ... We couldn 't dig in... Waited almost 25 30mins for it to soften ... Once it did once again the taste was everything you expect... Another 5 5. However does require some thinking to ensure the customer doesn 't leave with a brain freeze instead of the flavoursome taste. We enjoyed multiple drinks including mango lassi, lemonade and mint tea all of which were fab.. even the mango lassi was the perfect consistency however it comes with ice which when melted affects the taste of the lassi (server should ask if the customer would like or not I wasn 't given an option) I 'm going back!! And I definitely recommend!!"

"I will not give you a 5-star rating because there is opportunity for improvement. However, it won 't be fair to give you anything less than a 3-star rating. Overall, average. What is good so far is 1. The food was really good and fresh. 2. Service was quick. What needs improvement 1. The atmosphere is very dull, the lighting is bad. Improve the decor. 2. Improvement on cleaning is required. That is the general cleaning of the dining area. 3. Please allow card payments. This is the 21st century. People will not withdraw money just to dine in your restaurant. The notice cash payment only is automatically turning down customers."

"The whole experience was shambles from start to finish. We had booked online via The Fork, which was totally ignored. Our order was taken very casually no pen paper or written which resulted to our order not being processed at all. We waited 50 mins and when asked the waiter the answer repeatedly was Food coming eventually they had realised they had got their knickers twisted but even then wouldn't admit their fault. Finally we was served our food but not what we had ordered, obviously because they had forgot what we had ordered lol. Oh BTW we was also overcharged for something we hadn't had, hence please always check the bill. We would definitely not visit again, not once any member of the staff apologised, may be because of the location they get so many tourist so they are not bothered."

"Good food, authentic taste, fantastic place to eat out with family and friends. I had a great experience however what did bother me though was the manager at woodlands on Sunday 17th. He was so rude to the girl serving us and to this lady who was walking aided by her assistant and a stick. She was trying to go to the restroom and cause woodlands Marylebone doesn't have a wheelchair access toilet she had to climb a few stairs! With much difficulty due to her condition she was trying to do this and her assistant and grandchild were helping. This manager in a slightly loud stern tone asked them to close the toilet door, asked her assistant grandchild to leave the area. I was appalled at...read more"

"OMG! Finally an Indian restaurant in London that I can whole heartedly recommend. Until now whenever a non-Indian friend in London has asked me where they can get good Indian food in central London, I answer some version of an Indian home Chettinad as their name suggests, focuses on the food from the Chettinad region of Southern India. It's almost 85% there in authenticity. Spices have been subdued from this fiery cuisine, but the complexity of flavours is still present The staff is very comfortable with their menu and love explaining the subtle differences to non-Indian visitors. From what I could hear at our neighbouring tables, they were quite accurate too They are...read more"

"When a restaurant is full of so-called locals, you know it must be pretty good. In Piccadilly, just off Haymarket, lives a small, simply decorated Dosa House- Woodlands. With a rich heritage in India dating back to the 1930's, Woodlands first opened in Maryleborne in the 80's and have expanded to Piccadilly and Hampstead since. Recommended by a food-loving friend for the dosas, I was keen to give it a try although if I'd walked past it on Panton St I might not have been tempted in. A slightly dated, shabby exterior leads to a simple wooden dining room with little atmosphere and no music. It was about half-full, however, of what I took to be people originally from South India, dressed...read more"
