"Shimogano opened in 2013 in a parade of shops on Camden Parkway. It is named after an ancient Kyoto Shinto shrine that is a UNESCO world heritage site. The restaurant has a small dining area and bar at ground level, the main dining room being in the basement. The décor is fairly basic, and the restaurant serves a wide variety of Japanese cuisine styles, from sushi to tempura to noodles and beyond. This slightly scattergun approach is normal in London but unusual in Japan, where most restaurants specialise, sometimes to an extreme degree e.g. some restaurants serve only eel, or only tonkatsu. It must be difficult for any restaurant to really master such a wide menu. See more at:...read more"

Friendly staff and fantastic food. You can enjoy varieties of authentic Japanese food here. It reminded me of life in Japan for over 20 years.

Great Japanese food and an amazingly friendly staff. A bit pricey but they offer some nice lunch menu’s. The restaurant itself has not the best flair, but after 1-2 Asahi and a couple of Sake, you don’t notice this anymore

we ordered a lot of dressed sushi, bark sukiyaki, tempura, grilled salmon bell etc. and they are all delicious. the prices are quite high, but they gave us a lot of food, so it's pretty good value for money. this is one of the best Japanese restaurants in north london!

the food is very small portion with very high price and its not very good quality. The eel nigiri was nice but the tuna got this color looks like it's been tortured. The sukiyaki has two pieces of tofu, some cabbage and 4 mushrooms with eatable beef, it was salt enough for us to taste it the rest of the day. Overall not worthy to go a second time. The ppl there were very friendly tho

I had another wonderful dining experience at Shimogamo. Every dish, from the aubergine starter to the lemongrass sizzled pork, was expertly prepared. The yellowtail cheek and salmon belly were particularly outstanding, simply melting in your mouth. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed and quiet. I highly recommend Shimogamo - it's a must-try, and I will definitely be returning again!

The food at this restaurant was delicious and the service was good as well. We tried the Sukiyaki and it was excellent, though we wished there was more of it. We ended up ordering another beef dish and some sushi. We weren't sure if the portions were too small or if we were just used to larger portions. The dessert was amazing. Overall, it was a good experience. The seating was comfortable, though not exceptional.

Our group loved the food at Shimagamo. We had Tonkasu which was cooked well and tasted great. It was served with lovely salad and dressing, rice, miso soup and pickles. I would recommend this restuarant for a casual lunch. It was warm and cosy on a rainy day and the service was very welcoming. I have already booked a return lunch. I hear the sushi is also very good so I might try that next time. I'll work my way through the menus it is so tempting.
