"We are visiting after having a look at a few options, we decided to visit Ambleside fish chip shop. Parking was pretty straightforward as we arrived someone’s was leaving. However, it may be difficult to park during busier times. We arrived approximately 6pm they close at 7pm. The views across the waterfront were just amazing! That was one of the reasons we chose to drive 35 minutes to it. We ordered 1 classic (Reg Fish Chips, mushy peas can of pop £13.90) 1 Large (Fish Chips w’ gravy can of pop £14.90) I shared with one daughter my husband shared with our other daughter. Portion sizes are quite decent. There’s seating outside (best option) or inside. We chose outside. The only downside is those pesky birds that scavenge your food. They didn’t bother us too much but please don’t feed them or they all hover around. Which is off putting. The chips were my favourite 8.5/10 as we had a lot of crispy chips unsure if it’s because they were about to close. I usually love mushy peas but they were 4/10. Not mushy at all, slightly cold. The fish was 7/10. We have definitely had better elsewhere, however the staff were pleasant we put it down to “they had a long day”. Hopefully if you go at a peak time everything will be fresh, the chips will be non crunchy hot! A couple we sat next to threw away all their fish chips but they never complained which I thought was odd a shame as I’m sure the staff could have resolved it. All in all, I would recommend going 8/10 as I think our one-off experience can be rectified."

The foods good but pricey have forgotten a mushy peas or curry sauce so good to check that they have gotten everything before you leave

Perfect spot for delicious fish and chips. Friendly staff and really tasty food. Picnic benches to eat at. All clean and tidy area. We will continue coming back whenever we are in the area.

Really poor fish and chips. The fish is pollock, not cod or haddock. The chips tasted like yesterday’s ones. The mushy peas were chalky. For £12.30 I’d expect better. The view was the only winner View menu

Fish and chips for lunch today was very disappointing.Fish was tastelss ,very thin and the batter resembled pre packed frozen fish. The chips appeared to be reheated. it wasn’t cheap and overall very disappointed.

Perfect for ceoliacs!! All fish and chips are gluten free, so no chance of cross contamination. Fish tasted fresh and batter was nice and crispy. Chips were also crispy. Lovely lunch with a brilliant view included! View menu

The fish&chips were to greasy, to much oil in it. I understand that this meal is deep fried, but I didn’t feel well after. The personel was very friendly, but I would change the amount of fatty greasy adds on in it.

Only sells haddock but give it a try, must say some of the best fish and chips I have ever tasted, great crispy batter not the soggy stuff a lot of other shops sell, chips are crispy too and full of flavour highly recommend

"We were sure to book ahead for a table of 4 for 5.15 as it was a late Sunday roast we were fully aware that not everything would be available so it was no surprise when we were told that there was only gammon left for the roast option however there was still fish and chips homemade steak pie or vegetable lasagne. We happily opted for 3 gammon roast dinners and a homemade steak pie with mash (you get the choice of which potato you'd like) The food arrived piping hot with plenty of everything and it was so so tasty you could really tell everything was lovingly made from scratch for the roast the potatoes came both roasted and mashed with cauliflower, broccoli and carrot and swede mash. A generous helping of gammon and a large Yorkshire pudding with gravy that was clearly made with the juices as it was so flavourful. The steak pie was brilliant too homemade with large chunks of steak and a choice of potato and whether you'd like the same veg as that with the roast or with peas. This also came with gravy. For dessert there was a choice of either chocolate fudge cake, caramel apple pie or sticky toffee pudding and you had the choice of either cream, ice cream or custard. 2 of us got it with custard and 2 of us got it with ice cream and it wasn't overbearingly sweet it was perfect with a delicious caramel top! We all thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the drinks and service and will be back again one day if we find ourselves holidaying here again"
