"After making a reservation, we called ahead to confirm everything was in order, as one of our guests had allergies. However, when we arrived at the restaurant on the day of our reservation, they were unaware of our booking or the allergies. As a result, we were only able to order three afternoon teas and one salad, as the restaurant was unable to accommodate our lactose intolerant friend. This was my first disappointing afternoon tea experience."

"Everyone had a great dining experience, which was enhanced by the friendly and efficient waitstaff. While the menu was somewhat limited, there was still something for everyone to enjoy. The prices were reasonable, especially considering that bar prices were not excessively marked up like in some hotel restaurants."

"I took my daughter for afternoon tea at Woburn Place on a Saturday afternoon and the first surprise was that the restaurant was completely empty. Sadly it made what should be either an elegant or cosy occasion a little soulless. The afternoon tea itself was ok except that for the two of us there were three “finger” sandwiches with three different fillings (9 “fingers” in all). The fillings were fairly standard but all the bread was white and didn’t seem to be particularly good quality. The cakes were rather nice and unusual with small triangles of cheesecake. The scones were lovely and crumbly. Good choice of coffees and teas. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I think if they had seated us in the lounge bar area, which we saw other people directed to, it would have been a nicer experience."

"I made a reservation for my husband's 60th birthday at the Fig restaurant, specifically requesting a nice table. I called twice to confirm. However, upon arrival, we were informed that the restaurant was closed for a private function and were seated behind the noisy bar instead. The bartender was throwing empties into a bin, which was very distracting. This was not the experience I had booked or was willing to pay for. We decided to leave without even sitting down. I called the Duty manager, who promised to look into the matter, but I am still waiting for a response."

"The service at this restaurant was not great. Nobody seemed to be looking after us or understanding why we were there, even though we had clearly mentioned that we were there for afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday. We were initially served standard tea bag tea upon arrival, and had to specifically ask our waiter for the loose leaf tea option for our afternoon tea. The bread on the sandwiches appeared to be a bit hard on the outside and did not seem freshly prepared."
