"The drink options were limited, the bar was lacking in atmosphere, and the service was slow due to a shortage of staff. The dinner at the restaurant was unsatisfactory, with undercooked fries. Even after informing the waitress, no action was taken. The room was dirty and outdated, with an uncomfortable bed, a heavily stained mattress and bedding, and dirty curtains. There was a broken chair in the room. The bathroom was outdated, with a dusty extractor fan that was not functioning, dirty tiles, and moldy bathtub and shower. The toilet flush was faulty, and the walls and ceilings were stained and marked."

The food was cooked and kept warm. I'm glad we didn't eat two at 1:00, as we had booked, we would have eaten that would have been kept warm for an hour.

The food was overcooked and had been left under a heat lamp. Luckily, we dined at 1 o'clock instead of our planned 2 o'clock time, preventing us from receiving food that had been sitting out for an extra hour.

The menu was uninspiring with little choice. The wine list was a waste of time as there was only a small number of wines available. When asked what was available, the waiter replied, red, white or rose. The starters were okay but the mains were only average at best. View menu

Two waitresses who appeared to be clueless in customer service. They served you bread midway through the meal! Carvery food was greasy and over salty not much fun if you’re a diabetic. The word ‘sorry’ did not exist in the restaurant manager’s vocabulary as she made poor excuses. Will not set foot in that place ever again.

very pleasant stay. I've read some of the cripples I had worried. yes, the hotel decoration looks a little tired, but not enough to spoil our joy. staff very friendly and helpful. a light problem was immediately treated. eat very acceptable, apart from the chips that were bright and undercooked and we had a very pleasant stay.

Very pleasant stay. Having read some of the reviews I was worried. Yes the hotel decor looks a bit tired in parts but not enough to spoil our enjoyment. Staff very kind and helpful. A lighting issue was dealt with straight away. Food very acceptable apart from the chips that were pale and undercooked and we had a very enjoyable stay. View menu

I purchased a discounted two-night package and found the overall value to be satisfactory. The food was good, but the decor seemed a little outdated. Our room was delightful, although it appeared that there was a shortage of staff working. Despite this, Charlotte and Jean Paul went the extra mile to ensure that we had a pleasant experience.

Limited drinks, no ambience in the bar, had to wait to be served as there was no one. Dinner at the restaurant was terrible, the Chios undercooked. The waitress said nothing was done. The room was dirty and dated, bed was uncomfortable, mattress and bed linen, heavily stained, so were the curtains, broken chair in the room. Bathroom was very dated, Tge Extractor fan was so dusty it didn't work, tiles were dirty and bathroom and shower mold. The toilet flushing has worked properly. Walls and ceilings stained and marked.

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
