"So happy to have found a relatively local pub that does a great vegan Sunday roast. There is a choice of seitan or nut roast or alternatively pies. The choice when we were there was sausage and onion or mushroom and guinness pie. You can add cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding to the roast and choose a smaller portion which by the time you have added all the vegetables was more than sufficient. If you don't want a full dinner then there is a seitan Sunday batch. Three pudding options of apple crumble, ginger sponge pudding and chocolate nut brownie. We will definitely be back. The food was great and the staff were so friendly and helpful and made sure they only brought out vegan options."

"Went today 5/6/22 and had a Sunday roast . I had lamb mt husband had beef, this lunch was so hot, tasty and above all else moorish and delicious. So tasty even down to the thick gravy. If I could get away with I would have liked to lick the plate too. Thank you to the hef and please how do you cook your lamb please as I would to cook it at home like it. Plus thank you to the gorgeous waitress who served us to, she had patience when I stumbled over my words , she's a gem."

"Great pub on the edge of Epping Forest. Decent kids' play area, big outdoor space, lovely surroundings and dog friendly. Staff are lovely, although some of the more senior staff do seem to be going through the motions. Food seems decent, from what I saw, but didn't eat here as, at 5:15pm on a Sunday, they'd stopped serving food. Decent ales, but slightly limited selection. Apple juice was from the pump and tasted syrupy, quite fake. Overall I would say it's worth a visit but make sure you see Google maps for when they close and when they stop serving food as it's quite early."

"We happened upon this pub looking for a meal that evening (Tuesday). The lovely owner said that he could accommodate us but there wasn’t much food as he was usually closed. He came up with duck, scampi or ha, eggs and chips. We opted for the duck. He took my name and number and arranged to arrive around 6:30. Such a lovely friendly pub, a couple of drinks then we were taken into the restaurant. Loads of old classic motorbikes in there, fab. It turned out to be a set meal, soup (didn’t know what it was, surprise) turned out to be mussel soup. Absolutely delicious with a nice big g chunk of bread. The duck was cooked perfectly, came with mash and fresh veg and home made soup plum chutney, delicious Thought that was it but no, dessert was delicious included as well, out came a Oreo cheesecake, again homemade. Superb welcome, delicious food, we will be back! Thank you"

"Sunday roast was disappointing. We came here for the first time and unfortunately last time. The ladies at the front seemed pleasant enough but not attentive. We were told our food will take 15 mins and nearly an hour later it wasn't. We went back to the bar to check and struggled to get attention as they were chatting away. Turns out the roast is ready and they were going to bring it out now. I presume it sat under a lamp for a while. The meat was so dry and visibly not appealing. The extra portion of toasties had zero seasoning on them. We ate as we were starving but didn't enjoy it."

"Arrived 1 hour early to check in at Church Farm thought let's pop to Pagham Beach Cafe for a quick bite to eat first ... I ended up having cod, chips mushy peas ... it was scrumptious ... the batter on the fish was so light it was cooked beautifully ... my sister had cheese ham omelette and chips she enjoyed it too said it was really nice ... highly recommend"

"The reason I give 1-star is based on my email conversation with them, not the experience in the pub. The pub is amazing. I give 1-star to grab attention to an important matter than it was ignored in my conversation.Today I went for a run, and a bus almost hit me with a mirror. My partner knows a person that was killed by a bus mirror.What is the problem at Catherine Wheel. The hanging baskets. I told them years ago that I was almost hit by a bus mirror because of the hanging baskets, that only one person at a time can squeeze between the traffic light and the hanging baskets.This 1-star is for whoever was involved in a bus mirror accident, and for all these places that think they are doing something amazing by hanging the baskets to the head level and forcing pedestrians to put their life in danger for some **** flowers.I am 6 feet 4 and I am scared that one day a bus mirror will knock my head and leave me with a serious injury."

"I have mixed feelings about my experience here. I think this could be outstanding. Great venue, great vibe. Helpful staff choosing a wine, good selection of beer. Walked in via the back as we parked in the car park. Bar staff welcoming and friendly. Ordered a drink and decided to sit outside. The front was clean and tidy but on a main road so busy and noisy. (Not unpleasant at all) decided to head to the secret garden at the back. It was lovely but a bit windy, I imagine it would be stunning on a still day. We hadn’t booked a table but when getting our drinks we were told a table could be available when required. When we were ready we came in and were directed to our table. A round table near the door. The pub was busy but not full. There were other tables that probably would have been a better choice. Our orders were taken (menu has wine matches with the meals) I ordered the roast loin of pork with crackling. He ordered roast sirloin of beef. All roasts come with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, braised red cabbage, broccolini, greens, roasted roots (we had parsnip and carrot) and lashings of gravy. We waited quite awhile for our meals to come. At one stage one of the staff came to ask if we were waiting for food. Plates served, there was definitely lashings of gravy but I had to hunt for the crackling. It was a good meal, good serving. If I had to be picky I’d say the pork was a bit dry but it was smothered in gravy so I didn’t mind. Be nice to see the gravy served in a jug so you can add your own. No one came during the meal to check if it was ok or if we wanted more drinks. **** Mary needs a little bit of work but ok. Disappointed to be charged 10% service charge on the bill. I don’t mind paying for service but didn’t feel that the service warranted the charge. Overall I enjoyed my meal, I would go back."

"I just had the best Sunday lunch I've had in many years. We often try out various local restaurants and pubs, as well as Michelin-star establishments, but this one takes the top spot. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm and friendly family atmosphere, and the staff were exceptionally attentive, making the experience truly special. The beer was great, and the desserts were delicious—although I had to make an effort to find room for them after filling my plate with so many fresh and tasty vegetables and roast potatoes. I'm really glad I managed to squeeze in dessert, as I've never had cauliflower cheese quite like this before. The gravy was also unique, and I would love to get my hands on that family recipe. Overall, it's a fantastic place to dine, and I can't wait to return. Thank you to the staff for a lovely afternoon!"

"We spent the best part of the day at westward Ho! We went for dinner here on the 21st September 2023 had the best food. I had a chicken wild mushroom pie, mash, cabbage gravy my partner had the chicken burger with chips salad. We both finished everything on the plate as the portion sizes were just right. This set us up for the afternoon of crabbing swimming. Lovely staff too Price per person: £10–20"

"Very disappointed with our takeaway meal from this place. My husband walked down from the campsite to purchase a takeaway and was told cash only so as he only had his phone to pay, he returned to the campsite to inform me of the situation. 8 then walked into the village to get cash out of the machine and order our food. I was told it would not be ready until 8.10pm over an hour and half wait). I asked if I needed to pay upfront but was told no. I agreed and returned to the campsite to wait. My husband then returned at said time to pick up our order. I ordered the seafood box and chips. The whole meal looked and tasted like it was cheap, nasty over fried in old oil food. Absolutely disgusting and I couldn't eat it gave it to my dogs). Hubbies was just as bad, he couldn't eat the brown shrivelled chips. A very long wait involving ×3 trips too and fro from campsite to chippy for nothing. I might also add that the owner was a miserable so n so who blatenently had no sense of humour and made me feel that I was an inconvenience for stepping into the chippy to attempt making an order. "We booked a carvery for 6 at 3pm on Sunday 30th July and arrived in plenty of time. On arrival we were told by the chef that due to the number of walk ins there was no carvery available. "I had not visited the hoop for a long time and I was pleasantly surprised. The parking hasn’t changed it’s either on the road or at the hall car park which is free and a sub 5 minute walk. The food was absolutely delicious, actually nicer than a Michelin 2 star I recently visited in London. Downstairs felt cozy and buzzy as it’s right next to the bar but upstairs was equally as nice and very well decorated. Service was helpful and timely, the ladies were knowledgeable on the dishes and timing was spot on when to ask if anything was needed. Food and drink was priced fairly not cheap not expensive. "Found this gem of a pub whilst looking at Layer Marney tower. Popped in for Sunday lunch after visiting the tower and wow what a lovely surprise. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our roast lunch and dessert and the price was very reasonable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and we left feeling very full and happy that we had found such a lovely place to eat. We will definitely be visiting again soon, even though it's over 30 miles away. A big thank you to the team and chef for the warm welcome and lovely food."

"Visited with my 2 year old daughter as a treat, ordered chicken nuggets for her and a burger for myself. Waited 45 minutes, during which was told a few times it would only be a few minutes. Lots of large orders coming out from the kitchen for customers who came in after me. When the food finally arrived it wasn 't worth it. Burger order was wrong and looked a mess. When I questioned the staff I was actually told to 'smile, its christmas ' and also given the choice of, and I quote, 'redo the burger, have my money back or do one ' not impressed with the staff. And will be having my money back. Don 't bother wasting your money here."

"I was really excited to visit today for some pie and mash, but it turned out to be a disappointment! The pie seemed to have been microwaved and was burnt before that. It was flavorless and rubbery. The menu promised authentic pie and mash liquor, but what I received was more like pie, smashed potatoes, and maybe a trace of liquor. I felt like I wasted my £8.95. I left feeling hungry and frustrated. I spoke to the waiter about my experience, but no refund was offered. I certainly won't be recommending this place or returning."

"After a long walk along the canal, the 7 of us (and 2 dogs) popped into The Talbot for lunch. It has 2 main rooms with the back room extending into more of a dining area. The toilets are near the rear door, leading to a beer garden, which looked OK but might be more appealing in the Summer. Inside was very well presented, shining taps, clean, warm and welcoming I would happily come here again. The Craddock's beer was well kept but as only 2 staff members were working (chef and bar/food server) with 15+ punters eating and drinking, service was a little slower than I would expect but they worked as fast as they could and were still very attentive. The little wait was well worth it! I had the fish pie, it was labelled as home made and it showed, full of flavour, a decent portion and my side of cabbage was properly cooked with just a little crunch. Others had different pies and everyone enjoyed their meal. Main meals priced around the £12 14 mark and great value in my opinion. We all enjoyed our visit and would happily return, especially as it is dog friendly."
