"We spent the last three days in Porlock and visited this pub every day. Sometimes we went to eat, and other times just to enjoy the apple wine. Each time, we were made to feel welcome and like regulars! This is a genuine pub, where the landlord and landlady have a great rapport. Their banter is playful, and they engage with their customers in a wonderful way. We will definitely be returning!"

"Very disappointed with our takeaway meal from this place. My husband walked down from the campsite to purchase a takeaway and was told cash only so as he only had his phone to pay, he returned to the campsite to inform me of the situation. 8 then walked into the village to get cash out of the machine and order our food. I was told it would not be ready until 8.10pm over an hour and half wait). I asked if I needed to pay upfront but was told no. I agreed and returned to the campsite to wait. My husband then returned at said time to pick up our order. I ordered the seafood box and chips. The whole meal looked and tasted like it was cheap, nasty over fried in old oil food. Absolutely disgusting and I couldn't eat it gave it to my dogs). Hubbies was just as bad, he couldn't eat the brown shrivelled chips. A very long wait involving ×3 trips too and fro from campsite to chippy for nothing. I might also add that the owner was a miserable so n so who blatenently had no sense of humour and made me feel that I was an inconvenience for stepping into the chippy to attempt making an order. "We took a short weekend break for my parents wedding anniversary and booked all three rooms at Cross Lanes. On arrival Ellen and Billy and just the most welcoming hosts and simply cannot do enough for their guests. Even to the point of supplying us dog beds for the two spaniels we had with us. The food is fantastic from the home cooked breakfasts to the evening cheese boards and snacks. Local craft beers and locally sourced coffees are just some of the great beverages but the cocktails are also fantastic. The rooms are spacious and very welcoming with great en suites and incredibly comfortable beds. If you would like a great location for a weekend or mid week break we cannot recommend it enough. We will certainly go back."

"I 've had very good food and service here before autumn 2022 so was surprised and disappointed after returning with a friend yesterday. The mozzarella and basil toasted sandwich sounded inviting, but the reality was underwhelming. Hardly any mozzarella, dry, no basil whatsoever, a thin slice of tomato who knows, perhaps I was mistakenly served a child 's portion. It was on such a small plate that the accompanying undressed salad leaves and few crisps fell off as soon as you tried to cut into the sandwich. Oh yes, and I wasn 't given a knife, just a fork, so when I went up to the counter about it I was told abruptly they don 't give out knives ! Though my friend, who 'd ordered a scone, had been given a knife! What 's that about? Friend said her cheese scone tasted sweet and left half of it. She said that last year she 'd had accompanying chutney, but not this time. When she mentioned the sweetness of the scone the reply was 'We 'll keep an eye on it. ' Whatever that means. The coffee I had was about half the size of what I had last year. It wasn 't at all busy when we were there, but the 3 people serving were mainly wandering around doing who knows what, totally not interested in engaging with us and did not even come up to the table to ask if everything was OK. Perhaps because they knew in advance it wasn 't . Very lazy attitude. They have no competition up there so perhaps they feel they don 't have to try anymore. Well, they 've now lost two local customers and I shan 't be going back with a group of friends as previously planned. The only positive is that the display of cakes looked the same as before, but I didn 't see what the portion sizes were, so cannot comment on that. If you 're feeling hungry I suggest you eat something before you go there."

"We have just enjoyed a great weekend at the Ship Inn Porlock. We wanted a stay in a traditional quaint old English Inn and were not disappointed, and we thought the room rates represent very good value for money. The staff were very attentive, polite and helpful. We had two breakfasts and one evening meal and were very happy with the food offerings. We are frequent visitors to this lovely part of the world but our first time staying at The Ship, we will be back."
