"The staff were nice apart from one of them had jeans, t-shirt and trainers on, got given a table which wasn’t enough room for 4 adults and a high chair, it was a quiet Monday night but service was really slow it took 90 minutes before we ordered our desserts, and the carbonara was really watery, apart from that everything was okay"

We used to love this restaurant, but our most recent visit left us disappointed. The service was either extremely slow or rushed, but the food was still enjoyable. View menu

I absolutely adore Bella Italia and my visits are frequent. The food is consistently excellent, the service is friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Overall, highly recommended.

The food was average. The main dishes lacked garnish and looked imperfect. Our server, Liv, was excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. She was brilliant in customer service. She definitely was a strong member of the team.

"Visited on a busy Saturday evening. General impression is the restaurant is clean, well presented and evidently well liked for how many people were in the small dining area. A little noisy, particularly in the confined space beside the kitchen, when seated close beside a louder table. As the evening progressed, we felt quite cold not sure if the heating was on? Service from the staff was outstanding, very friendly, polite, attentive, but food was slow to arrive. We were a little perplexed by having the appetiser on the table before our starter/main order had been taken, so having to work around still having the menus. The smoked butter was very strong my partner liked it, it was too much for me. Both fish starters were good, with the mackerel our favourite. The main courses were OK. The lamb was fine, but served with lamb fat root veg meant the whole plate was very similar flavoured, and the green beans/salsa verde felt like an afterthought. The skate wing was nice, and the crispy capers were a new and pleasant experience. The desserts rescued the food for me the creme brulée was outstanding, and the chocolate special was very good, with exception of a slightly chewy meringue. I feel I'm being picky with my criticisms, but fig tree is definitely priced higher than other more standard fare restaurants in Plymouth where we have also had very good food."
