"I haven't been to The Bear in many years. My friends and I are not local, but we decided to meet there since it is halfway between us. We first visited about 2 months ago and decided to meet there again. It is a charming pub that is also dog friendly, which is a must for us. However, I have to say that the food was not up to par. My husband, who is not a picky eater, had the pie and said it was decent. But the vegetables were not good - the carrots were dry and rubbery, and the broccoli was dry as well. A couple of us ordered the gammon, served with pineapple that looked like pieces of foam at first. However, upon cutting into it, we found it to be rock-hard and dry. The peas were also dry and seemed like they had been sitting out for a while. As we were leaving, our friends commented that it's a lovely pub, but the food was a disappointment. We are unsure if we will return in the future, as it is too far to just come for a drink without food. It's a shame."

Excellent pub! Lovely Ye Old England feel to it. Not only that, dog friendly, brilliant staff and the food was unbelievable, especially the halloumi ciabatta! Would definitely recommend. View menu

Great service and a friendly host and waitress. We ordered the Sunday roast. I would say the quality is good but the temperature could have been warmer and the potatoes and parsnips more roasted. But a lovely atmosphere and good staff.

We were staying at the nearby Best Western Hotel and fancied a change form their restaurant. What an amazing place so much history , originally from the 17th century , the inside has so many beautiful original features enhanced by the incredible Christmas decorations. The...

My wife thought it would be a nice surprise to go back to the Bear we were left very disappointed, a Vintage Inn with no Shiraz ! absolutely unbelievable ! Appalls draught cider nothing like the usual fresh crisp taste you get then when the gammon came no English mustard it will be a long time before we return. View menu

After not visiting The Bear Inn in many years, a group of us dined there before Christmas and again last night. The food each time for all 6 of us in the party, was delicious. Last night we went for their set 4 course Burns Night celebration dinner. The menu was lovely and all the dishes were made from first rate ingredients and cooked to perfection. There is certainly a great kitchen crew well done guys. My new favourite place.

We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation after being let down by two other places, and were greeted by the friendliest staff and excellent customer service I have experienced in a long time. Despite our group of six, we were seated at a lovely table quickly and given menus and drinks by Andrew. His service was exceptional throughout the night, not only for us but for all customers he served. The menu was varied and reasonably priced, with delicious specials available. Our order was taken promptly and the food arrived quickly and was delicious. The waiter remembered our drinks and was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring we had everything we needed. The desserts were amazing....
