"4 courses taking nearly 4 hours, sub-standard food as well as the establishment thinking they can charge £150 per person. We arrived just after 12 and were sat in a room that ultimately would contain around 34 persons. Not too much of a challenge one might think Bringing out the bread for the table (with some very nice vol-au-vents) took around 15 minutes. And then we waited for our starters, and waited until around 1pm. Whilst the starters were to an acceptable standard then the long wait began. It was not just us but the whole room. Eventually the main course arrived at around 2.45. Now I do not mind taking a long lunch but this was ridiculous. However, having flown half way around the world for a traditional Xmas lunch whilst in UK the quality of the food was worse than one can do at home. The turkey was not even carved from the bird, it was one of those roll things that is bought in supermarkets and had obviously been frozen as it was soo dry. Likewise the stuffing. The gravy was thin and watery and obviously not made with the cooking juice run-off. The roast potatoes were over par-boiled and under roasted. The Brussels had not been sliced at the base and as such the stems were underdone. I even had to ask the waiter for cranberry sauce (twice). The only redeeming feature was the quantity but the dryness of it all almost caused me to gag. It was also obvious that all tables were similarly suffering and one table left early after a contretemps with the staff. Then there was the appalling service. The 2 male waiters were straight out of an episode of 'Fawlty Towers '. When the coffee came and my wife asked for sugar I had to go to the servers to get him to bring….. and then did not even think to offer a teaspoon. When I asked them to remove a 4 foot cobweb hanging from the upper wall light they looked at me as if they did not know what I was talking about. After having tried to hurry along the deserts and coffee it was almost 4 hours before we could leave."

"My wife and I got married here 01/10/23. We booked the whole thing in January 2022. From start to finish it was organised perfectly. Every member of staff we dealt with was friendly and professional and any changes we wanted were done without question and with minimal effort. The venue is a good size for what we needed, 60 guests throughout the day and the same for the evening. It’s intimate, rustic, full of character and a very calming and warm atmosphere. The mismatched chairs, the fireplace, the tables and the general decor adds to the charm of the whole place. We dealt with Meg the day before and day of the wedding. She used our decorations and set out the tables and surroundings perfectly! She was so good to talk to and it was evident she had our best interest at heart, and just wanted us to have the best day. The day ran smoothly, thanks to the staff and their efforts. We didn’t worry about anything and the pre-wedding meetings were efficient and made sure that we had considered and provided instruction for every aspect of the day. I couldn’t recommend this venue anymore. It’s well priced in today’s wedding venue market and I felt we got value for money. Whilst it may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I’d encourage anyone to have a look around the place and see what they thought. The location is great being just outside of the city centre. And having everything happen in one room always goes down a storm with guests. Thank you for making our day everything we wanted it to be. Mick Charlotte!"
