"“The Peckham Spring” The heading will become apparent later in this review. On the 22nd September, we had a table booked for 4, it was both couples weeding anniversary’s. We arrived 20mins early to have a drink in the bar. This was the point when we should of left. Ordering 4 drinks from exceptional young an inexperienced staff was a challenge. The drinks took ages to be made (at this point there was only 2 other guests in there). 3 cocktails and a beer, all of the cocktails were spilt by the waitress on serving and were not made correctly. At the table, We ordered wine and still water (bottled). This is where the heading for this review arrives from. This restaurant, (I use that terminology loosely), severs “tap water” in mineral water bottles and chargers £5.00 for it. (Del Boy must be running this joint)! We have been fortunate to have traveled far and wide in this country and abroad and never come across this deceitful act which is inessential fraud and theft. You may ask why do we “assume “ this?, well firstly Ely water has a distinct taste and secondly the bottle was open prior to arriving at the table and they had filled it right to the top! Shame on you Poets House. So on to the food, 4 starters, all below average. 4 mains, that all being sirloin steaks. My “plate of food” was probably the absolute worst dish I have ever had presented in front of me. A side salad straight out of a bag, un washed or dressed, a cold mushroom which wasn’t seasoned or warm, a steak which hadn’t been seared or cooked correctly to medium rare and was completely un edible and wouldn’t cut with a steak knife. This was accompanied with a bucket of chips which was dripping in oil. The only positive part to this review is that the waiter who served us is the only asset this establishment has. I voiced all of this to the said gentleman on the evening, and what was disheartening was that he total agreed with everything we mentioned. The owners, the management and the (cook) (as they don’t have a chef), need to be educated by their waiter if they have any chance of this establishment improving. In conclusion to this review, I strongly advise anyone looking for a decent plate of food to avoid booking the Poets House,Ely."

"Traveling as a vegan isn't always fun. Sometimes, I feel like we miss out on part of the experience because we can't eat what the locals eat. Food is such a big part of experiencing the culture, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel sad sometimes that we have to miss out on things. So, when an establishment like B-Bakery offers an authentic experience like a traditional British cream tea, I'm so, so grateful. This absolutely darling tea shop has it all- fantastic service, unbelievably delicious pastries, and a full-on vegan menu. Our incredible tower included everything from savory finger sandwiches and wraps all the way through perfect mini cupcakes and puddings. Our server greeted us with fresh juice before helping us choose a tea to enjoy. Everything about the experience was remarkable, however, towards the very end was my favorite part... The sandwiches and cake and small bites looked incredibly petite, so as we worked our way up the tower I was not expecting to be so incredibly full! After we licked the decadent frosting of the vanilla cupcake from our fingertips we basked in the afterglow, belly's fully out and completely blissed from our experience... and that's when it happened. Our perfect server came by and asked if we'd like a break before our scones. Say what?! I remember looking at him in shock... THERE'S MORE?! We were full to the brim, and yet, there was more?! He laughed and whisked away our now empty tower, giving us space to contemplate the meaning of life before serving the grand finale. I thought I had scones before, but I will never look at a scone the same way after indulging in B-Bakery's vegan scone. After staring at it for a moment, willing myself to get going, I picked it up and pulled it apart. Steam rose in willowy threads from the center of this fluffy but dense pastry. The vegan spread and jam served alongside it waited at the ready, about to be slathered and melted into it's piping hot center. This scone was proof that there is a good, and he wants us to be happy. Though we were absolutely stuffed, we somehow found room in our tummy's for every last crumb of it. I'm so grateful to establishments like B-Bakery, who make room on their menu's and in their restaurants for vegans to enjoy the same things everyone else gets to. Thank you B-Bakery. I'll take my memory of my first real British cream tea with me to my grave."

"I booked this place as I am looking for a suitable restaurant to celebrate my birthday at. I went on date night here but the service from the beginning until the end was awful. Although pre-booked a table, we had to wait 1 hour to be seated. We were told that they couldn 't just kick people out . We had to wait and stand at the main entrance as there was no where for us to wait inside. Once we sat down, there was no one around to take our orders. We had to flag down the staff just so we could order drinks. We received the incorrect drinks twice. Our food order was taken at the same time we ordered drinks. The staff serving the food and drinks had no clue what table to serve them at. They kept walking around clueless with the beverages in their hands, while asking their colleagues which tables they belonged to. Our main course was served to the wrong table. The staff put our plates down on the table underneath other customer 's noses. This wasn 't ideal as the spikes in Covid-19 have risen and they were breathing germs over our food. The staff didn 't give us fresh plates of food, instead they took our plates from the other customer 's and gave them to us. I noticed the kitchen staff kept repeatedly ringing the bell as the food they cooked was sitting there ready to be served, for a while and the waiting staff weren 't even collecting them to serve them to customers. The host was also serving food and drinks. I actually think they needed more staff. There were other customers who were in the same boat as us and actually waited 2 hours to be seated. The couple next to us also waiting one hour and their food and drinks order wasn 't taken for another 30 mins. Our night was ruined and the restaurant didn 't even offer discount off our bill for the inconvenience. Doubt I 'll be dining here again, especially not for my birthday!!"
