"Or family had the pleasure of dining at Lebanese House yesterday (Saturday 7th January) for an evening meal, we were incredibly impressed by everything they had to offer. The restaurant is in a nice location in Newbury, it has nice views of the Weavers Walk courtyard and the restaurant itself looks classy and it appears to have been decorated with love. There is a large menu, so large in fact, my partner and I really struggled to choose so we decided to go for the set menu for two. All of the food was really excellent, all the meat was cooked to perfection and had a lovely smoky taste. We particularly liked the lamb chops and the kofta. The skewered chicken was also very good. The falafels were absolutely amazing, I could have eaten an entire plate of them, definitely the best we have ever tasted. The houmous was also brilliant, it went so well with all the lovely food, and the staff even brought out some extra bread for us to mop it all up with. We had a few cocktails which were made to perfection by the staff, I particularly liked my Zombie, I’d defiantly have that again. Their house wine was also very good. Then to the staff, every person that served us was excellent, we felt very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them, we were even complimented on our dress sense, which I thought was very nice. This was some of the best service that we have had at a restaurant, especially from the lovely Susanne and Kila (really sorry if I got either of those names wrong, I didn’t write them down immediately, and I’d had a few by the time we left so may not have remembered correctly). They were both so nice and attentive and made us feel like VIP’s for our entire visit, they deserve recognition for their commitment to great customer service. Susanne even came out and took a photo of is all together which was very thoughtful. To sum up, excellent restaurant, brilliant food and drinks and an amazing staff team, highly recommend."

"I would have given a score of zero if I could! I visited The Swan while staying at a local Airbnb. Our first choice was The Crown and Horns, but they were closed due to flooding. We arrived at 6pm with a group of 6, ordered drinks at the bar, and then sat at our table. The waitress was pleasant but swore in front of us, which was inappropriate. She took our order at 6:30pm and our starters arrived at 7:15pm. The bread and olives were clearly from a jar and very vinegary, the king prawns in garlic butter were plain grilled prawns on white bread. The crispy squid was actually calamari, not squid. We had to wait until 8:15pm for our main meals. The steak and ale pie was awful, with cold tasteless mash, cabbage, and watery tasteless pie. The waitress took the meal back, microwaved it, and returned it 20 minutes later. The Sean burgers were disappointing, more like swamp burgers than fresh burgers as described. The lamb shank in red wine jus was served with cold mash and cabbage and lacked jus. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, we were told we still had to pay for the pie. The landlady was rude and hostile, even swearing about us at the bar. I understand that this is a small country pub, but I come from a similar village where the local pub offers great food and service. Do not waste your time and money at The Swan. They charge gastro pub prices for cheap roadside cafe food and service. We will not be returning. It was awful!"

"We stayed here for a couple of days in October. The rooms are in what I presume are converted stables, to the side of the pub, with a nice view overlooking a paddock at the back. All are named after famous race horses. Our room was comfortable with a double bed, tea/coffee making facilities, a clean, white bathroom and adjustable heating via the radiators...Great as it was cold during our stay. The only annoying thing was trying to get the TV to work with the Sky box attached...instructions are in the room but it seemed a little hit and miss to get it to work. We had breakfast included which was OK. Very basic buffet of potted yoghurt, juice, croissants which were not replaced when all used up) etc, together with the usual cooked options. Service was friendly but very slow, even when there were just a few guests. We had an evening meal on one of the nights. The food was very tasty, with a nice vegetarian curry available for myself but service was painfully slow. It was super busy in the pub that evening because of some sports match on TV and it was also very loud in there. Clearly there were lots of locals who had come in to enjoy the match and the atmosphere. We planned to go walking on the Ridgeway during our stay and asked the bar staff for suggestions of other places to visit and where to park etc... Although friendly and wanting to help, the staff said they were not local and were not able to give us any pointers on places to visit etc...maybe a suggestion to have some local leaflets available or have some printed walking routes for guests? I love traditional old pubs but I found the dining room to be a little tired and grubby. It was a nice break away for a couple of days but nothing particularly special. I would recommend this place for a dinner but I personally wouldn 't return for a short break unless attending an event in that area as I 'd rather try somewhere different next time."
