"This charming old barn is situated in an ideal location along the Lancaster Channel. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is delicious, beautifully presented, and plentiful. "Had such a terrible experience walking into here. After coming to the area to celebrate a family wedding we went in hoping to get some food which on the outside said started from 6pm this was also stated online. When we went in my brother in law (white) was greeted with smiles when we walked in behind him (black) the mood became hostile and we were patronised as we were told food is not being served. When we tried to explain the website and sinage outside we were once again spoken to in an aggressive manner. I found this very uncomfortable experience as we could have still have consider sitting down for drinks. The service and atmosphere shown to us gave us the impression straight away we were not welcome. Just to be clear me and my brother inlaw both left our own separate reviews as we all felt the same way and furthermore even if food is no longer being served the delivery of this fact towards us was out of order on every level."

"We arrived at Lulworth Cove around 4pm and decided to stop by the Inn to see if we could make a reservation for later that evening. The staff at the bar were friendly and quickly found us a table for 6:30pm. When we returned for our meal, the service was exceptional and the food was excellent. My partner ordered the award-winning steak pie (voted England's Best Steak Pie in 2015) and was very impressed with the tender steak filling. I chose the beetroot and mackerel salad, which was delicious with plenty of olives, peppers, and a flavorful dressing. For dessert, my partner had the rhubarb crumble with custard, while I enjoyed the locally-made chocolate and Dorset clotted cream ice cream. Overall, we had a great experience and felt that we had made a fantastic choice by dining at this restaurant. We highly recommend it."

"I think it was a bit to do with timing as the cabbage and carrots were very dry. I did not select any cabbage. My wife said the Yorkshire pudding did no feel or taste right (I did not have one). This is unusual as normaly everything is very good. This would not stope from returning as I believe it was unfortunate timing."

"Always a pleasant experience for a Sunday lunch at the Barnes. Last minute and impromptu visit, and well worth it. The meat server wasn’t shy, the meat was tender and tasty, as were the freshly cooked veg. We were served by a lady called Carol and made it all the better. Very professional and very polite. "Ignored on arrival, so we sat at a table which was not designated reserved. We helped ourselves to menus, selected our main course and ordered at the bar. The pub was near empty but a waiter consistently kept his back to us and when he turned to face us gave us the feeling we were invisible. The food arrived within a fairly acceptable time. My friends fish was ok 'ish. My chicken dish, given as coq au van was very poor. The vegetables were old and reheated and only the limp carrots had a little flavour. The chicken was tasteless and the skin had not been removed, which is standard practice as no one likes soggy white chicken skin. The sauce was worse of all. The colour and taste suggested gravy granules had been used, there was barely a hint of wine, whether red or white was impossible to determine. The dish it was served on was damaged, a black rim around the inner bowl. In over 40 years as a professional cook this meal is one of the worst. However, to add to insult to injury, the response by the member of staff I complained to led to a very insincere apology. This was negated by her declaration that she was very surprised as this was a favourite dish of their customers, with no complaints at all. She forcefully reiterated this point. The black rim was explained away as caused by the dishwasher and all their plates were affected this way. The pudding tasted ok, but evidently a pre-made product microwaved. However, it was served on a mini 'frying ' pan with a tiny amount of syrup. This was then placed on a flat platter with custard in a tiny sauce boat. More importance and emphasis on 'clever ' presentation than on ease of eating. Also, a fork is essential to go with the spoon in order to prevent having to chase food around a flat based platter! We only had a spoon each. This pub has gone downhill. Poor quality food, pricey and poor service."

"buchtisch. kellnerin very welcoming. but it was very disappointed that they only make the caries. what they see on the karvery servedabelle is the full menu. the display image demonstration shows a platelet salat that beats salat is offered. but no, just what you see, what I lacked in kind choices. cartoffels were dried, baked/boiled. good if you want a huge yorkshire pudding to fill your teller! waitress said they dropped the menu, it's just what they can see. so it is dried kartoffels, a veg. huge yorkshire pud."

"We have visited Empress of Blandings on a number of occasions for lunch and always enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately this Sunday´s roast lunch was below their previous fare cold plates, luke warm and bland tasting food nothing to shout about and disappointing. It is a lovely traditional pub with a warm welcome and very convenient for the M27. I am sure this was just an off day for the Chef and normal service will be resumed."

"Food and wine very good, very tasty and served piping hot with veggies nice and hot too. The children's chicken pie was very tasty with very nice pieces of chicken in and not swimming in too much sauce which can be the case. Desserts were very tasty too. Our waitress was not as good as the one we had two weeks ago. She was inattentive and more interested in cleaning the empty tables and sweeping the floor. We had to ask her each time we needed something even though the place was not at all full at the time we went. When she brought the wine she just plonked it on the table with some glasses and walked away. Our waitress on the previous visit was super, no comparison this time. Poor service can put people off returning somewhere despite the food being good."

"I was disappointed with my recent experience at this restaurant. I had specifically booked a table near the carvery because my mother, who is over 80, cannot walk far and needed a comfortable spot. Instead, I was seated near the entrance, which was too far for her to manage, so I ended up having to fetch both of our meals. I expressed my dissatisfaction to a young staff member, who informed me that the restaurant was fully booked and offered no alternatives. I noticed her speaking to someone who appeared to be the manager, but he didn’t come to check on us. We visit this restaurant frequently, so we were quite disappointed with how we were treated, especially considering how hard my mother tried to come out. It took some time for someone to notice we were waiting for drinks, but when the waitress did come by, she was very pleasant and checked on us after we finished our meal."

"Usually a really good meal an experience. On this occasion the food came out just about warm enough to eat. I felt like I needed to eat in a hurry. To be fair I was offered the option of having the food reheated, but previous experience made me say No as you often end up waiting a long time, whilst your dining companions eat alone. "The Restaurant was a great find. Went there as a party of 3 for my birthday lunch treat today. The lunch menu has limited number of dishes compared to the evening one but are very well balanced. I have never seen kadhi chaval and channa jor garam on a uk restaurant menu, so well done for being so original. The restaurant is located nearest carpark 2, so best to park there. The restaurant decor has many traditional Rajisthani puppets hanging high above the restaurant entrance, nice touch. We ordered 3 starters (Street food) which we shared, they had the correct balance of sweet, hot and sour tastes, although I did compliment mine with additional tamrind, chilli and coriander sauces. We ordered different versions of the Thali. This was impressive indeed. The variety of items, presentation, flavour, temperature and amount of food served in the thali (the circular stinless steel plate) was perfection itself. Every dish had its own traditional Rajisthani unique flavour, could not fault it. Thank you Sohan for your personal courtesy you showed us, the table you had reserved for us, my birthday wishes and for having created a truely great, clean, restaurant with a memorable menu. This was amongst the very best food I have ever had, a great birthday feast. It was a true gastronomic delight for my tastebuds. The restaurant is now firmly on my agenda, a great find indeed. Recommended"
