"Firstly I would like to say that this restaurant has just been refurbished, and it didn’t feel like an Italian restaurant, more like a cafe at the beach somewhere! It felt very sparse and most Italian restaurants I e been to have proper tablecloths on the table but these were plastic and I noticed one table it was tapped up underneath, in my opinion it needs to be made more warmly and have more of a family feel. The food was really nice, although I would advise anyone to make sure they double check their order as I chose chicken in a sauce really nice which came with vegetables but I also asked for a separate portion of potatoes, when it arrived I just had chicken with a few cut up potatoes and a very very small garnish of salad ! I mentioned this to the waitress who had taken our order and she said I know but the chef had given you extra salad !! Sorry but salad is not vegetables , it clearly said on the menu it came with vegetables. Having said about the above issue, the meals we all had were nice and the staff gave us a very warm welcome and because of the blip they said we could have a free pudding…..not sure if we all did or it was just mine but I never see the bill as we were treated to this. To finish the evening off we were given a lovely limoncello shot. We would definitely go back. Thankyou for a lovely evening in your restaurant"

"The venue, food, service, value and portions are all 10/10. I absolutely love the whole vibe of this restaurant, it feels so authentic and the staff are all so lovely. My first encounter here was a first date back in 2015; we have visited many times since but to point out a few special ones, we returned to celebrated our pregnancy news, our engagement and then most recently when that date became my husband, we came back to Sorrentina with our family to celebrate our wedding day. The organisation for our party of 25 was impeccable, the food all came out in a structured and timely manner. The quality of the food was incredible as it always is fresh, authentic Italian food cooked to perfection Sorrentina is the perfect little spot for a romantic dinner, a family meal or a larger party meal. Sentimental feelings aside, I truly cannot fault it in any way. Needless to say we’ll be back! But more importantly, the feedback from our 20+ guests that hadn’t been here before was that they all really enjoyed the food, the staff were lovely and that they’d definitely return. Some have even gone and recommended it to their friends and families local people supporting a small local business! A humongous thank you to Tony, Emilio, Adriano and all the rest of the lovely staff, there wasn’t any other place we’d have wanted to spend our day."

"Booked afternoon tea for me and a friend after looking at several excellent trip advisor reviews (I should have read more! . We paid £32.95 each plus £8.95 each for small bottle (one glass size of Prosecco We thought from the menu that we would get a variety of sandwiches but only got a choice of 1 each (2 fillings had a supplementary charge . When the food arrived we were soooo disappointed. The sandwiches were incredibly ordinary. No fancy bread or cut nicely. The ‘home made’ cakes on top were visually boring. A couple of fairy cakes with watery icing and 2 pieces of very small millionaires shortbread that looked ‘old’. The scones however looked and tasted lovely. And 2 teacups with very small portions of Eton mess were also nice. There was absolutely NOTHING special that warranted such a huge price! Nothing at all. We asked for the cakes to be boxed up and we ate them on our train journey home. The fairy cake was just ok and the millionaires shortbread did indeed taste old. On the way back to the train station we called at another place (Mama Doreen’s emporium for a drink and the afternoon teas that they were serving were incredible. We found out they were £25 each ! I don’t believe in posting a bad review on here without making the place aware first. I’ve sent them a message but had no reply. Hence I have no qualms posting this review."

"It was a quiet Monday night as we rolled up to Al Dente on Easter Road, a tiny Italian restaurant that sits unassumingly half-way down Easter Road. You’re instantly drawn to the Ospitalia Italiana gold award proudly stamped into its façade; in my experience, these less glamourous eateries always turn out to be a winner. There’s an open kitchen, and chef/owner Graziano is gabbing away in his native tongue to a friend. On entering, he is swiftly out to greet us, alongside our waitress for the evening. The Italian excitedly takes us through today’s specials and retreats back behind the stove. My starter tonight is warm-baked Apulian potato tart with cured meat and mozzarella £5.30), with Sarah going for ‘Sautee de pesce’ priced at £6.80. The dining room is immediately awash with the wonderful aromas of garlic and white wine, and with one large breath drawn in, Sarah boldly states “Mmmm, it doesn’t get better than that”. She might be right. Her dish comes out first and I was glad to see just a simple plate of mussels, calamari, prawns, clams, and a decent chunk of good bread to soak us those juices. The last time we ordered this in a restaurant the shellfish were full of grit; thankfully, this chef has given his produce the respect it deserves, and that respect extends to the cooking of it – simple, but effective, the way it should be. My dish was equally as good: quality ham, gooey cheese, crunchy top and potatoes with a slight bite to them – a dish most suited to this cold winter evening. Another couple of Italian gentlemen entered the restaurant and the banter between chef and customer flowed. It’s a definite indicator of authenticity when fellow countrymen dine in such restaurants, and a far cry from the more generic offerings that lie over on Leith Walk. I opted for one of the specials in the form of pork loin with gorgonzola, honey, and roasted vegetables £14.80). This plate is never going to win any awards for presentation, but its rusticity wasn’t without"
