"The reason I give 1-star is based on my email conversation with them, not the experience in the pub. The pub is amazing. I give 1-star to grab attention to an important matter than it was ignored in my conversation.Today I went for a run, and a bus almost hit me with a mirror. My partner knows a person that was killed by a bus mirror.What is the problem at Catherine Wheel. The hanging baskets. I told them years ago that I was almost hit by a bus mirror because of the hanging baskets, that only one person at a time can squeeze between the traffic light and the hanging baskets.This 1-star is for whoever was involved in a bus mirror accident, and for all these places that think they are doing something amazing by hanging the baskets to the head level and forcing pedestrians to put their life in danger for some **** flowers.I am 6 feet 4 and I am scared that one day a bus mirror will knock my head and leave me with a serious injury."

Pie and a pint with a mate. Good amount of seating. Open fire . Wide selection of beers. Large and varied pie selection went for curried Paneer and spinach, not usual choice, and wasn't disappointed...

great pub. they have looked this and the feeling tied up as I was there many years ago. warm feeling and friendly staff. did not get the chance to enjoy the gin garden as it was late. will return definitiw.

If you're a real ale fan this place is for you brilliant selection of beers and ales ....but the real winner for me is the pies ...they are amazing with a great selection and at very reasonable prices ...definitely worth a visit

The best pie pub ever! A great selection of different pies and sides. We had the Sag-pie-neer it was beautiful.Serving ales etc, clean, very friendly and the most reasonable prices we have come across.Definitely worth a visit, you will be pleasantly surprised.

this is a great pub, helpful staff and a very good selection of well kept ale (5 the day we visited last). eating is usually limited to cakes, but these are good quality with beautiful delicious fillings (including veggie and vegan options). all round great for a fast or slow place of lunch.

our daughter is vegan and we were over newbury so thought have a fast internet search for food. this place has provoked our attention. I didn't really think I'd like to make cake and maic, but the cake with blue cheese was amazing. the vegan eating was very nice who loved eating the music of reception and the city. we're coming back.
