"To my surprise, many restaurants are closed on Sunday evening in London. Every time I looked up a vegan restaurant on Happy Cow, it turned out it was closed. Since it was late and I was hungry, I had no other option than to select a vegetarian restaurant close by. 1947 Restaurant and Bar is both an Indian and Italian restaurant. The entire menu is vegetarian, however only around 20% is vegan. Many more meals can be made vegan, but so many of them had cheese listed as an ingredient that I didn 't want to run the risk. What if there 's an error in communication between the waitress and the kitchen? Or what if the chef accidentally adds cheese out of habit? I had lots of time to make up my mind, because even though the restaurant was very quiet it took a long time until the waitress came to take my order. I selected vegan biryani because I like biryani and because I 've tried it at so many restaurants that it 's easy to compare. It took a long time for the biryani to be prepared, but then it was served beautifully and smelled divine (as it should be). However, compared to other restaurants it 's a rather simple biryani. It has only one kind of rice (it is often served with both white and yellow rice) and only a few vegetables. There was no tofu, mushroom, potato, no nuts or any protein source. Also, the yoghurt was missing (which is used to extinguish the fire caused by the spices). The portion was generous and the taste was good. Although it was mentioned on the menu, 1947 Restaurant and Bar adds a 12.5% service tax. Why don 't restaurants just increase all prices on the menu instead of giving the customers a nasty surprise at the end?"

"The dishes at this restaurant are exceptional, with generous portions on each plate. I always make sure to order the rice plate as it never disappoints."

"Visited here during a recent holiday in London with my husband and children as we wanted to eat somewhere that wasn't a full restaurant. The lamb biryani has to be the best biryani I have ever eaten, so much so that we popped back in before our journey home two days later to pick up another one to have on the train! We will be back when we are next in London. Highly recommended for an authentic meal."

"[edit] I have to go back, the pub itself has a lot of potential under new management! Wouldn't get water, coffee or tea with the driver. Not allowed to drink water without alcohol and said there was no room for them. I've never felt so uncomfortable in a pub, they were so terrible. It is also really expensive, this place is terrible."

"Visited as a family with 2 young children. The waiter who served us was attentive and friendly. The waitress however seem very inconvenienced should we ever dare ask for anything. The waiter seemed panicked when I asked for a corkscrew to open our wine. I understood when he returned 10 minute later with my bottle with the cork pushed into my wine bottle, with plenty of corn sediments floating in it. Not the best start… We had the Tawa for 2 for £25. A little overpriced I would suggest but the portion size is generous! However, everything was just a little below expectation and a little bland. Nothing was poor quality, but little spice and little flavour in any of the dishes. Meat in the curries was a little sparing too compared to other restaurants serving similar dishes. Was surprised to be told cash only as I paid but luckily had enough to cover the bill. Not one we’ll return to."

"A cheap food for Pakistani cuisine. Will not recommend the whole menu, but their chicken biryani, chicken curry offers are good and worth the price. The chicken biryani is mixed with good biryani recipe not like rice with curry types. They are also quite fresh as they sell well daily. Taste is very much house style nothing like a restaurant preparation. You can literally cook the same food at home. £3 for Biryani and £4.50 for Curry plus 2 Roti."

"we had a nice meal in namaste last weekend and would highly recommend it. the employees have gone significantly too much work to make the place safe, the restaurant was extremely clean, we had checked our temperature at the arrival, completed track and trace on our phones, and the personal wore masks. eating was amazing, really fresh and authentic. there were many options for vegetarians, and the people in our group who told meat that this was also great. it was a quiet Sunday afternoon when we visited, but the service was great and the staff was very friendly and attentive. we will definitely come back!"

"We visited this restaurant on Friday and found it wasn’t very busy. We had to wait for a while, but once we were seated, our young waitress, Naz, was absolutely fantastic – truly five stars! She had a wonderful attitude, was very friendly, knowledgeable, and overall just a great person. She's a real asset to your restaurant, and I hope you don’t lose her, as that would be a real shame. She really made our evening enjoyable. As for the food, it was lovely as well. We had a voucher for a five-course meal, and while there was a bit of a delay, the overall experience was great, and I would definitely go back!"

"I was three times at this resteraunt at the end of southall broadway. had an breakfast on Saturday, midweek dinner with friends, and a weekend lunch decent enough space as many others on southall broadway (gifto’s, tkc etc.) regarding the environment. food is comparable. the trick, not really much better or worse. although I would say that the leti’s and sweet dishes are not as good as some of the other breakfast was disappointing. especially because I like my Pakistani breakfast to have chicken keema, and they do not generally do that well. I'd go back. I wouldn't leave. from the way above all tho when it is on southall broadway and have a choice between poisono’s, tkc and dawat. dawat is...read more"

"I am VERY fussy when it comes to Indian cuisine; it has to be prepared by Indians and be authentic in every way. A good tip here is to check that beef doesn't appear anywhere on the menu!! And that there is a good selection of veggie dishes and authentic sweets. Masala Zone passed this litmus test with flying colours. We started with the 'grazing platter' for two... this consisted of a small puri each which exploded with flavour, two portions of 'bhel' and two small samosas. What a great starter, all totally authentic, perfectly presented and spiced. For mains I had the Fish (Talapia) curry and my guest enjoyed the Veg Biryani with a glass of house red. Both dishes exceed expectations by a country mile and thankfully the portions were overly large so we still had room for some afters! The Ras Malai was heavenly... not too sweet or creamy. And the Gulab Jamuns (served with ice cream) were probably the best I have ever tasted... light, fluffy and subtle. I washed my afters down with a lovely cup of Masala Chai. If you have never had a Masala Tea... go for it!! The bill came to a tad under which I thought represented excellent value for money. The service was informative, very polite and efficient. The ambience and decor was to my mind a perfect match for the menu. All-in-all Masala zone gets a big from me and I’ll certainly be heading back often."

"We tried out a Kerala Christmas meal at @tindlibychefkarnavar in Croydon which showcased traditional dishes that would be included in a Christmas/Easter meal in a Kerala Christian household. It was a large spread and the overall quality of the dishes was good. The service was ok. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch"

"Aside from the entrance, we were pleasantly surprised. Once you get past the plain, apartment-like facade, you're welcomed by a fresh, modern interior and the enticing aroma of the food. The dishes are beautifully presented and taste delightful. The portions are generous; for three people, we ordered two starters, three main courses, and three sides (naan and rice), and we ended up with a 'doggy bag' containing two full servings. The waitress was attentive without being intrusive. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, and we will definitely return."

"Absolutely incredible! I took my father here for his birthday because he loves curry, and I know Akbars is one of the best Indian restaurants in Newcastle, if not the best. From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us like long-lost relatives. They made us feel very welcome. The service was exceptional, rivaling that of five-star hotels. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered great recommendations for delicious dishes. The manager also came by to ensure everything was satisfactory. We were blown away by the excellent service and mouthwatering food—so much so that I forgot to take pictures and ended up diving into my meal like a hungry animal! I would give it 10 stars if I could. Highly recommend!"
