"We chose to dine in, it had seating but it's predominantly a take-away service so there were three tables to choose from. The service was quick and polite, with food being freshly made. We arrived not long after Umami opened, so the staff serving made sure the table we at was wiped down and clean for us. The food was said to be out roughly 15 minutes from ordering but it came out quicker than that. My sister ordered teriyaki tofu bento with duck oishi steamed buns (eyes bigger than her belly! Whilst I had tempura aubergine with vegetable gyoza. My sister enjoyed the bento buns, flavouring was lovely, generous amount of everything! She almost fell in love with the buns after one bite and her inner gollum came out. The tempura was very hot, but light enough to not feel stuffed as was the gyoza, pleasant and definitely able to enjoy everything. "I was so excited to go there as the restaurant has excellent reviews. I really wanted to try their sushi even before the pandemic. Disappointing wasn’t sufficient. I don’t consider it’s Japanese restaurant because I don’t think if sushi is served the restaurant is Japanese. There is no Japanese person and no Japanese style service available. Don’t take me wrong, I’m not insisting without Japanese staff it can’t be Japanese restaurant. There is no properly cooked japanese food and all over food quality is very poor. First of all, I can tell with confidence all supposed to warm dishes are just microwaved. As soon as we ordered those dishes very familiar microwave sound started. supposed to be steamed chicken gyoza came floating in water. I can tell those are definitely frozen food from most probably certain Chinese cash and carry wholesale store. Spinach was incredibly tough. It may be good for you if you are on extremely high fibre diet but I felt I had become a cow. Sushi was another huge disappointment. Quality was poor although eatable. But I would rather prefer to eat that quality sushi at one of the famous chain restaurant’s branch in Victoria Street. Because it’d be more spacious and more importantly cleaner. But the worst part was when we ordered CURRY UDON! The waitress didn’t understand what we were asking because she pronounce it CA-RAY UDON and insisted she had asked what we water was noodle in soup. In my opinion even curry udon is noodle in curry soup. But by the time we had realised we made a big mistake and decided to leave as quick as we could, so didn’t argue. And when the bill came we just paid the amount. it stated that ‘no service charge is included’ and some Korean that neither of us didn’t understand. Since we left no tip the waitress suddenly became very rude. She even didn’t bother to say good-bye! I will never go there again and wouldn’t recommend anybody who would like to eat decent Japanese food."

"Friendly staff, a nice take on traditional Japanese fare. There’s no pressure to eat a full meal, even at lunch time (some students dropped by ate only dessert specials), a nice approach. The edamame beans are delicious, the pork donburi very filling! I suspect the miso soup is made to cater for vegans, it doesn’t have the fatty richness of genuine miso broth made from pork bones; the rice in our dishes was not sticky as it would be in Japan, which made eating it with chopsticks more difficult. Slightly disappointing as Chef appeared to be Japanese! The guys found the chicken teriyaki less filling than my donburi, the chicken udon noodles was enjoyed. The Takoyaki (octupus balls) were the star of the show, tasty representative of the real McCoy! Reasonably priced fast service. One to return to."

"Noodle Nation (formerly noodlebar) has a huge place in my teenage and early adult years. During school, college and uni I would frequently hang out here with friends and enjoy the huge portions and low prices, or grab a takeaway to eat at the bus station after work. I went there for a meal with a friend recently and was surprised by the lack of vegan options available, especially during Veganuary. There were only two or three mains options on the vast menu. A lot of the side dishes would be vegan but are cooked in the same oil as meat dishes so are non-vegan due to contamination, meaning there were no sides I could enjoy. I opted for the vegetable pad Thai and while the portion size is still massive, I found the noodles themselves to be very mushy. I also noticed that my Pepsi had a distinctly mouldy aftertaste which occurs when the lines on the soda siphon aren’t cleaned regularly. The serving staff were all excellent and lovely and I love the vibe and the nostalgia I get from Noodle Nation, but I thought it was a real let down in 2023 to have such limited vegan options available."

"Good food and great service. Had a table booked for midday with my son, we’re greeted promptly and shown to our table, couldn’t fault the service at all. Drinks were ordered and turned up quickly, we were slow in choosing our dishes due to the range of dishes available. "This restaurant in Colchester is definitely the best we have tried. We had an amazing meal there last night. This was our first visit since the refurbishment and we were impressed with the new dishes on the menu. The staff and atmosphere were fantastic. "Visited for lunch last week, and was again really impressed by the choice, food quality, and friendly welcome. Ordered pumpkin korokke and takoyaki to start, both very tasty and a good size portion. then sushi for me spicy salmon inside out rolls with wasabi tobiko on the outside, and some avocado maki. My companion had chicken yakisoba and a glass of wine. The menu is really extensive and everything is freshly made by the chefs behind the counter. Really impressed by the quality generously filled sushi that was nicely presented and the manager and team were friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!"

"Absolutely loved our meal at Ichibuns. The servers were all incredibly friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was such fun, and the menu was perfect. We loved the Dynamite Shrimp and the Crispy Rice starters, everything was small enough so that you could eat loads and still share a cheeseburger with your other half. The burger came out a bit well done, as the server had stated it would be prepared medium-rare, so we (nicely) sent it back and they swiftly brought out a perfectly-cooked replacement. The space is amazing and vibrant, loved it, can't wait to go back!"

"Remarkable to find this restaurant in the middle of London in the 21st Century. Traditional vegan Japanese foods prepared imaginatively, delicious and served with grace and dedication. Ecologically sourced ingredients and in each dish underlying ethical principals. There were many choices in the menu which was a bit overwhelming nevertheless there is plenty of variety and meals for different tastes. I had tempura as part of my fare, an array of flavourful cooked and fermented delicacies and exquisite sushi with a mouth watering creamy sesame dessert. This is healing food that can be savoured and not rushed."
