"To be honest we (4 adults) chose this restaurant because a cold wind had got up and we wanted to find a place with some shelter in which to eat; and foolishly assuming that all the brasseries on the quay would offer much the same quality we plumped for this one. What a mistake. The complet crepe was indeed generous but cold and the batter way too thick so chewy. The steaks were minuscule and tough with gristle and my pizza was missing the olives for which I had chosen it and the tomato sauce was tomato paste from a tube which hadn't been cooked down so tasted metallic. As another reviewer remarked the wine, Sancerre, was very good but not cheap but proved the best part of the meal. And although the service we received was reasonable, (indeed the food arrived worryingly quickly), an elderly couple next to us had to remind the waiter about their wine order 4 times and had finished their mains by the time it arrived. And whilst we could not follow the whole conversation they were clearly being told off for moving tables (out of the wind) when the restaurant was not full and encouraged to leave asap. We were too disheartened to complain and given the head waiter's aggressive attitude slightly intimidated to as well....but will never eat there again. La Rochelle offers a huge range of excellent restaurants at all prices. Choose another."

Crepes, a bottle of rose wine, a scenic and quiet-ish quayside location, good service and time to linger. This restaurant delivered that for us and I'm really quite pleased that we decided to lunch on the quieter side of the Old Port and fell on this place.

We were concerned after a few scathing reviews on here, but we took our chances! Both my husband and I had pizzas, which were lovely. Service was quick, staff were friendly and the meal was reasonably priced. Would recommend this for a place to eat in La Rochelle.

After discovering this restaurant, we ate all our evening meals here, as there was plenty of choice, and it was nicely cooked and presented. Like most restaurants, they serve a lot of fish and seafood, but their menu offers other dishes - pasta, pizzas, burgers, salads etc. The staff are quick to serve you, and very friendly. I would certainly recommend it.

We chose it because it looked nice and was a good location. Big mistake. The waiter first bought the wrong wine, then the food arrived, both courses at the same time. It was at best extremely mediocre. My wife had muscles which were gritty probably not washed properly and the place is not cheap.Despite all this, there was no gesture at all made to the bill we got. Very poor, I would avoid. View menu

We sat down at this restaurant in the outside area overlooking the marina and immediately relaxed. The menu was typical of all pavement style cafes. We chose well and our meal typically our favourite fayre was washed down with a pichet of white wine. Oysters are always a favourite of mine and on that day had a salad nicoise. Good food, served by delightful people at a very reasonable price.

When arriving in La Rochelle, we looked for a place to have lunch. The street where the restaurant is situated has several restaurants all with roughly the same menu. The food was nice staff friendly but once you had your main course they seemed to kind of forget about you..We were on holiday so we were not in a hurry. We went back a second time at the end of our stay and it was the same service.

Having visited in May, we thought we would try this restaurant again and we weren't disappointed. It was a very quiet Monday evening, the weather beautiful and we sat outside. Very friendly greeting from the waitress. Our drinks arrived very quickly and our food soon after. Tagliatelle au salmon. Really tasty. Followed by chocolate mousse (me) and sorbet (him). Then coffee. Served promptly and with a very winning smile, language proving no barrier. Will be back View menu

Fish soup - rather like tomato soup with jar of fish paste mixed in. No pieces of fish at all. Moules - gritty & unwashed. No sauce or juice. Lots not open.Husband had burger. Asked for Very Well done. No pink. British style. - didn't manage that.Still pink.Lovely young waiter seemed very embarrassed. Didn't return once I said there was grit in the moules. Fries - in tiny basket with both meals. No chance of getting fat here.Wine nice - red Sancerre but 24€ a bottle

We went to the Le Cafe du Nord this evening and had an utterly terrible experience. Having waited for two hours for our meal we politely told the manager who immediately started aggressively shouting accusing us of lying and then physically threatened a female member of the party. There were four young children with us who were all frightened and in tears. We were at no point confrontational we just merely let it be known that we had been waiting too long, to be confronted by such inappropriate intimidating behaviour left us all shaken. Needless to say we left without eating and will never return there again and can not in all good consciousness recommend this restaurant to anyone particular...
