A delightful Japanese dessert featuring creamy ice cream wrapped in a soft, chewy mochi rice cake.

"When the sashimi course came out, a different staff member mentioned “beef croquet” while describing the dishes. This raised a red flag, so I asked another staff member about it. She reassured me that it was potato and leek croquet and definitely contained no beef, apologizing for the confusion. I felt a bit more at ease when I cut it open, as it looked like a typical croquet. However, when I started eating it, the flavor reminded me of beef, and it made me feel ill—I almost had to spit it out. My partner also tried the same dish but didn’t recall tasting any beef. Since I was cautious about beef, I was more sensitive to the taste. It's possible they fried it in the same oil; I'm not sure. We each ordered a robata and a sushi omakase, with five courses each, but many of the courses were the same, which was a bit disappointing. Because of the croquet incident and the similarities in the courses, I would say this event turned out to be a mixed experience. The food was mostly good, though some dishes were not quite up to par. While the pricing felt slightly on the high side, it is London, so I suppose that's to be expected. I was also disappointed that the staff didn’t check in on how we were enjoying the courses when taking dishes away, especially in a restaurant of this caliber. On a positive note, the cake was delicious, the sashimi was excellent, and the grilled items were good too. I did find it a bit odd that some of the items on the plate were just sauces; I wouldn't expect to drink sauce like a soup. As for the deep-fried tomato, I would have preferred chicken instead, but that’s a minor detail. I think it would be helpful for the restaurant to provide a menu card so that customers can enjoy their omakase experience, particularly if they have any allergies."

"This was my first visit to Flesh and Buns and I would definitely be bringing other people here. The service is top notch. They were so accommodating when we were going to be late whereas other places might get funny about it. The food was amazing. It was so quick to the table and it tasted absolutely delicious. The only negative when it comes to the food I could say is that the beef that my friend got was a tad overcooked and a little tough but the Japanese chicken that I had was delicious. The portion sizes are very good as well. Cocktails are a little expensive but that is London pricing for you. They were really nice. Deadly because you can drink them like water. Overall, one of the best restaurants that I have been to and I will definitely be coming again."

"Shimogano opened in 2013 in a parade of shops on Camden Parkway. It is named after an ancient Kyoto Shinto shrine that is a UNESCO world heritage site. The restaurant has a small dining area and bar at ground level, the main dining room being in the basement. The décor is fairly basic, and the restaurant serves a wide variety of Japanese cuisine styles, from sushi to tempura to noodles and beyond. This slightly scattergun approach is normal in London but unusual in Japan, where most restaurants specialise, sometimes to an extreme degree e.g. some restaurants serve only eel, or only tonkatsu. It must be difficult for any restaurant to really master such a wide menu. See more at:...read more"

"My family of five dined at Kouzu while on vacation. Each of us felt a very strange vibe at Kouzu. We were seated in a corner of the first level by a woman who then took our drink orders. There was only one or two other tables filled. My son ordered a soda—a coke. She said they didn’t serve any soda in the restaurant. Really? So he instead ordered a water. She proceeded to bring a large bottle of water that she opened in front of us. I asked what it was—that he wanted just a tap water in place of the soda they didn’t carry. The server then left the table. Another gentlemen came around and sort of took over. I asked him why they didn’t carry any other drinks except water—he said oh we have lemonade coke, Diet Coke etc. The next strange thing was the menu. They gave us ample time with the menu and when they came to take our order I asked what a certain thing was—he said oh that’s a priz five menu that’s different! This menu has never been passed out to us. This was a sushi restaurant and what is nice—and needed quite honestly—is a rundown of each item as it’s placed on the table, as the majority of us ordered a la carte. This didn’t happen. I will say the food itself was delicious, however, the strange vibe we got coupled with the sizable price tag would deter me from patronizing this restaurant again if given the chance."

"Michiko Sushino in Northwest London offers top-notch sushi that has been on my list of places to eat for a long time, and I finally got to visit last week. The menu is concise, making it easy to choose. We started with prawn gyozas, which were a delightful melt-in-your-mouth experience. The food was exceptional; the large salmon set included a wonderful mix of uramaki, nigiri, and sashimi. My favorite dish was the hanabi prawn tempura sushi, and I also thoroughly enjoyed the scallop sushi. Another intriguing option was the egg omelette sushi, which was quite good. The donburi was also excellent, though I found it a bit crispy in parts. To kick off our meal, I had an Aki gin tonic made with Roku gin and lemongrass infusion, which I adored, and we wrapped up with some sake. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience, and I highly recommend Michiko Sushino to everyone. If you haven't been yet, or even if you're returning, it's definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the staff is attentive and friendly. I had a fantastic time!"

"We had an incredible dining experience at this restaurant. We were able to watch the chef prepare sushi right behind us. The prices were very reasonable and we appreciated the fact that they showcase art on the walls that is available for purchase from local artists. We highly recommend supporting this local business instead of the chain restaurants on the main street. This place is fantastic!"

"I visited the Moseley restaurant for the first time today and I absolutely loved it! The waitress was friendly and extremely helpful. The service was great, and the food was prepared in a timely manner. The meal was amazing—very flavorful and delicious. The restaurant itself was clean and well-presented. I highly recommend the boneless Korean bun. I will definitely be returning! Thank you!"

"I reserved the function room for a party of about 25 people. The space was perfect, beautifully arranged with its own private bar, and we were able to decorate and play our own music through the sound system. The staff were fantastic, the drink prices were very reasonable, and everyone had a fantastic time. However, there were a few issues that I want to mention for anyone else planning to book. With better communication before the event, I believe these could have been easily resolved. The venue was very helpful and responsive during the booking process, but after I confirmed my reservation, I had trouble getting responses to my emails or phone calls until the day of the event. This led to them not being able to coordinate dinner orders as I had requested. There were not enough menus for the whole party, so wait staff handed them out sporadically, leading to a very staggered food service. Some guests waited hours for their meals, which was embarrassing as the host. Additionally, the rounds of drinks that I had pre-ordered to be served as a surprise throughout the evening were announced near the beginning of the event due to an internal miscommunication. We also had to vacate the room for a downstairs booth at midnight instead of the requested 2am, which should have been clarified in advance. Despite these issues, it was still a great night with wonderful memories. I would consider booking again, but would recommend eating beforehand next time."

"What stood out was that it wasn't your typical Japanese fare; my partner ordered venison and carpaccio, both of which he thoroughly enjoyed. The desserts were perfectly portioned—not overwhelming at all. I could've easily drunk the soy sauce like juice! I also want to highlight the fantastic service we received. Alice was amazing. She was the only server that night, with just one cook in the kitchen, yet everything ran smoothly and she was so friendly. I didn’t even realize it was just the two of them! A lovely birthday card was left on the table for my fiancée, which she truly appreciated. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to go back!"

"I was really excited to try this place. It's one of only Japanese restaurants in the area so I thought it would be a nice evening out but it was disappointing. The rice was gluey, the yakitori was deep fried, the tempura was not freshly made. Bibimbap really needed seasoning and we could hear the microwave being used a lot. We hadn't eaten all day so we did eat most of our meal but we were so disappointed in the quality compared to the price. It's too bad because there aren't many other similar options around."

"We were not prepared for the flavour journey Kazoku we're taking us on. Beautiful, simply. Divine. Magical. A journey through taste that we haven't experienced before. The plum wine, the serving of the food in intervals, the clinical knowledge the staff had of the food. We would like to personally commend the chefs for allowing us to try their food. We will be back, we would book a hotel just to visit again. Nothing more needs to be said, visit and divulge into what can only be described as brilliant. Congratulations, phenomenal. Thank you."
"We ordered a variety of starters, a sushi and sashimi platter, along with some individual sushi hand rolls. Everything was incredibly fresh and tasty. The drink selection was sufficient to meet most preferences. The service was both friendly and efficient, striking a pleasing balance between formal and informal. Additionally, the prices are relatively reasonable for central dining, especially considering the quality offered. If you're in the area, I highly recommend this restaurant. **Service:** Dine-in **Meal type:** Dinner **Price per person:** £50–60 **Food:** 5 **Service:** 5 **Atmosphere:** 5 **Recommended dishes:** Rolls, Sushi Platter"
"Visited koi sushi last night, from the start we felt welcomed we was greeted by a lovely young lady I think she said her name was Donna. The restaurant was very clean and I must add the music was great too.. Last but not least the food was amazing we had a mixed sharing platter the Katsu prawns was amazing, for mains I had teriyaki Salmon and it was cooked to protection. My desert just finished my evening off Japanese pancake I’m craving another already!"

"We aren’t from London and found Uli while browsing for restaurants on google. We wanted Asian but couldn’t quite decide for a specific cuisine so the options on the menu were an absolutely perfect mix for us. We went for Vietnamese fresh rolls and sweet corn soup for starters (the soup was quite filling! and then the salmon fillet, Thai aubergines and tofu in black bean sauce for mains. It turned out to be way too much food but every bit of every dish was absolutely delicious. The staff was very kind and attentive, and we also managed to get a table booking on the day, just a couple hours before we wanted to eat dinner. Great experience and highly recommended!"

"Sakura was recommended to me by a New Yorker who works on the American airbase and who had previously been stationed in Japan. We went with very low expectations because we have been so disappointed with the standard of Japanese food in Cambridge and Mildenhall. Wisdom of trusting New Yorkers confirmed. Sakura is definitely a cut above, at least for Japanese food (didn't try any Chinese). There isn't anything fancy on the menu and nothing is spectacularly good but it is substantially better than the local average. I didn't think it was particularly expensive for sushi, and anyway am highly suspicious of raw fish on the cheap. Would definitely recommend the spare rib donburi. Sashimi and maki roll are good, salads are lovely. Only complaints titchy portions of ginger and soft shell crab tempura was somewhat overcooked. Lastly, it's spotlessly clean and the staff are nice. Will definitely go again."

"Went here with friends and enjoyed our dessert. We were served quickly and it was very tasty, but the music in there was a little loud which was a bit irritating. Then at the end Vikas asked if we would leave a review and use his name, which we said we would do but we didn't realise he expected us to do it straight away. We were waiting for the bill and he kept walking past us, so after 15mins we asked if we could pay as we were waiting to leave. He asked us if we had left a review yet, of which we were honest and said we hadn't but would later (I don't want to be sitting on my phone when I have company). It was quite uncomfortable that it seemed we were expected to leave a review in order to leave. That spoilt the experience for me and puts me off going back"

"Went to IKEDA with my girlfriend as she said it the best sushi she tried in London. I can definitely agree with her as the quality of service balanced with food quality. From first step you have a receptionist/manger (I guess, as all regulars were...greeting him) greets you and get you a place when you enter there, you feel welcomed. We set at the bar where sushi chefs were making food (can say it’s was quite impressive as you can see how they making all the pieces step by step) We ordered half bootle of sake, sashimi, octopus, and some more sharing stuff like like tempura veggies. For desert I can recommend you to try wasabi ice cream or mochi ice cream wow. If you remember when you tried sushi for first time with soya sauce and wasabi, and you fell in love with it they manage to reproduce this feeling in my mind. Food quality was gorgeous (not even scared to use this word here) combined with cold sake, it worth stars. The overall bill was about what is reasonable for the food quality and service provided."
