Fresh slices of raw fish, served with tangy dipping sauces and garnished with shredded daikon and wasabi for a flavorful experience.

"Booked Koji for a date night, same day 30/08/23 but when I arrived the restaurant was closed, no notice online at all said it was closed even Google said it was open usual hours somehow it was actually booked for 06/09/23 which I don’t understand how but ok I’ll take partial blame for that, so we unfortunately had to go to eat somewhere else which was fine but I had tried to call the restaurant to cancel my reservation on multiple days didn’t get no answer so I thought nothing of it (you can book online but can’t cancel online even by text they tell you that) so I was then charged £70 on 10/09/23 for I guess missing my booking? Which also online it says nothing about charges for missing reservations. I find this extremely distasteful considering I had tried multiple times to cancel my reservation, was told online that the restaurant was open when it clearly wasn’t was somehow forced to book a date I definitely didn’t wish to attend (I still don’t see how as the dates are completely different and would be easily noticeable whilst booking that it was the wrong date) extremely poor online booking service considering and I’d say £70 is a lot just for a reservation (which I had tried to cancel with no success) complete money grab, I’ll take slight blame for booking the wrong date but definitely a terrible service as they gave me no chance to cancel mislead me saying the restaurant was open on a day it wasn’t which was a waste of time and money as we had come from Streatham just to try Koji"

"When we first walked in our expectations were high the place was beautiful and looked promising we were promptly told we only had 10 mins to order due to it being late so we quickly chose our dishes and than waited 45 min for our food. The food was ... to put it lightly not good . I ordered beef with chili sauce what I got was boiled beef swimming in oil water and chili it had no taste and was not good at all. My husband got the steak with honey sauce (I can't remember the names exactly and it tasted good but his portion was so small a toddler could eat it. We also got spring rolls that were so dry and tasteless a part of me feels because we came and hour before closing they rushed our food and that's why it was so bad but i won't be going back to find out"

"What a beautiful Japanese culinary experience! I started with edamame, spinach sesame, chicken gyoza, Japanese omelette, and inari, all of which were perfect and delicious. The spicy salmon, tuna fish avocado, and shrimp tempura were also excellent. I couldn't pick a favorite because everything was so tasty with fresh seafood. Service was quick and attentive. For my main course, I had chicken katsu with rice and teriyaki chicken donburi. The katsu was perfectly fried and one of my favorites, while the donburi brought me the authentic flavors of Japan. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with great food and hospitality. I will definitely be visiting again!"

"We have been to Japan many times and this was our first visit to Kicho. (Almost) everything worked for us here. Food/ambience/service: everything is absolutely authentically Japanese, reduced to the essentials and as far away as possible from the hip Thai/Wok/Sushi/Fusion restaurants, where the main focus is often on Instagram-friendly presentation and a lack of quality under dry ice. Steam and the sushi is buried under thick sauces. The only point of criticism: the daily dessert on the menu was frozen, which was a bit of a shame considering the rest of the quality."

"There are many good Japanese restaurants in London (Chisou, Sakagura, Roka, Murakami, Sosharu, etc) I don't consider Kiri one of them. Kiri's menu items are priced similar to other restaurants but the standard is much lower. The quality of sushi at Kiri was poorer (sinewy and chewy), service was poor even though the restaurant wasn't busy on our visit. Our fairly light, quick meal for two (with a cocktail each and a glass of sochu each) came to £140.00. This seemed very over priced for the food and poor dining experience we had. I wouldn't recommend Kiri and I won't be returning."

"Myself and my husband ate here to kick off our honeymoon. The food in Sakanas was absolutely incredible! We had the beef teriyaki and Korean steak gambi with jasmine rice, and both were gorgeous. Steak was melt in the mouth, incredible flavour and filling. Not the cheapest but well worth what you pay. Nice atmosphere, could have done with some air con as it was very hot in there! The only criticism we had was that the guy serving our table had zero customer service skills. We didn’t get a name but he was the tall server with his hair up in a top knot. No check back to see how our food was, zero conversation, came across as pretty rude and didn’t bother asking if we’d enjoyed the food. It was a shame as some of the other servers were really friendly but we didn’t tip because of his service. Otherwise, lovely meal out! Would definitely recommend for the food itself."

"What an incredible experience, we went to the Teppanyaki dinner with 2 other couples so we made up half the table but there were couples as well all sat on a large square horseshoe table, if that makes sense, with a chef in the centre cooking on a large grill. You ordered exactly what you wanted and the accuracy and quality of cooking was amazing. Add the theatre of the chef with his comedy antics and juggling skills including audience participation made it a dining experience second to none. If you want a romantic quiet dinner, its not the place but if you want a unique dining experience with high quality food and wine then give it a go, you won't regret it."

"This sushi restaurant is one of the best in town. It has an authentic, cozy and warm atmosphere with great attention to detail. The prices are very reasonable and you can tell the chefs take pride in their work. The waitress was friendly and attentive with a smile. Overall, I would rate this restaurant 10/10 and it will definitely be my go-to spot for sushi from now on. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5."

"I cannot recommend this place enough. Me and my fiancé actually came here on our 1st date, so of course 1yr later we had to return as we loved it so much. If you want top quality but affordable sushi this is the place to go to. Our bill came upto nearly £100 this included drinks as well. Really cute and chilled place, the staff are helpful and friendly. You don't have to wait long for the food. I would say though that the tables are not big enough to fit multiple things on there once you have your drinks there, condiments and 2 plates its already tight. So we only ordered 2 dishes at a time and took breaks. If you like to eat alot like we do then save it for a special occasion as £100 isn't just a normal day expenses, but if you are a 2,3 plates kind of person it is a lovely place to go for a meal. An example of costing we ordered a pink lady (8pcs) £12.95 for top quality sushi that is value for money. Can't wait to go next year for our 2 year anniversary!"

"I enjoyed Umu. My experience of Sushi to date has been primarily high street chains so I was keen to see and taste what difference a top notch Sushi restaurant could make. I wasn’t disappointed. The food is of the highest quality and immaculately presented. The restaurant itself is quiet and quite intimate and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Two reasons for not giving it 5 stars though. One was the building work going on next door which made it impossible to hear each other. To their credit they did go and have a word and it stopped after 10 minutes. The bigger issue though was the price. We did have the taster menu and the wine flight but the total bill was £2200 for 4 of us. Good though the food was, I don’t feel the price was justified."

"Having been satisfied with Oblix West many times, we wanted to spend my partner 's birthday indulging the Afternoon Tea at Oblix East. Unfortunately, the food quality is underwhelming the desserts are too sweet most importantly despite our booking being for 2h, we were asked to leave after 1.5h, due to change in their booking system for all new bookings from 2h to 1.5h this does not seem to be true as the website still shows all new future bookings being for 2h. 1.5h felt very rushed given the level of swetness of food. Quite a shame this side of Oblix could not maintain its standard."

"My family of five dined at Kouzu while on vacation. Each of us felt a very strange vibe at Kouzu. We were seated in a corner of the first level by a woman who then took our drink orders. There was only one or two other tables filled. My son ordered a soda—a coke. She said they didn’t serve any soda in the restaurant. Really? So he instead ordered a water. She proceeded to bring a large bottle of water that she opened in front of us. I asked what it was—that he wanted just a tap water in place of the soda they didn’t carry. The server then left the table. Another gentlemen came around and sort of took over. I asked him why they didn’t carry any other drinks except water—he said oh we have lemonade coke, Diet Coke etc. The next strange thing was the menu. They gave us ample time with the menu and when they came to take our order I asked what a certain thing was—he said oh that’s a priz five menu that’s different! This menu has never been passed out to us. This was a sushi restaurant and what is nice—and needed quite honestly—is a rundown of each item as it’s placed on the table, as the majority of us ordered a la carte. This didn’t happen. I will say the food itself was delicious, however, the strange vibe we got coupled with the sizable price tag would deter me from patronizing this restaurant again if given the chance."
"The story: Two weeks prior, peeking through the restaurant window, I was intrigued to see the kitchen artizans hard at work creating sushi platters that looked vibrant but also elegant. On the 14th November at lunchtime, I was looking forward to trying Kibou as Japanese cuisine is one of my favourites. It's very hard to see the same level of unique variety that Kibou has compared to the few Japanese restaurants I am local to. We wanted to try an array of items and the mini seasonal menu had just been released in time for our visit as well. The food: The Jo Moriawase and New Style Sashimi were great introductions to the first impressions of the quality and range of the dishes available as they were the assortment dishes. Our server provided us with guidance on what we should try first on the Jo Moriawase in order to prevent ending up with eating soggy nori which we appreciated. The Black Cod Nigiri is nothing I have ever tried before so this was also an interesting experience for our tastebuds. My dad has a tough palate to appease but to my surprise, he was satisfied with the Spider Roll Temaki and Chashu Ramen (he thought the pork broth could have been less strong but nonetheless still enjoyed, not like the artificial flavourings you get in an instant ramen if you know what I mean). The Chirashizushi was great for me as I love my sashimi. I didn't realise the yellow portions were actually tamago/egg roll until I tasted it. Some sort of gastronomical wizardry? My mum really lavished the Yaki Udon textures, with the udon noodles having the right amount of nudge needed to chew and biting into the nice crispy outer layer of the tofu. My only regret is not having enough room to try the desserts. Overall, a unique adventure for the tastebuds! The price: If you are extremely budget conscious, perhaps I would not be able to recommend Kibou to you. For a family of three, we were about £40-50 per person. As of my visit, the service charge is 10%. Don't get me wrong though, I think the service charge is fair and reasonable because our experience with the staff we talked to and came by our table were lovely. The atmosphere: Family-friendly but also evening bar feel. Sakura Cherry Blossom and other Japanese-related art themes run throughout the restaurant. The service: We didn't have to wait very long to be seated or served. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The kitchen staff did an amazing job with the food. Would I come again?: Yes, as a treat! Plus I want to try the dessert next time! :"

"Saw the new Bento location open recently on Lothian Road, next to the Greggs. I’d never tried the Southbridge location before but the new one is close to my workplace. Same layout as the older location with food displayed on the left hand side, counter at the back and a few tables on the right side. The main door is really heavy to open. The food seems like it may have sat out under heat lamps for a while. I was wary of the quality of the raw fish so avoided the sushi and sashimi. I opted for an unagi rice bowl which seemed like a decent sized portion. The bowl is deceptive and not as deep as it looks. The rice was barely warm and the unagi (eel) drenched in sauce. There was a weird side of vegetables which looked very much like frozen mixed veg (corn, peas and carrots). Why these vegetables were included in a supposedly Japanese dish I don’t know... The sauce was very sweet and off putting, and because it was on everything I couldn’t finish the dish. Currently doing 20% off at the new location until 6th December as part of their opening offer. My unagi rice would have been around £10 without discount, but I paid £7.96 with the 20% off. I feel like what I received was not worth the money and the quality was not good at all. Thankful I didn’t buy anything full price here give it a miss!"

"The venue is lovely, the music was great and the food was exceptional, however we had a few issues with the service. Firstly, our waiter disappeared after bringing us some of our food and never came back. When I queried it with another member of staff (after waving wildly several times at other staff), he laughed and said oh well you have a new one now . For the prices you pay in a premium venue, this is not good enough. I would have expected a handover before he left. I made him reduce the standard tip from 15% to less than that, as I was not impressed. Secondly, he failed to mention that if you order 4 or 5 things, they all come at the same time and don 't fit on the table, so they nearly knocked our wine off the table trying to squeeze everything in. I would have ordered in batches of 2-3 things if I had been alerted. Lastly, the chairs are also extremely uncomfortable, but when I asked for a small cushion, they didn 't have anything available."

"A truly mesmerising dining experience. Me and a group of 8 others came here for a birthday meal and we can all honestly say it was outstanding! From the cocktails to the service to the food. It really lives up to Gordon Ramsay’s deserved title we expected nothing less ! We ordered to the staffs recommendations to ensure we got the best of the best of what lucky cat had to offer. A really authentic classy atmosphere. The flower arrangement on the outside really sets mood from the start. My recommendation food wise would be the JFC chicken, the lamb chops and the fried rice. cannot recommend the fried rice enough ! It was such a simple dish done extremely well, I didn’t know rice could be anymore delicious! The cocktails were very smooth and you can tell they are made with the finest alcohols. Overall 10 10 and 5 full stars"

"So, recently, possibly the worst thing ever happened. When you hear what it is you'll know how sheltered my life has been. Also just how dramatic I can be. I developed an intolerance to latex fruits...NOOOOOOOOOOO! Ok, so it's not that bad but unfortunately avocados fall into this category. This is why, last Tuesday, in the kitschy surroundings I see in most Edinburgh sushi places, I could be found picking every last piece of avocado out of my meal with chopsticks. It was in everything except my noodles. I started with a green tea and the salad and prawn spring rolls, they were delicious, really fresh and cold in a rice paper round. Difficult to eat though! My first one burst out over the table! Luckily this warned me there was avocado in it so I was thankful I'd made such a fool of myself. For mains I had the breaded pork noodles. Honestly, I wasn't sure if it was pork or chicken which worried me slightly. But the noodles were fantastic and the broth delicious. Lucky for me, one of our party couldn't finish her tuna maki and prawn sushi rolls SCORE! I laid into them, looking like an absolute pig in the process. And then dessert, because there's always room for dessert, black sesame ice cream. Amazing. I'm partial to brown bread ice cream and the texture is very similar but with a subtle sesame taste it was the perfect way to end the meal. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side and there was no coffee. The service here was excellent, though possibly slightly over bearing. It's a small place so they go for quick turnover. The waitresses are always close at hand and keep your glasses full but they also take your plates away immediately and this means the meal is less relaxed and more hastened. As we were interviewing a potential new employee during the meal it wasn't the perfect setting and felt a bit rushed. 5 people, 3 courses, 90 minutes. The toilet is weird, I felt like I was walking up to a pedestal. Overall I enjoyed the meal but wasn't taken by the surroundings."
"so I needed a quick pick me up after a ...not so great weekend...so I tapped in sushi into the yelp search engine and it brought me here... I would say every Yo Sushi I have been to are all the same...which is a good thing...staff are very attentive...this helps having a button at your table which signals for them to come over...and the menu is plentiful.. I personally love the sashimi ..so I ordered lots of this at once..and grabbed a grey £5 plate full of different types of salmon ..it is better value of money to get the grey plates because if you order maki, nigri and sashimi it would cost you more than £5... This was washed down with hot sake which tastes better heated ..the sake menu is not extensive..offering only two types...but hey what do you expect from a chain... I personally felt quite comfortable having my solo sushi feast,,because I admit when I go for sushi I am not sociable...to talk would give me less time to stuff my face with maki... Overall a very tidy, good atmosphere place to be....you just have to be careful counting the plates as you go along...as Yo sushi is not the most cheapest of places in comparison to such places as Wasabi....and it can be easy to get carried away.."

"Friendly staff, a nice take on traditional Japanese fare. There’s no pressure to eat a full meal, even at lunch time (some students dropped by ate only dessert specials), a nice approach. The edamame beans are delicious, the pork donburi very filling! I suspect the miso soup is made to cater for vegans, it doesn’t have the fatty richness of genuine miso broth made from pork bones; the rice in our dishes was not sticky as it would be in Japan, which made eating it with chopsticks more difficult. Slightly disappointing as Chef appeared to be Japanese! The guys found the chicken teriyaki less filling than my donburi, the chicken udon noodles was enjoyed. The Takoyaki (octupus balls) were the star of the show, tasty representative of the real McCoy! Reasonably priced fast service. One to return to."

"I highly recommend Miyako and will certainly return. I'm not fond of sushi but that was not an issue as the menu had plenty of alternative options. The food was really tasty, good-sized portions and the service warm, friendly and efficient. It's quite a small restaurant so I would recommend booking in advance."
