"The restaurant itself is beautiful with all the pictures, chandeliers, booths and tables, shiny wood floor and low lighting and a picture perfect bar and champagne trolley. The staff were brilliant. Attentive without being intrusive, the restaurant manager (deputy maybe) was so helpful, knowledgable and friendly that we felt very at home. The food was lovely, as a vegetarian, I found lots to choose from and it was a special meal for my birthday and sometimes nice restaurants can be disappointing when you're the only vegetarian eating tomato and pasta, but I would recommend Berners Tavern as a great place to have a celebration, romantic meal or friends reunion brunch."

"Disappointed. Arrived and host was on the phone for at least 15 mins. Didn’t even acknowledge us , security door man was embarrassed by it so decided to take our coats. Once host eventually acknowledge us it was another wait to for some one to come and collect us and show us our table. Once seated it was slow to be served . Food came out in drips and drabs . Why send the rice out 10mins before the main ! As some were getting their mains , the two who ordered the wagyu beef were told it had run out so we were offered ribeye steak instead. Not a good choice . So fatty . I did enjoy the sushi I had so wasn’t a complete flop . We were really looking forward to this after we had a great dinner earlier in the year at a different Ivy Asia . This St Paul’s branch was an absolute let down. Won’t be booking here again any time soon."

"The rude waiter gave away half of our bottle our wine and charged us for it. Tried to make us leave after an hour and a half and said we drank all our wine. When questioned he began to argue with us and said he could charge us for the wine we hadn't drunk???? Got a glass of wine after speaking to the manager but it was not managed well at all. Would not recommend at all"

"Our visit to this restaurant was disappointing. It was very quiet, with only about 15 people eating. My colleague and I shared a Tomahawk steak, which ended up being more expensive than we were told. We had to wait 20 minutes for our starters, and then another 50 minutes for our main course. When it finally arrived, we had to send it back to the kitchen to be reheated because it had been sitting out and gotten cold. Our waiter Matteo started off nice but became less helpful once it came time to pay the bill. The bill included a 12.5% service charge, which I was considering asking to have removed. Overall, I would not choose to visit this restaurant again."

"Firstly I want to say there is so much that deserves praise here smiling front of house/receptionists/wonderful floor staff managers constantly observing everything going on watching the floor/drinks waiters constantly topping up water replenishing wine etc/beautiful breathtaking surroundings attention to...detail immaculate furnishings everything is spot on…..but the food. The ‘occasion of the place’ well makes up for this BUT from the price point the food needs to also be perfection. This starts as any good chef knows with seasoning bland doesn’t cut it at this level of dining. Nor does look-warm. It’s such a shame as I wanted to give the full 5-Star review but sadly it was the food in a restaurant of this standing that needs to be excellent) that let it down. We still had a wonderful evening experience but the kitchen needs to ‘step up’ in line with everything else that shines here. There are so many very good dining establishments close by that I wouldn’t be rushing back just yet."

"We ordered the £90 steak for two to share for a special occasion. It took an hour for our starter to come out, and the steak was not of good quality, with a tough, chewy exterior and lots of fat. The portion of the steak that was cooked properly was tasty, but overall it was not worth the money. The table next to us had the same dish and it looked much better. We were unhappy with the service as our order was forgotten and the steak was rushed when it finally came out. However, the manager handled our complaint well by giving us a 30% discount on our bill and offering us a delicious dessert. Overall, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but I probably wouldn't return as the quality of the food seems inconsistent."

"Popped in today at 6pm with my dad, now I used to go to this restaurant with my dad, friends and family all the time and the two male waiters /bar tenders were fab. Today I showed up without a booking and there was only...one couple at the table. I asked if they could fit us in bearing in mind it was just about to be 6pm and they said they had no availability bearing in mind the restaurant was empty, they said if I had a reservation which I said I didn’t. Anyway we left, going outside I said to my dad that it was weird they never have treated me that way before so we quickly went online to book a table. What a coincidence there was a table available at 6:15 and 6:30pm for two people. Extremely disappointed and won’t be going back the girls attitudes were abysmal, pitty the waiter guy was at another table I bet he would have sat us down at a table straight away and welcomed us with a friendly smile like he always did. Won’t be going back and very very poor attitude and service from the 3 girls at the entrance and bar. I guess they didn’t fancy working today."

"We came to the restaurant to celebrate my friend's birthday and taste American food. I was most looking for food from the smoker, and the beef briquettes were not disappointed. The bet was also very nice. We had the fudge cake and the New York cheese cake for the desert and really enjoyed it. The service was excellent."

"I have to say I was somewhat disappointed with my meal. While the starters were fantastic, the main course didn't quite meet my expectations. The chicken was tasty, but it was overwhelmed by an excessive amount of cold yogurt poured on top, which caused the dish to lose heat quickly. My dining companions also felt that the starters outshone the mains, which included calamari, a mixed platter, and moussaka. Others we know have raved about their meals there, so perhaps we just visited on an off night. Would we go back? We're not certain. It felt quite pricey for what we considered to be a mediocre meal."

"Our experience from start to finish was outstanding. We were warmly welcomed by the staff upon arrival, and it only got better from there. The food was exceptional, accompanied by prompt service from the team, just as we expected. We ended the evening with a few cocktails, and the mojitos we had were among the best we've ever tasted. "Visiting on business trip and decided to try this restaurant out. The food was good but there was a lack of engagement from staff, we are used to excellent customer service from other local restaurants. We were offered water and accepted but believed this was complimentary due to how it was offered, we were astonished to find out we had been charged around £5. It should have been made clear that there was a charge for this. The food,albeit good, took a while to arrive with little interaction from the staff who appeared to be chatting amongst themselves. We were further shocked and surprised by the service charge on the bill. This is not so.ething we are used to or have experienced before, as I say, we are visiting on business. I have since learned that this is optional and we could have refused it but this was not made clear and we felt forced to pay it. All in all this visit left us feeling somewhat disappointed and underwhelmed. Please be more clear with what is being charged for and the options to those expected to pay!"

"We had a dreadful meal on Wednesday before a gig at the Apollo. Asked about allergies and told them, however was then brought food with the allergen in twice. It is an unusual allergy, so gave them a bit of the benefit of the doubt, however service was painfully slow andncertain serving staff were pretty rude (including one staff member spilling water on my friend and not even apologising). My friend's main course then arrived cold, and we did not have time to wait for it to be remade. In fairness, the staff member who brought our bill was very apologetic and took all of the food off the bill, but that didn't make up for the terrible experience and my friend only having a starter in the end. We just wanted to have a decent meal with competent service, but that did not seem to be on the menu."

"cat and canary can boast to be the real sportable in canary wharf, unless it is summer or winter sports is always on in summer when weather permits, they set up a tw in the window so that people can sit outside they enjoy the games. in the inner there are 2 LED TVs and a projector screen, quite anywhere they sit, they can not miss the action. they have some good ale and camps on the train and the plates, especially the meat plate it is worth putting up for great sports events such as Olympic or world cups, fine line, davy’s or broodies next to TV screens, but for the year of action there is no other place like cat and canary!"

"every year we come back to lunch. as old retired city chaps this has always kept beautiful memories. Unfortunately, yesterday was a catastrophe. strangely, we had to wash the order from a set menu a few and the story. we had all smoked laughs, which was good. I ordered steak and chips. the steak was ok, but very small, and I counted 7 chips in mine and my friends. a bit dirty green peasant no sneaking offered no sneaking tomato. it was a shame. the service was terrible. I don't think I counted a smile. I asked for more chips and said I don't pay them. my brother had truth. it looked like it had been under warm heating for a long time. the dark flesh was not edible and there was no filling. he complained and they returned with a better looking version. no excuse. oh and the restaurant was just a third full so I still don't know why we had to preorder and how they could supply such a crumbly food. the next cure was cheese, which was already prepared in a refrigerator. three types. and three cookies. my brother's plate was ice cold right from the freezer. totally unacceptable. he changed for Christmas pudding. there were no excuses or something. we'll never do it in that thing. such a shame to see an old clip disappear."

"The restaurant was poorly managed, very quiet, and lacked any ambiance. We had to wait a long time for someone to take our order and were disappointed to find that many dishes were not available, including crocodile steak. The only exotic meat option was zebra. Despite my 11-year-old son being too old to be classified as a child, they did not offer any child-friendly options. We were served a burnt burger with no cheese and fries coated in a spice my son couldn't eat. It took a long time to get our bill, which was overpriced and included a 12.5% service fee. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. I don't mind paying for quality food, service, and atmosphere, as I recently had a great meal in Florida for over £300. The Zulu dish at this establishment was far from a pleasant experience or tasty bite. Overall, it was a complete letdown."
