"The food was rather disappointing, with the exception of the homemade kimchi, which I believe they should consider commercializing if the restaurant doesn’t succeed. The menu offered a strange mix of cuisines that lacked proper representation; for instance, the spicy pork, which is typically thinly sliced and served in a spicy oil on bibimbap, was presented as a slightly peppery char siu instead. Many of the ingredients used were of subpar quality. The cocktails were just average as well. While the service provided by the two servers was excellent, they were overshadowed by the head server, who was slow, strange, and generally ineffective—perhaps the restaurant is understaffed. The ambience was quite pleasant, but the large shared benches made it difficult to navigate getting in and out of tables."

"I was disappointed by the treatment and felt as though the staff, although not blatantly rude, singled us out by giving us wooden utensils although everyone else in the restaurant had metal as well as other small things like not explaining how we order food and placing us right in the back by the toilet although other seating was available. The food is overpriced, the treatment we received was almost certainly racially motivated and I will not actively warning my friends and family that this restaurant or and others make a habit to treat paying customers like less than because we look different. I would have hoped to have experienced a welcoming demeanour as we clearly wanted to experience something different but it just goes to show that these chain restaurants only care about their own and make no effort in welcoming individuals who are new to the cuisine experience. So disappointed, worst customer service and treatment I’ve experienced in years. Absolutely shameful."

"After hearing great things about Yamato, we finally decided to give it a try and I must say, it definitely lived up to the hype! The moment we walked in, we knew it was going to be a great dining experience. The restaurant had a charming decor, with fresh fish on display and a wide range of Sake options to choose from. We tried a mix of dishes we knew we would enjoy and some authentic Japanese cuisine, all of which were fantastic. The crispy sushi roll, made with tuna, avocado, lumpfish caviar, and fried rice, was one of the best I've ever had. The spicy tuna and salmon maki rolls were equally delicious and fresh. The tempura squid was tender with a perfectly crispy batter. The nigiris we ordered - Scottish salmon, bluefin tuna, and scallop - were all incredibly fresh. We also tried the Chawanmushi, which was packed with flavor. For dessert, we had the white sesame ice cream, which was creamy and nutty. We also enjoyed some sake, opting for the Yamato Shizuku. The price was reasonable for the quality and quantity we received. The service was attentive and friendly, with our table constantly being cleared and refreshed with more delicious dishes from Yamato. In my opinion, Yamato is a top contender for the best Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh."

"My experience at E&O was fantastic, everything from the level of service to the food was at the top level. The prawn toast on the specials was unbelievable and something that needs to be on the menu full time. When we finished our meal our waitress reserved a seat at the bar for after our dinner, which was a nice touch. The meal was reasonably priced the only thing that makes the “experience” expensive is the cocktails but that is to be expected in London with £12/14 cocktails bottled beer is £4 which is standard too. We are already planning to visit again."

"Felt a bit clinical. Waitress cared more about her fake eyelashes than answering our questions. Food I got was blend (sushi platter).. the rice didn't even stick to the fish for my rolls.. my teenage daughter got a Korean bowl and it was the spiciest thing I ever tried so she couldn't eat it (would have been nice to know the spice level of the dish, especially for a kid).. we got stuff from the conveyor belt.. not great.. the one thing we really liked was the chocolate Moshi. This restaurant is located in a large mall. Bathrooms are not anywhere near (I had to walk to another floor through the mall to find a ladies room).. a good 4-5 min walk away from the restaurant. Order is all through your phone. The blonde lady who seemed to be in charge was friendly and welcoming. Too bad she disappeared after we sat down. Either way, we won't go back. Not a nice family outing due to the service or the food. Disappointing."

"Attended the ginstronomy night and I am so impressed. It was a four course meal with gin pairing, the theme was Japanese inspired food which was paired with kokoro gin and liqueurs. Our first dish was Tempura tofu in miso broth with soda noodles, edamame and sesame. This was so delicious, very rich and silky texture of the broth and amazing umami and spicy flavour. This came paired with a cherry blossom gin liqueur with pomegranate. 2nd course was charred tuna tataki with pickled asparagus and enoki mushroom. Another amazing dish full of flavour, the tuna was delicate and omg the mushrooms were heavenly! Paired with a refreshing tall cocktail made with blueberry and lemongrass liqueur. Our 3rd dish was Teriyaki lamb cutlets with aubergine and miso paste and crispy noodles. There was so much lamb here and it was blushed to perfection, tender and succelent. This dish arrived with a gin and tonic using the kokoro gin, a very citrus drink. Finally I was wowed again by the dessert. A matcha pannacotta with yuzu and a sesame macadamia. The pannacotta was perfect and so silky and amazing with the macadamia"

"Had the beef tacos to start, very tasty, followed by the prawn burger which was lovely and much lighter than a normal burger. My friend had the lamb shank and I must say, when it arrived, I had extreme food envy. It was apparently as good as it looked so will definitely try that next time. The Vegetarian cauliflower dish also got great reviews from my sister. The only slight disappointment amongst the dishes was the cheesecake, but that's because it was a baked cheesecake which none of us really like. The molten chocolate was divine and the vegan pudding was also very tasty. Staff were lovely and attentive, we were there early so it was pretty empty. Would definitely eat there again."
