"My wife and I came here particularly for dinner before the gig at Les Docks. The atmosphere was great with old rock n roll music that we both love, and the waitresses were very friendly. We ordered rustique burger with sides) and steak/ribs with sides). Have to say that the price is reasonably cheap in Switzerland judging by its American portion size and the gorgeous taste of the food. The potato wedges were such a surprise to me as I was expecting normal french fries. Will definitely visit again if we come here for gigs. Worth every penny!"

Sehr gute Bedienung, gutes Essen, gute Atmosphäre. Wir wollten geschäftlich nach 22 Uhr noch etwas essen. Die Base Bar ist dafür genau das Richtige

very nice bar, unfortunately only pub food, the vegan burger was only with nice but not really vegan pettie, the ambiente was nice and the music was top.

Great atmosphere, beer and food. Price is more than fair for what you normally find in Lausanne. Service was great and the waitress and cook were very very friendly. I recommend this place for any occasion but for a dinner with friends or visitors seems...perfect to me.

The Base Bar used to serve the best burgers in town. Not sure what happened, but it isn't the case anymore. I ordered the cheese burger (usually, it was amazing) and it was a huge disappointment. The bun was different, the patty was different, and...for no good reason it was drowned in mustard. Very sad

We have been sat for like min without being served (without lots of people in the restaurant). That was our first negative point. Then, we moved to another table and I forgot my bag in the first one, they took it and then they...were *really* unpolite and rude when I went to the bar to get it back. I would not recomment this place at all!

dinner on a Monday evening to celebrate a birthday. the place was very quiet and somewhat cold. the atmosphere was ok, but not overly inviting. the waitress was very nice and a bit embarrassing to miss so many types of drinks. even if it was not to do, it took a long time to come. it wasn't a problem when we had fun, but in the normal time I would have thought. if I have been there on other days, it is a good place and I would go again

Good service. But being charged the same for a side salad as for a side salad AND friend is a little bit over the top, especially when trying to find an arrangement with the staff! I had a fun time until I've had the...feeling of being financially abused! Bon établissement. Toutefois, être facturé le même prix pour une salade en accompagnement que pour un accompagnement de salade ET frites est excessif, surtout quand on fait part de son mécontentement. On se sent financièrement utilisé!

"Au Charbon is family managed restaurant, set in a pleasant and quiet part of Lausanne, easily reached on the bus, if like me, you are touring. The restaurant is ‘cosy’ and the owners have maximised the number of seats available, which sounds like me...spinning a cramped venue but it actually works out okay. We had sufficient room to relax and eat without imposing on our neighbouring tables, so the efficient spacing added to the atmosphere and the wine waiter added character. The restaurant has a traditional pizzeria menu with no surprises with the choice of pizza, steaks etc. All our choices were well presented, cooked exactly to request and delicious. Portion sizes were just right too On the down side, the table service was very slow, it took around an hour for the first course and one dish was wrong when it eventually arrived but we put that down to being busy. The lady serving was also a bit too presumptuous that the change from the bill would be her tip and she didn’t return the change, eventually coming back to confirm if this was so. In summary, I enjoyed my meal and time at Au Charbon, they seem to have earned their reputation from being consistent in serving nicely presented dishes that are cooked well. The higher end options are a bit on the pricey side if you are on holiday, especially when considering this is a pizzeria (a steak costing CHF). However most restaurants of this type in Lausanne are similarly priced and it is what it is."
