"Mother’s Day lunch and we were not told there was a set menu. So a fish restaurant only has a choice of roasts for main course, all served with cabbage, leek, roast potatoes, carrots and Yorkshire pudding. None of which,I think partnered well with cod or confit duck or salmon. So dry chicken or vegetarian roast anyone? I think everything was pre cooked and reheated (not very well). Service was fine and we were asked after eating if everything was OK and will admit said OK as my mother hates a ‘fuss’ and it was not worth upsetting her by complaining or sending dishes back. They mentioned how busy they were and I wonder if by a short term gain of overcharging for poor quality food on a special occasion they won’t loose custom in the long run as we certainly won’t return, it’s a shame as we are always looking for good local restaurants. Also the restaurant looks nothing like the photos on their website which has white tablecloths and comfy looking chairs, the reality was bare tables with plastic table mats that had the drinks menu printed on them and hard upright wooden chairs. "We booked early at 6:30pm mid week. We were greeted very pleasantly and shown upstairs to a table. The restaurant was already half full. The service, however was slow. The server omitted to to tell us about the special . The menu had a heavy bias towards fish which we expected but seemed rather pricey. When the server arrived , I asked about the special, which was sea bas on a bed of mashed potatoes, with a decoration of green bits for £24. Unfortunately the ceiling is low the floor is hard, so the result is excessive noise. There was a party of raucous young men and as the restaurant filled up, the noise got worse. At times I struggled to hear what my husband was saying across the table. The food was piping hot and mine was nicely presented. My husband had battered fish chips, the chips served in a chipped enamel pie dish. When the bill arrived, my meal was £28 not £24., I could not be bothered to quibble about it, so we paid left. Overall I think it’s trying to be trendy, without succeeding., without enough attention to detail. The staff were barely coping we’re running up down stairs. There was only one server with help from a young man downstairs. For the size of restaurant, this is inadequate. The prices do not justify the quality overall it felt like “ rip off the tourist” time in a short season."

"We visited 7.30pm on a Saturday evening.. due to the design of the branch the alcove space we we were tabled in appeared to magnify the noise of those around us.. and it got very noisy once the tables were full. The food looked good and half my pizza was very tasty .. the other half was quite the opposite.. the crab part being oddly tasteless. Service was good but a little slow.. again being out on a limb made me think we might have been forgotten. My wife had a fish dish which was very tasty but left her hungry.. one skewer not being enough .. so overall not that impressive. If an area is that tight on space please just put groups in there and do not mix them up .. you lose diners that way! Service was good though."

"One of the best meals I've had in recent memory. The moules marinerre had me scraping the bowl for the last of the broth/sauce, both it and the bisque were so warming and comforting with the bread making a perfectly buttery accompaniment for dipping/mopping. Ideal for a cold winters evening. The skate in lobster butter for main was unbelievable, the skate was as moist and delicate as the sauce was decadent (not to mention it being a very generous portion). Even the desserts were delicious, in particular the sorbet which was lovely and refreshing after such a hearty starter and main. These are the meals you dream of when going to a seaside town. Everything was cooked to perfection, lovely staff and ambience. I can't praise this place enough."
