"We decided to try this unknown for us restaurant in Vienna, after I noticed was a banner commemorating the 100 years in operation. It looked quite different to what we are used to in Canada, the place looked like it had been decorated and seen its best times years ago, several solo customers were seating in their tables reading newspapers quietly while having lunch. It did not looked fancy or trendy, but we were tired and hungry so we decided to stay.We ordered a herring salad, goulash and and some kind of vegetable strudel.....they were all sublime! Then we ordered the different cakes as dessert, we had two first but they were so good we had to try and share a third one.I am sure that everything in the menu must be nothing short of exceptional, if this place was back home it would no doubt be my favourite. What else can I say to recommend it?Like I said, not trendy, elegant or crowded, just delicious food in a quiet and extremely peaceful ambiance......just the real thing."

A traditional, well worth a visit. The real Vienna coffee house atmosphere, where you find yourself in between a student cramming for exams, girlfriends having a coffee, an office worker reading a newspaper on a break, and so on. Great apfelstrüdel. Nice place.

Came across this by chance when we were looking for somewhere to shelter from a heavy downpour of rain. Very traditional feeling cafe, decorated in the 1950's, full of locals as well as tourists. Lovely coffee with whipped cream, homemade apple iced tea and lots of cakes.

There are friendlier places in Vienna with more inspiring food (Cafe Museum, for example). Cash only. Food arrived quickly enough, but the menus were basically tossed at us, at the beginning. All the traditional Viennese cuisine is offered. The melange was maybe the weakest part...of the meal. Decor could use a face-lift as well (stained couches). Recommended to us by locals, but the place is not welcoming to tourists. 3 out of 5 for decent food.

עברית בהמשך We were in Stadtpark, so we decided to try Cafe Prueckel, which Google recommended for its famous cheesecake. The cold coffee (there was a heat wave in Vienna) was significantly cheaper than Demel or Landtman, but so was the quality. The cheesecake turned...out to be a Topfen cake, which is a sour and crumbly cheese associated with making yogurt. I actually like it, but it's definitely not your regular cheese. It had a top layer of thin tart that dried out a bit (intentionally) an interesting abrasion. The cafe is not fancy and there is no air conditioning inside. Outside there are large parasols.

At the first sight it seems oldfashioned because the atmosphere of this kaffeehaus makes you feel back in the 50ies, from the furniture to the dress of the waitresses. But it's a positive feeling. The food is simple but very tasty and well prepared: the classic apfelstrudel probably is the best I have ever eaten, but I suggest you also the rhubarb-strudel and all other homemade cake pefectly shown in a dedicated showcase. About the drinks I suggest the homemade Apple-lemonade with a touch of cinnamon. And it's not just a cafeteria: "rindsgulasch" is very good and the zucchini salted strudel as well. But there are many other savory main courses.
