"Popped in here for lunch on a Sunday. The place was so quiet which was sad as it was such a great find (but good if the sun is out and then you are guaranteed a seat outside The waitress told us that during the week the place is heaving so the weekend is the best bet for some relaxation there. The food was very good. I tried the albondigas (which were lamb with a small bit of mint) in a rich tomato sauce. Also had chicken croquettas which were lovely with a rich creamy texture. The pimentos del Padron were excellent, with the obligatory in being a scorcher. I also had grilled chorizo which was tasty with the right amount of saltiness. The tortilla espanola was excellent, cold, as it should be, with chunky pieces of potato it was prepared in the morning, as it should be, leaving time for the flavours to strenghten although it did need a bit of salt. The wine list was excellent. I had a summery glass of tempranillo rose. The only reason why I haven't given a five star rating to this was because the albondigas were not as warm as they could have been and the bread was a tad stale. But these were minor things and overall the meal was outstanding. The service was excellent and we sent our compliments to the chef who apparently was one of the founders of Moro down the road. The bill came to around per head for lunch which included one glass of wine. A bit of the expensive side but there was so much to try and we went for it. Left the restaurant feeling stuffed and highly satisfied. I will be back!"

"Very disappointed. We have been going to this restaurant for many years (including under the previous ownership before they moved back to Madrid . I booked a table online for a wedding anniversary and mentioned this again when I received a call back to confirm the booking. My exact words were 'please could I have a quiet romantic table for 2 '. I wanted to book for 7pm but was told that nothing was available until 8pm so we agreed to the later booking. We turned up just before 8pm and as soon as we walked in we were 'hit ' with the volume of noise from a table of around 14 16 young girls. They weren 't just talking, they were shouting! The waitress tried to sit us at a table directly behind this group of girls and we had to ask to be moved further towards the corner of the restaurant. Obviously my request for a quiet romantic table was totally ignored. We decide to 'tough it out ' and ordered drinks but within minutes, the noise level had reached a point where we couldn 't hear ourselves speak. We left our table and told the waitress we were leaving (and could we have our £20 deposit back oh yes, they ask you to pay this when booking! . Rather than receiving an apology, the staff really didn 't care at all we even paid for our drinks we had barely touched! Note to the owner 1. if you 're going to book in large noisy groups then please put them on the back wall of the restaurant away from other diners. 2. When people make bookings and ask for a 'quiet table ' at least let them know that there are 'large groups ' booked in and that it could get noisy. 3. Tell your staff that without customers, you don 't have a business! Treat customers with a bit more respect!!! Having recently returned from Andalucia and having experienced great service and fabulous food from all the restaurants we visited, it 's a shame that this restaurant can 't look after customers in the same way. No more referrals to friends from me I 'm afraid. You need to take note."

"Within the impressive Devonshire Dome building in Buxton is a restaurant run by students from a local university and college that promises fine dining at bargain prices. We have a point of reference with this type of establishment having eaten a couple of times at the brilliant Atrium restaurant (run by students at Birmingham’s College of Food), so we arrived with high hopes that it would match the experiences we have had there. Unfortunately it did not quite meet our expectations as there were a lot of small mistakes that kept adding up to a slightly disappointing meal. For starters we both had the squid, anchovy and courgette salad, a dish that was pleasant without being delicious and could have benefitted from being served warm rather than cold. Between courses there was a snack of cheddar and gruyère beignets, which was tasty if you are a fan of cheese. The mains courses we had were pretty much the same in that they were good without being special because of a few minor flaws. The chicken supreme had moist well-cooked chicken which was under seasoned. The red wine sauce was flavoursome but the pastry was too thick on the red onion tartlet. The lamb rump was to be served pink but came medium-well. The Pomme Anna was great but the mint sauce over powered everything else on the plate. For dessert we had a pretty good cherry tart with supposedly cherry ripple ice cream, although it was lacking in ripple, and the rice pudding which was disappointing, particularly as we wanted the chocolate pot but was told it had run out and then watched it be served to customers who arrived after us. However, because of what happened with the chocolate pot the staff didn’t charge us for our bottle of wine, which meant the meal and wine cost us £24. We were promised fine dining at bargain price and while we would contest their definition of fine dining it was most definitely a bargain and in that sense we didn’t leave too unhappy."
