"I received an email the day of my event sent at 4.20pm but not seen by me until 6pm informing me that our food would be delivered between 5 and half past rather than the arranged 6.30pm due to adverse weather conditions. The venue had NOTHING to do with our event. It is a private function room. The tables for the buffet were not set up ready to receive when the food was delivered at 5.15pm which is the time venue bar staff told us it was delivered. (The catering owner states it was actually 5.45pm) My staff member arrived at 6pm to set up the trestle tables and the food had already arrived. She then set up the tables and when I arrived we had to move all the food over to where it should be. In my opinion the catering shed should have called the venue and got the number for the organiser (me) and contacted me directly. Better yet they should have taken a contact number in the first place. We could then have arranged to receive and refrigerate at my Nursery up the road. It’s completely unacceptable even had the food been perfect to deliver 1.5 hours earlier than expected without proper communication. But sadly the food was far from perfect. I sent an email on 17th November stating ‘Paid with thanks. Can I just check a few things please. I know I just said NO NUTS but also please no orange or rosemary unlikely as they are anyway. I know there will be candied peel in mince pies and just that is ok.’ Owner replied on 23rd…6 days later (which is a recurring theme-2 days maximum for a business reply is acceptable in my humble opinion) ‘Received your payment with thanks. I have also made notes of your requests.’ Obviously she hadn’t made a note. Because I opened the ‘Deluxe Cheese Platter’ and was smacked in the face with orange smell which made me vomit. (It’s my allergy which triggers vomiting and migraine) Now who puts Orange halves in with cheese…especially SOFT cheese which will soak up the orange flavour?! Especially when you’ve been specifically asked not to use oranges due to an allergy. The whole cheese board was then off limits to me. The owner has replied to my complaints basically stating that nobody else has complained and implying it must be my staff with dodgy palates . Going so far as to reference an email I’d sent saying some of my staff are ‘fussy buggers’ which was actually in regards to the festive menu items that I missed off and replaced with bespoke alternatives I requested. Funnily enough it was the basic items that were unacceptable: Cheese Onion Rolls had barely any filling and were dry. Pizza was dry and hard. Spring rolls were soggy. The chicken sandwiches had no butter or spread as requested. The tuna and egg sandwiches however appeared to have some sort of spread on and were brought to me by staff who then said they couldn’t eat them. The owner maintains no spread was used which if true then I don’t know what the problem was. I couldn’t tell either way but I only ate 1 of each as I personally found them bland and flavour less. I was hoping to receive a partial refund of 50%, not use them again and say no more about it. We’re talking £450 worth of food! So half back for all these issues is not unreasonable given our first post covid staff gathering was ruined. I’m very disappointed that the owner is not taking any responsibility or taking on board the negative feedback on the food. She has refused any form of refund with the exception of £10 to compensate for missing banqueting roll! AVOID"

"Newly opened Queenswood is a neighbourhood restaurant and bar from the same folk as Damson Co., located in quaint Battersea Square. It's a stunning site, full of thoughtful interior design touches from Eloisa Cuturi including a playful drawing, spread over wall mounted literature, a faux Cocteau sketch, and numerous eye catching lights. An airy coffee table destined for Royal College of Art students and their Macbooks welcomes you before you make it to a stylish cocktail bar and spacious counter for dining that The Palomar can only dream of. Two record players lie in wait for relaxed Sunday sessions with a BYOLP system. Let's talk cocktails. The bar is not an afterthought in fact, it's just what Battersea Square needs. Apart from Zocalo next door (a lively agave joint get the Mezcal Negroni), we've not got a lot to work with (London House, Bunga Bunga, Doodle Bar). Luckily, Queenswood's affordable £8 cocktail list includes some real winners: Negroni Rosemary infused gin, Campari, Barolo Chinato, dash of Balsamic Champ Honey Sochu, Suze, Cocchi Torino Cherry Heering Hemp Old Fashioned Unaged Rye Spirit, Hemp Syrup, Bitters Filbert's Treat Monkey Shoulder, Cocchi Americano, Frangelico Abstract Infusion Mezcal, Fernet Branca, Creme de Apricot, Byrrh Moving on to food, Queenswood have called on Parisian Aude Plocktor who has devised a menu that calls on many cuisines. From Galician Octopus to Israeli Couscous via Squid Tempura and Thai Beef Slad, it's an odd collection of dishes! Here's what we went for: Octopus Nicoise Green Beans, Saffron Boiled Potato, Cherry Tomato, Peppers, Olives Lettuce Smoked Duck Salad Bamboo Shoots, Green Beans, Orange Grapefruit, Coriander, Sesame Seeds Ginger Pig Bavette Steak (x2) served with Chips Roasted Root Vegetables Baked Apple (x2) Coconut Yoghurt, French Toast The starters made a decent impression, but the glorious Ginger Pig meat stole the show. Check the blackboard when you arrive to see how many steaks are left, and reserve a couple without hesitation. The Baked Apple was also a real treat, beautifully presented, and much more interesting than the name suggests. Alternative desserts of African Cacao Chocolate Souffle and Caramelised Pineapple with Mint Ajowan Seed Syrup also deserve a go. All in all, it was a very pleasant lunch, and Queenswood shows a lot of promise. I'll be back again soon for more of Igor's cocktails, and to check out the weekend brunch menu. Locals are bound to flock to it, especially in Summer when Battersea Square comes in to its own."

Taco Mazama

"I stopped here on Saturday night for a late night feed with my other half. I 'd had a massive lunch so wasn 't actually that hungry, but the S.O. was starving and suggested Taco Mazama as a nice alternative to a greasy takeaway! I 'd been in the Taco Mazama inside Central Station before but was left a bit unimpressed by the standard of service I 'd received, although the food was nice. I 'm happy to say the Renfield St shop was different! I opted for a small quesadilla filled with chipotle shredded tofu, cheddar cheese (duh), caramelised onions and jalapenos which came to £4.50. S.O. got the fajita filled with beef and chorizo chilli and it was the more enormous thing I 've ever seen! The server ripped the first tortilla because it was packed so full! We took away and ate once we were home and I loved it. S.O. said his fajita was too beany but he 's a notorious fusspot! I got the roast tomato and chipotle salsa to dip my quesadilla in and it was nice and spicy! I think next time though I 'll ask for a side order of sour cream because my mouth was on fire by the time I was finished! The staff were super nice in the store. I asked the server to talk me through using the Swipii machine because I hadn 't used my Swipii card before. Turns out she hadn 't either but was kind enough to stand and go through it with me. I really liked the vibe in the shop and liked that they have the allergens menu on the wall for you to look at. I hadn 't realised how many veggie options were on offer before, and I think I 'll definitely be back for more. There 's not many seats in the shop, but I 'd like to sit in on my next visit also. I 'd like to add I got a quesadilla once from Pinto (a place I actually really liked) and it was such a disappointment. I honestly was devastated by how terrible it was because I 'd been looking forward to it all day, and I 've not been back to Pinto since! I think Taco Mazama will be my go to place for fast mexifood now!"

"Sometimes I am hesitant about eating at Nando 's as I feel it 's a bet against whether I will be satisfied or not. I don 't know why that is! Maybe it is because it is a franchise, although I have never had a bad experience at a Nando 's restaurant. Nonetheless, I was a fool to be hesitant! Yummy Chicken! Going to the gym straight after work, I felt like I needed some food straight afterwards and a friend of mine often says: a chicken wrap is the perfect post-workout snack. So having this in my head and knowing there was a Nando 's only a minute 's walk from the gym, we decided to pop in, and this changed my perception completely! Rather than grabbing food to takeaway, which was the original plan, we decided to sit in and order. What can I say; I was more than satisfied with the decision. I ordered the Butterfly Burger with the hot sauce marinade and fries. It was a great portion size and the chicken (two chicken breasts! was nice and thick and perfectly cooked; the hot sauce gave the food an incredible kick! The chicken came on a Portuguese roll , which resemble a tough bun, and lettuce and a slice of a large tomato. With my fries, I had the extra hot sauce to dip. Very nice! My only critique was that the fries were lukewarm, but not exactly devastating. My girlfriend had the super food Quinoa Salad with Chicken Breast fillet. She loved it! Again it was a great portion size and she said it was one of the best salad 's she 's had in the UK; and this is a girl that frequents the German salad restaurant Dean David 's on a regular basis, so she knows a good salad, when she 's presented with one. The only issue she had was the lack of Avocado in the salad, but this was easily resolved by talking to the kitchen and she got extra Avocado slices on the side. I even added a bit of Avocado to my dish, and it added something extra to my burger. Tasty! It was around 19:00 on a Wednesday night when we visited and the restaurant was just starting to fill up, quiet at first so ordering wasn 't an issue and the food arrived quite quickly. This Nando 's can be a little drafty when the door is opened due to the open plan layout, but moving tables was fine. The price was mid-range, which is normal for the city centre, and the quality is definitely worth it. We paid around £20 for food. I was extremely happy with the food, and I can now say that there is no reason to doubt the quality of the food here, and I may just visit again for a post-workout snack ."
