"My sister and I went to this pub today for a late lunch. We ordered food after a long wait for someone to take our order. When the food came, it was over cooked and inedible, particularly my sister’s meal. She spoke to the manageress who was completely disinterested but offered take part of her meal off of the bill. When it came to settling the bill, we said we were not happy that we were paying for any of the food as it was all inedible. My sister asked to speak to the landlord, but he refused to speak to us and sent his manageress who had already made it clear she had no interest. We begrudgingly paid the bill and, on our way out, my sister approached the landlord who was instantly aggressive and refused to enter into any discussion smirking and saying he had more important things to do. Out of frustration, my sister, unfortunately, used some strong language. At which point, the landlord became very threatening, chasing us out and saying things like “See what happens next” and “you haven’t heard the end of this “. He followed us out and repeatedly implied that something bad was going to happen to us. He was so vile that I must admit I am concerned he could try to track us down from my credit card details. I am going to report this to the police in case there is any “payback” for us having the audacity to complain about a terrible meal! In all my years of dining out, I have had some rubbish customer service, but I have never been intimidated and threatened for complaining,"

"Admittedly we were late but I did call ahead and let the restaurant know we were running late, on our way, and would be there shortly. When we got there we were discouraged by our hostess/waitress from actually eating at the restaurant and to instead dine at the pub downstairs, but we insisted on the restaurant as we had seen the menu and booked on that information. There was another table upstairs so we were not the only ones eating yet it is not like the place was full. We were told the kitchen would close at 9:30pm which I thought a bit early, but we had time and put our starters and mains orders in. We also had not one but 2 bottles of fine wine. Our waitress then disappeared for the rest of our meal. When someone did finally show up. we asked for a dessert menu only to be told the kitchen had closed and no more orders would be taken. So where was our waitress? Why didn't she come to ask us if we wanted anything else before the kitchen closed? We were told we could stay and keep on drinking at the table -but also told if we wanted more to drink we could go downstairs to the pub. We asked how late the pub would be open -to know if we should stay or move onto another place. We were told 11:30pm? (yes 11:30pm) so we stayed had another round. The bell rang for last call and after deciding on our order were told that the bar was closed -at 11:03pm. OK, fine, pub rules, but we were told 11:30pm by the staff. It was a disappointing experience as we really felt the staff clearly didn't want to be there working, didn't want us to be there, they didn't want to serve or help us. The food was good, but that is not how we will remember our dinning experience here. And after all that, our bill was over 300 pounds for 3 of us!!! Which we would have no problem paying had we just had better service. And pudding."

"I definitely felt the need to write a review for my stay at Gunmakers, since there are so few that actually reference the lodging provided (most just focused on the pub side of the business). I stayed here on two different instances in September 2023, before heading up north to hike Hadrian's Wall, and again upon my return to London, before flying back home. Overall, both stays were very nice. I stayed in the same room both times, on the top floor. While the views out the window weren't anything special, the room overall was quite comfortable. For meals, if you choose to eat at Gunmakers, you can either go down to the pub or you can call down to place an order and they'll deliver it to your room. The location was perfect, on a quiet side street and well priced for being in Marylebone. There are a couple rail stations that are with easy walking distance. Otherwise, several of the city's landmarks are within easy walking distance, if you're not in a rush, including The British Museum, Buckingham Palace, St. James Park, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and the London Eye. The only thing that was a bit awkward was going to bar and explaining you're there to check in for lodging and not there for food/drink, especially if it's during a busy time for the pub. It might be worth looking into an alternative way to handle this side of the business, but still, it was overall a fairly easy process. Checking out was much smoother all you need to do is drop your room key in a dropbox as you're leaving the building. Overall, I would certainly stay here again the next time I'm in London."
