"The three of us shared 2 starters and 3 mains. The trio of starters was delicious, although one was a surprisingly bright green. The lamb strips were particularly impressive, served with a red-currant jelly and Indian spices. For those who enjoy a rich, slightly sweet curry, the lamb and apricot dish is a must-try. My sister's lamb practically melted off the bone, while my friend loved her creamy and flavorful New Delhi chicken. The naan bread was some of the best I've had, light and crispy, and the side of mushroom curry was also a hit. We will definitely be coming back to this restaurant - as a self-proclaimed foodie, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. At £21 per person including drinks, it was a bargain for such a great dining experience."

"I have to say I was very surprised how bad my experience was with the Spice Merchant was. It started very badly with the food taking two hours to be delivered. This was after several calls over that period where we were told that the food was on its way and should be with us in five minutes. That was a bad start but the food was just as bad. The only saving grace were the starters of chicken lamb lollipops which were tasty. The main courses were all very disappointing, lacking spice and flavour. They were also swimming in oil. The breads were also flavourless. I don’t like to give reviews like this but in this case it is well deserved especially as it was extremely expensive. £150 for five people. For that kind of money it should have been allot better. Worst curry I have had I recent memory! Service: Delivery Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40"

"They also have great offers; it's impressive how they provide such high-quality food at such reasonable prices! We paid about £10 for what we had: poppadoms, a starter, a main course, and a side. We were so full after our meal that we didn't have room for dessert or coffee, but even if we did, I don't think we would have spent more than £15 per person! Better yet, in true Balti house tradition, they allow you to bring your own alcohol, so there's no need to overspend on drinks either! I definitely missed out by not trying this place sooner. I used to think my options were either a) go to a fancy restaurant for good food and pay top dollar for both food and drinks or b) go to a Balti house, where the quality is hit or miss, so I just never bothered, even though it would save me money. Now I've found the best of both worlds: a great restaurant, top-notch food, low prices, and the ability to bring my own alcohol! Is it any wonder that I've been back four times in the last two weeks? Keep up the great work!"

"As it was my birthday me and a friend thought it would be a nice treat to get a takeaway after work. We placed our order over the phone and requested to collect it so that we could receive the 10% off the bill which I saw advertised online. We also asked out of interest if they would offer anything complimentary as it was my birthday. The person on the phone asked what I liked to drink to which I replied Prosecco, he then began to laugh which made me think that that was too much to ask for and he would've expected me to just ask for a beer or glass of wine. It wasn't until we were about to leave the restaurant after paying and collecting our order that the man lifts up a bottle of champagne and gives it to us for free! This was a wonderful surprise that went beyond expectations and made us leave with smiles on our faces. The food was very tasty and filling also and overall it was a great end to my birthday. We will most definitely be back!"

"we just finished our meal (we had a lie because the portions were generous! and it was incredible! as it is a bank holiday, delivery was fast and contactless, as desired. my man called when I'm free of milk and they were so helpful by being over the ones of my favourite dishes free of milk and finding close alternatives for others. it was without doubt the most tasty and softest beautiful lamb I've ever eaten. would definitely recommend and we will order again. "The restaurant is very nicely decorated but the food and service do not match to that experience. We were sat so close to other people on other tables it was like were dining with them. We attended pre concert and chose the concert menu. The appetisers came within minutes of ordering, there wasn't a lot for the price. The mains we had to wait over 45 minutes for which was not good and we kept being told it was on the way. The food when it came was average curry really. It had obviously been cooked in a huge batch as it was on the set menu so not sure why it took so long. The service was not great...we were never asked if the food was ok or if we wanted another drink. We only had Coke and this was rather expensive at £3 for a tiny bottle.... Overall i think the place is very nice but the food was average at best and the service poor. The set menu was £25 per person which was not value for what you actually got. We saw a 10% service charge on our bill which we asked to be removed. Tried it, but wouldn't go back again."

"The food was mediocre and I didn’t feel like there was anything special about it. Just tasted like a normal curry from any high street takeaway. The seating was so tightly arranged and at times I couldn’t push my chair back to stand because the table behind me had their chairs straight up against my back. Pretty much immediately after we finished eating, we could see the staff eyeing us to leave. And we felt uncomfortable and as if we were imposing even when there was no time limit on the table."

"DON'T BOTHER GOING ! ........ I I could give 0 stars I would. The food is in my opinion of super market standard. The service was shocking, 1 waiter and one girl who usually does deliveries was roped into help out. She did a fab job and was lovely. My biggest issue was the menu..... the drinks section said Rosè wine £3.95 per glass, there were no medium or large prices just per glass. So when I ordered a glass of rosè I expect to pay the menu price. Well that was what I expected however the waiter had other ideas and when we went to pay he said my glass of wine was a large so was more expensive, and apparently all the cobra bottle beer prices were £1 more expensive than the menu price. We were told the prices were old! I wouldn't entertain this establishment if it was the last curry house on the planet."

"We live in Devon and visited some years. When we were near Amesbury again, we had to come again. The food is fantastic, the service was good and the staff were attentive and wonderful. I had the Mixed platter feast house special and my wife had the Balti Lamb shank house special. Both were wonderful and good portions. Fully recommended. We will be back. "not to find the simplest place, but an absolute pearl when they do. the inner is very clean, modern in styling and welcoming. from our experience the service was from the beginning attentive, friendly and fast, but without being overwhelming. the quality of the food was delivered in good time excellent, fresh and hot. and especially it was very delicious. the choice of crying is also a plus point. overall a great experience and we will not hesitate to go back. highly recommended. "Although the food was nice, the experience was not! The manager was rude and did not make us feel welcome. Rushed us to order saying we had limited time at the table as it was booked for another group in 90 minutes. Then the food took forever to arrive. Waiting for the bill and for a waiter to come and take our payment felt like an eternity! We left 45 minutes after the time the manager said the next booking was due to arrive, they never came because there was no other booking! One waiter opened the door for us when we left and said thank you. That was the most polite any of the staff had been all evening. Very disappointing and no wonder the staff are miserable with a manager like that! We were looking for a place for the 8 of us to meet up regularly, it won't be at Vakas! Will never go there for a meal again!"

"we visited pepper during a short holiday break between christmas and new year. it was a quiet night to be a Wednesday, although there were a few larger groups celebrated birthdays and, although we had booked online, there were many tables to choose from. the menu contained some dishes that we had not met before. we had small but beautifully cooked and presented seafood stars. for the main course my partner chose the tandoori lammings that were plentiful and excellent. I had a royal dish that was just as delicious. there was a light mix with our order that was taken on a digital device, which led to us getting a few dishes that we had not requested! However, this was quickly sorted out, with excuses and a free supplement. a very nice meal in a beautiful restaurant."
