"I have visited this church linked café/restaurant many times in the past the most recent being today. I have always had a hot meal whether from the standard menu or the specials board all have been excellent value and very tasty. Today I had the home made steak and kidney pie with new potatoes, carrots and sweet corn and a pot of tea more of this later. The meal was served piping hot and was ample for a lunch I was satisfied but not over full at the end of my meal. Previously I have had a lamb hot pot again home made that appeared on the specials board it was full of lamb and not wishing to repeat myself very tasty. I have never tried the desserts as I find a cooked meal is ample for dinner time so lunch to those with breading. My only criticism is that the tea is too weak the pot is large enough for two tea bags or the quality of the teat needs reviewing. of course it could be partly my fault by putting to much full fat milk in the cup first, I am used to skimmed milk at home. The café is run as a charity organisation, I was introduced to it by a work colleague several years ago and visit when ever I am in Oldham. The serving staff appear to have a mixture of disabilities or learning difficulties but all do their job very well. The café is large, well used so much a so at the normal dinner time 12 to 1.00pm it can be difficult to find a free table. If you want a nice ordinary home cooked meal and are in Oldham seek out this cafe it is tucked away down a narrow cul de sac just off the town centre."

"We knew it would be busy at Lymefield garden centre as they were serving Christmas lunch. Two drop ins were just being turned away at the entrance with very long faces because they forgot to book. (Rookie mistake) our table was waiting for us and we were greeted by the smiling face of Gemma who served us. Now I believe good service is second only to the food in the enjoyment of a meal. Every detail was perfect and I know about these things. At times it seemed a long wait to place our order, ask for something or enquire about the menu but I only had to look up and she was there. It’s not like the staff were nt busy as there was a table of 23 they were looking after. Little touches like being asked what kind of glass we wanted with our drinks is something of a bygone age. You d have to dine at the Ritz to get better service. At one point she was busy with the long table and I thought uh! She’s took her eye off the ball but Yvonne her team mate turned up as if to read my mind with my bowl of steaming rice pudding with winter fruits. Perfect for the coldest day of the year so far. Team work makes the dream work at Lymefield. It was a dream there yesterday. It’s in the most glorious setting . Surrounded by frosted fields the view was like the Christmas cards I d written that morning. My final word must go to the shop. The produce is farm fresh and I am particularly satisfied with the local Alma Bridge honey I purchased . It’s the finest I ve tasted. The clientele are mostly of retirement age as you d expect in the middle of the working week. I don t consider myself old but I am old school and Lymefield is the perfect way to get the seasonal celebrations started."
