"This is gonna be long one but boy she is worth it!! This is by far my new favourite restaurant. Did we drive 1.5 hrs to try this place? Yes. Did we do it a second time because they blew my mind? Also, yes. This adorable place located in Anglesey, Wales, had great reviews and the photos people shared online were just… mouthwatering. The first time I tried it, the seafood platter for two, extra lemon butter prawns and chips and the dessert trio delicious fruity drinks on the side. I have always refused to eat mussels because of the look and smell. Well I tried these and ate multiple. The calamari was tender and tasty, the prawn on toast was light and refreshing, the bream was fresh and fishy, the fried fish was flaky and crispy at the same time. I was obsessed immediately. The dessert trio was a snickers trio, a spiced caked and orange ice cream and crème brûlée. Each equally perfect. Zero. Complaints. Trip 2 we went in for the roast dinner. While not as awe inspiring to me as the seafood, the portions were fantastic, the variety of foods meant I never got bored and was always trying new combinations. The cheese starter was rich and decadent. Almost too much so but two was plenty for me. But the greatest part… the peach and raspberry dessert. I don’t have the words to describe.. I was overly full and feeling quite heavy from eating more than my body was wanting me to … when the dessert came out. OMG… it was light and airy, creamy but rich, sweet but tangy. Chunks of real peach hidden at the bottom. It was one of those moments when you just know… you’ve eaten one of the best things of your entire life. Catch 22 is a family run restaurant (I didn’t know at the time) that is always busy and no wonder. The service was great, the staff were lovely, the food was out of this world. The next time I’m in the UK I am making the trek over, no question about it. Hell I might even fly over just to go there. 10/10 absolutely incredible. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu someday."

"A couple of months ago, the Hotel du Vin chain launched Sunday brunch. Forget everything you know about brunch: Hotel du Vin’s offering is something else. We’re not talking a stack of American pancakes with syrup and blueberries, or even eggs Florentine. We’re talking four courses of fabulous food. At £19.95, it’s also fabulous value. Update, August 2013: the price has increased to £24.95, but that’s still good value for four courses. I was fortunate enough to be invited to the chef’s table one Sunday to take a spot of brunch with Michael Musgrave and Martin Barnovsky of Hotel du Vin, Edinburgh. It wasn’t just me: Katey from Edinburgh Eats and a friend were there too, and I had C. to escort me. The chef’s table is in a snug, just off the main dining room, and has a fish-bowl view of the kitchen. It’s an interesting view although I sometimes felt sorry for the chefs when we all turned to the window to gaze at what was happening in there. Hotel du Vin’s brunch is a slow, leisurely affair, a relaxed afternoon of eating and chatting. The four courses are: Soup The soup is usually vegetarian and the one we had was seasonal vegetable and came sprinkled with parsley and olive oil. It was warming and fresh, and just whetted my appetite. In preparation for a big lunch I’d had an apple and a glass of grapefruit juice for breakfast. Come one o’clock I was ready to eat. I was hungry. The soup woke my taste buds gently and made my stomach rumble. I’m surprised that we all managed to eat all four courses. C. probably had the smallest buffet place since he was bread and veg only, but the rest of us tried hard not to eat so much that we fainted. It took self-control. French Market Buffet I’d cheerfully charge the entire cover price of £19.95 for the buffet. With a collection of breads, cold cuts and sea food, it’s the closest thing to a smörgåsbord I’ve seen outside of Sweden. What’s on it will vary with the seasons but we had prawns (shelled, and unshelled), oysters, dressed crab, cold and hot smoked salmon, potted shrimp, clams, mussels, salami, parma ham on the bone, mushroom paté, chicken liver paté, baguette, croisants, bagel, and all kinds of sauces and pickles. I’m probably selling the non-fish part of the spread a little short: I saw the crab and oysters and stampeded past the charcuterie. You can visit the buffet more than once. We didn’t because we all figured that doing so would dampen our appetite for the main. Main Choose from beef or chicken roast with all the trimmings, catch du jour, burger, omelette Arnold Bennet (smoked haddock and cheese), steak frites, tomato risotto and other filling, comforting dishes. At the table we also had the chicken roast, with puffy yorkies and roast veg, and the burger. It was cooked to perfection and oozing with cheese. It came with a poke of frites and looked absolutely lovely. I think my catch du jour – a plaice, entire, gently fried and served with watercress and lemon – was probably the lightest option. It was delicious. A squeeze of lemon, a scrape with a knife, and it was perfect. I had some of the broccoli that came with the roast as a token green, but the plaice didn’t need anything but was great as it was. C. had the tomato and olive risotto which hearty and full of tomato goodness Pudding The deserts are classics: trifle, créme brulé, rhubarb crumble and cheese board are all on offer, as well as crumble, profiteroles and an ice cream coupe. Despite being in my twenties the first time I met a trifle, I enjoy the nostalgia of this particularly British dish. The Hotel du Vin version comes with crystal clear red jelly with a distinct sherry hit to it hiding under layers of cream and custard. It was big and I’m very proud of myself for finishing all of it."

"Admittedly we were late but I did call ahead and let the restaurant know we were running late, on our way, and would be there shortly. When we got there we were discouraged by our hostess/waitress from actually eating at the restaurant and to instead dine at the pub downstairs, but we insisted on the restaurant as we had seen the menu and booked on that information. There was another table upstairs so we were not the only ones eating yet it is not like the place was full. We were told the kitchen would close at 9:30pm which I thought a bit early, but we had time and put our starters and mains orders in. We also had not one but 2 bottles of fine wine. Our waitress then disappeared for the rest of our meal. When someone did finally show up. we asked for a dessert menu only to be told the kitchen had closed and no more orders would be taken. So where was our waitress? Why didn't she come to ask us if we wanted anything else before the kitchen closed? We were told we could stay and keep on drinking at the table -but also told if we wanted more to drink we could go downstairs to the pub. We asked how late the pub would be open -to know if we should stay or move onto another place. We were told 11:30pm? (yes 11:30pm) so we stayed had another round. The bell rang for last call and after deciding on our order were told that the bar was closed -at 11:03pm. OK, fine, pub rules, but we were told 11:30pm by the staff. It was a disappointing experience as we really felt the staff clearly didn't want to be there working, didn't want us to be there, they didn't want to serve or help us. The food was good, but that is not how we will remember our dinning experience here. And after all that, our bill was over 300 pounds for 3 of us!!! Which we would have no problem paying had we just had better service. And pudding."

"what a stunning little jewel just a stone's throw from waterloo station. I was great by a very friendly young lady blonde haare,) who found me a table on a Friday evening in consideration of the evening entertainment very well singer with his gitarre and harmonika.) the venue is very covered but with a touch of class with beautiful, subtle light and really warm atmosphere. a place where you're lucky to take a date. I noticed that they are also dogs friendly. they have a very good selection of beer and weep as well as cocktails that were offered at this night £6.50 from 8 o'clock, but I loved the Czech beer and stayed on it. the menu is in the round small plates of local ingredients to make as much as their meal times as possible. I felt hungry as always,) so the ochsenwangen had a side of the skin on fries. I have properly informed that it would be significant. the eating was just delicious, I can honestly say it was the most beautiful eating I had in a quite long time again a few years) and I often eat. from the 1st mouth full to the last did not want to finish it) it was simply amazing. ox wange is something I didn't have, but braided in a simple gravity and only a few nice with my fries that slept up the juice, I was in the food-to-food sky. I stayed for a few hours enjoying the beer and atmosphere created by entertainment and the staff as well as the good amount of people also a good evening. I ask them if they eat good service and only a good time to try this place, and I am confident that they will not be disappointed. Thank you."
