"Stopped coming here a year ago because of many issues, but reluctantly retuned early June to find the place had transformed back to what i remembered from years gone. Warm and welcoming with a lovely atmosphere. Everything was a plus the staff were so friendly one Emily in particular. We as a family thought new owners had taken over. As the management seemed different and to be fair the food was amazing. and despite the cost this was a treat that was truly worth it. We all couldn't wait to return. However fast forward a few months we all returned as a group to be so disappointed in the whole experience. The atmosphere we loved seemed to have disappeared and the feeling of warmth had gone. service was average but the food was so below par. we decided to ask why this had happened but was met by rudeness on a great scale by a young man claiming to be the assistant. Who claimed no one else had complained so what was the problem. No apology at all. We were goin to ask for a full refund but my wife decided to leave as she was too upset. The Manager came out as we left. too late if me and my whole party were concerned. I'm sure he was the Chef before, Perhaps he should return to the kitchen. This has always been considered a treat at the bunk what with the cost of living crisis. But myself and my friends will now spend our money somewhere else where you can get real value for money where people know what customer service and standards really are and your given that feeling that you would love to return. Here none of us will return and hope this review and experience may help others when thinking of treating themselves or using those extra pennies that are precious. Have no idea what is goin on here what a disaster. We all felt Cheated."

"Me and my boyfriend went for our 5th year anniversary meal. They messed our booking up as we had to cancel our first booking but they were under different email addresses and we were told they had sorted it. We arrived to a woman who eventually gave us a table after we had tried to explain they had cancelled the wrong booking even though I had emailed from a different email address and they had confirmed the previous one has been cancelled the day before we made the second booking, she still told us it wasn’t the restaurant fault and we weren’t bothered as accidents happen… The food was average at best, nothing special what so ever, I got the fish and chips and the fish was extremely greasy and I found some black plastic in my fish, however I did not complain as I have good manners and didn’t want to cause an issue as we were there for a celebration. My boyfriend has allergies and could not eat coleslaw so we asked for it to be removed…his burger arrived with coleslaw inside!!! Luckily I had realised and warned him before something serious happened and we asked for a replacement which took 15 minutes! I had almost finished my meal by that point. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding and it was completely dry inside, I was struggling to get my spoon through it and we did not finish it. The cocktail and beer was average and overpriced. Paid for a coke, came in a small glass with more ice than anything and wasn’t even half a can. The most strange thing was that when we asked for the service charge of £8 to be removed…a very old woman with short hair and large glasses and clearly a temper issue came over and spoke to us horribly and questioned why we had asked for it to be removed. I told her the fish I got was very greasy and the cake was very dry, she did not like my honest reply and started to raise her voice which was very unprofessional, I was so shocked with her tone of voice and then she of all people asked us to leave when we refused to pay the service charge and I told her it was discretionary as it said on the menu. Disgusting treatment from what I’m assuming is the manager and I’ve seen other reviews now that have complained about the same woman. Honestly so disappointing as we went for a celebration and someone had to ruin a nice day for us, hope she gets some help with herself or finds a job more suited to her hopefully away from members of the public. "At the bar, drinks were being poured and the girl mentioned that the cocktail would take a while to be brought to the table. There were a total of 9 people in the bar/lounge area with three servers. After 15 minutes, I noticed the bartender folding napkins and asked for the cocktail. He gestured towards the bar where the girl had been standing before serving other customers. The bartender seemed disinterested and gave me a look as if to say, "How dare you ask?" In the restaurant, which had 5 dining tables, my daughter requested a Hendrick's gin and tonic but the server had never heard of it. She suggested a Bombay Sapphire instead, but they were out of that too. My wife asked for black pepper, but the server claimed they only had white pepper in the shaker on the table. Midway through the meal, the restaurant managers ran by and inquired about the missing black pepper. Eventually, a server brought a pepper pot to the table and mentioned that it took so long because they didn't know how to open it, but it turned out to be a pepper grinder. Despite the food being good and the service friendly, the staff seemed to have no idea what they were doing. This particular location, the Marriot Highcliff Hotel in Bournemouth, does not live up to the standards of the Marriot Group. It lacked a sense of responsibility and interest, giving off a poor impression overall. A bizarre and disappointing experience."
