"“The Peckham Spring” The heading will become apparent later in this review. On the 22nd September, we had a table booked for 4, it was both couples weeding anniversary’s. We arrived 20mins early to have a drink in the bar. This was the point when we should of left. Ordering 4 drinks from exceptional young an inexperienced staff was a challenge. The drinks took ages to be made (at this point there was only 2 other guests in there). 3 cocktails and a beer, all of the cocktails were spilt by the waitress on serving and were not made correctly. At the table, We ordered wine and still water (bottled). This is where the heading for this review arrives from. This restaurant, (I use that terminology loosely), severs “tap water” in mineral water bottles and chargers £5.00 for it. (Del Boy must be running this joint)! We have been fortunate to have traveled far and wide in this country and abroad and never come across this deceitful act which is inessential fraud and theft. You may ask why do we “assume “ this?, well firstly Ely water has a distinct taste and secondly the bottle was open prior to arriving at the table and they had filled it right to the top! Shame on you Poets House. So on to the food, 4 starters, all below average. 4 mains, that all being sirloin steaks. My “plate of food” was probably the absolute worst dish I have ever had presented in front of me. A side salad straight out of a bag, un washed or dressed, a cold mushroom which wasn’t seasoned or warm, a steak which hadn’t been seared or cooked correctly to medium rare and was completely un edible and wouldn’t cut with a steak knife. This was accompanied with a bucket of chips which was dripping in oil. The only positive part to this review is that the waiter who served us is the only asset this establishment has. I voiced all of this to the said gentleman on the evening, and what was disheartening was that he total agreed with everything we mentioned. The owners, the management and the (cook) (as they don’t have a chef), need to be educated by their waiter if they have any chance of this establishment improving. In conclusion to this review, I strongly advise anyone looking for a decent plate of food to avoid booking the Poets House,Ely."

We always enjoy dining at The Peots. This time, we had a late lunch which we both really enjoyed. My husband was impressed with his choice of the steak burger from the lunch menu, as he had never tried it before. I had the tapas, which was delicious, and they were able to accommodate my allergies.

I believe that our experience deserves a six-star rating. The service, from the Maître d'hôtel to the excellent waiter, was outstanding. The food was served promptly and cooked beautifully. My steak was cooked perfectly and the bass was amazing. The atmosphere was ideal for a romantic evening. Although we couldn't park at the restaurant, we found parking spaces across the street near the cathedral, so it wasn't an issue.

We had gone to Poets House to book Christmas lunch for a party of 10 friends. We often drop in for coffee and a slice of carrot cake. But on that day, as it was quite near to my Birthday, my husband decided we would stay for lunch. We decide on the 3 course lunch which was excellent. A good selection, cooked to perfection and nicely presented. Very friendly and efficient staff too. Highly recommended !! We now very much looking forward to our Christmas lunch..

We were here for a family birthday for Sunday lunch hoping for something a little special given the prices and menu. The hotel and restaurant are in a beautiful location, opposite the cathedral. The dining room at the front is very well appointed and there is lovely garden at the back. The staff were friendly and helpful. However, the food was rather plain and not very well prepared. It always surprises me when a restaurant serves up hollandaise sauce straight out of a jar, which certainly doesn't do anything to elevate an average piece of poached salmon. The chicken was I'm afraid over cooked and tough. On the plus side the vegetables were good and the desserts were better View menu

I took my mum for afternoon tea here at 1pm in the afternoon. Afternoon tea was okay, but the service really let it down. We were served when we first arrived, and then left to our own devices entirely. I had to go out of the restaurant to the hotel reception to ask for more water and a box at the end of the meal to take the remaining cakes away. We then went through to the bar for a drink, and the experience was ruined by a couple members of staff moaning and speaking poorly of other customers who were still having afternoon tea in the restaurant. We promptly moved outside after that, this hotel/ restaurant is in a lovely setting but as the title of the review suggests, it is let down by th...

We came for a birthday treat of afternoon tea, on arriving we were seated in the garden and our tea was brought out very promptly, we then had to wait approx 20 mins for our sandwich and cake selection to be brought to us by which time we had drunk our tea as it was going cold, which wasn't an issue as we thought we would have the chance to purchase some more or at least get offered some water, but we didn't see anyone else for the whole time we were sat in the garden, when I went to ask if we could have a bag or box to take the 2 remaining scones away with us I was handed a box, the lady didn't ask if everything was okay or even say goodbye ! I would say an average afternoon tea but what re...

We had been looking forward to the Afternoon Tea, a tradition we have enjoyed many times. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet our expectations. We had requested a table in the restaurant when making our reservation, but upon arrival, we were seated at a table set for dinner. The Champagne was mediocre, sandwiches were good, scones were passable (although one was misshapen), the jelly dessert was tasteless, and the cakes were reasonable. The food was served without any explanation, and there was only one small jar of jam for the scones. The service was poor, and we were the only guests in the restaurant. To make matters worse, four staff members were having a work meeting at a nearby... View menu

Staff were nice enough but the dining experience left much to be desired. At breakfast, we waited 30 minutes for the 2 full English breakfasts we ordered. And when they did arrive they hadn't added the extra eggs we asked for. Dinner was even worse. I ordered the chicken while my partner ordered the salmon. But what we received when our food arrived was chicken and seabass. Apparently they had run out of salmon and forgot to tell us. We were already halfway through a bottle of wine at this point, so we asked them to keep my meal warm while they prepare something else for my partner--because I didn't want to eat in front of her while she's hungry--but when we placed our second order we were i...

I think Tripadvisor should allow you one 6* review to give out per year. Our meal here last night deserves more than 5*. We were met be a friendly Maitre D, and decided to have some drinks in the bar first as we were early. We ordered cocktails from an extensive menu. I 'm not a cocktail guy, but seeing a 'Hemmingway ' made from absinth and champagne, I was too curious not to try it. It was an event watching the mixer make it, and of course was incredible. We were led through to the dining room as we finished our drinks. We were there to celebrate an anniversary, and found a beautiful anniversary card from the management on the table. An incredible touch. The waiter was perfect, friendly and...

"a great place in ely. I felt instantly from friendly staff who sit in a beautiful table in the corner, I was so perfect on my own to get fucked away, but I had a good look at everything that went on to keep me occupied. the place is not what I would call instagrammble. they will not find young fashionable people here and it is better for it. it is beautifully decorated, crisp and fresh and feels inviting, more like visiting a friendly house than a stuffy restaurant. the visitors are here to enjoy their evenings with good food and friends, not to make pictures for likes. I enjoyed my bratpork with sweetness. very moist with a lot of crispy cracks. also the last of the heavy, which is always a care in the south. a nice choice. my chocolate mousse was amazing, hadn't had one since brunette. the charges too. with a beautiful coffee. the only thing we left was the starter. only a handful of pouched salad with some tiny pieces of goat cheese and two walnuts. there was a vague drizzling of an art dressing. certainly not worth the price, initially very leave. but everything else was wonderful, plus the suppenings I saw going into other tables looked out and tasted tasty. I must mention the break of the evening. I never felt rushed, everyone had a good break in between, but not as long as I wait. I hate these days, how everything is so eager, pure and out. it was nice to relax and enjoy my food and wine. thanks to many for a real culinary experience. Hopefully if I'm in the opposite I'll visit again and friends this time."
