"Great food, haven't been in for many many years. Called in as passing on a Friday evening and very busy with must tracked full, but they squeezed us in. Staff all lovely and working very hard. Food was delicious! My 9yr old asked if it was possible to just have a poached egg as a starter and they accommodated her request "

"Food was of very low quality. Chips had been re-fried at least twice and were rock solid and full of grease. The steak was like rubber. 9 of us went, not one of us had anything good to say about the food apart from 1 that had a hot pot which was ok. Maybe it was a one off, maybe not. "I was a little sceptical when I saw the menu , having not been to the Star since it was a carvery a few years back. It's definitely changed decor wise and isn't so cosy or focussed on it's history, which was sad to see. Kinda stripped out, with modern floors, fake flowers and mismatching decor to the age of the pub. The menu was the January special and printed in garish layout in magazine paper. BUT... The service was absolutely fantastic. The most polite and friendly staff I've ever encountered. The food was ridiculously cheap. You get what you pay for but it was adequate and good size portions. Deserts were large. £3.50 for diet coke probably is how they make their profits. Plenty of pensioners making the most of the affordable food. Lack of atmosphere slightly due to no fire there any more slightly cold! or any cosy touches. Cutlery bunged in a plastic box. I'd call it functional. And in these times, really spot on with finding a market. It's hard to make a profit in the service industry now and it's a bold and brave move to have such a cheap menu. I would recommend. Largely due to the simple menu and the friendly, polite and wonderful staff."

"I got treated to a delicious 3 course meal here for my birthday and it did not disappoint. It's not easy to find halal French or Mediterranean food in London, so finding this was like hitting the jackpot. The food was delicious, from the Aubergine mille-feuille starter to my main of roasted corn-fed chicken breast with spinach cannelloni, gratin dauphinoise tarragon sauce. And to finish off, the Tarte Tatin was just the perfect end to the meal. I’ve read other people’s mixed reviews of La Sophia,..."

"I stayed here in the motorhome through Britstops and found everyone extremely friendly and helpful with no pressure to frequent the pub for food and drinks. However, when I booked to stay they booked a table for me in case I wanted a meal, which was greatly appreciated as it was extremely busy. The food, service and hospitality was excellent and I would unreservedly recommend it to anyone. We will be returning next week as visiting family and looking forward to staying again. Thank you. Brian."

"My husband and I were staying in our caravans at Poplars Farm in Hulland Ward, near Ashbourne. We visited this pub on Sunday for a drink and were warmly welcomed. We even played darts with the friendly regulars. Last night, on Thursday, we walked over from our caravan, which took 7 minutes. We had drinks and then ordered the blackburgers with black pudding and apples, served with chips and salad. The food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely return when we come back with our caravan. I highly recommend this pub - it was busy even on a Thursday night. A great spot for eating and drinking."

"The ambiance at this location was fantastic, as always the food at Wahaca is delicious! The only downside for me was the high service charge and tax added on top, which I wasn't a fan of. Despite that, the waiter was friendly and polite, though we did have to wait for him to take our order."

"I really enjoyed this pub. We stopped in for drinks on our way to Scotland and then returned a week later for a meal. The atmosphere was very cozy. It was warm on our first visit, so we sat in the garden which was lovely. On our second visit, it was cold so we sat inside with our small dog. This pub is truly Dog Friendly, not just tolerant, which is important to me. The staff were attentive and even brought water for our dog. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly, although I think I got the end of the bag of chips as there weren't many and they were mostly small and crispy. I didn't mention it as it didn't bother me too much. I will say, though, the Carolina Reaper Chicken Wings were extremely spicy! The first one was enough to do me in, I couldn't handle another. Proceed with caution if you dare to try them!"

"Table booking didn't work. Turned up, had to wait about 50 minutes for a table. You need to place your order on a diabolical app that took ages. They forgot a pizza and side had to be reminded and do it from scratch so we didn't eat as a family. Some things ordered were not available but no apologies, just didn't turn up. No mayo, incredible. Having ordered 2 garlic breads, 1 turned up and, when I chased, the woman by the cash desk said they didn't have any garlic bread. Another challenge and it turned up 10 minutes later. Not enough staff, some staff good, others ineffective. Felt like there weren't enough to deal with a full restaurant. The food, when it actually turned up, wasn't bad at all. However, it will be back to takeaway Dominoes and no return visit despite eat out to help out. I'll help someone else out next week and the week after. This isn't just a Coronavirus problem I noticed last year in a different branch that things were going rapidly downhill when they switched from table service to pay at the counter and staff numbers were noticeably fewer. Penny pinching gone badly wrong. No wonder they are under threat of complete corporate insolvency. No wonder some staff look distinctly unhappy to be there."

"A little disappointed in the afternoon tea. The sandwiches had no butter on the bread which were like doorstops, not dainty at all. The sausage rolls, quiche and cakes tasted shop bought, but the wraps were nice and the scones were really lovely. I presumed that refills of tea and coffee would be included in the price but were not. However when I said this to the person serving us she included it in the price. Next time I will choose something from the lunch menu which is always lovely.
