"The setting of the restaurant is beautiful, but the appetizer we ordered was overpriced and took an unusually long time to arrive. The Chicken Madras, which was my main course, came out at 6:50 PM. While the rice and naan were very tasty, the madras itself was disappointingly sweet, overly tomatoey, and lacked depth of flavor. Since this was also a birthday celebration, we felt rushed and didn’t have time for dessert. We weren't the only ones facing issues; the table next to us also received the wrong drink and food orders. I have a fondness for the Penventon Hotel, having visited several times in the past and always enjoyed my experience, but last night was a complete disappointment. If you are going to offer a pre-theater dinner service, it’s essential to allow customers enough time to enjoy their meals. I made an effort to accommodate this, and it was disheartening to see such a decline in standards. I hope you can improve, as I expected much better from you."

"We’ve been semi regulars for a while now and really enjoy Thursday pub quiz night. Staff are very welcoming. However whilst the food served is very good have noticed that portion size has decreased on the last couple of visits, guess it’s a sign of the times. For example I come for lunch every now and then, just order a bowl of delicious homemade soup, but the size of bowl now very small, also used to offer smaller portions of some main meals for lunch etc but no longer. If not for this I would rate 5*. Had the lasagne which was good but could do with either a larger portion or a decent portion of salad on the side not just a couple of leaves. Realise it’s a difficult time for businesses in the hospitality sector but like many other people we drive several miles to the pub when we could just walk to our local town. Anyway this is I hope taken as feedback, it is a lovely pub which serves good food just could do with adjusting the portion size a little."

"My other half and I visited the golden lion inn for breakfast this morning, it was absolutely beautiful. We went along with out dog, who got a treat and a bowl of water. "This time I only popped in for a drink after work. However, a couple of weeks before we popped in for dinner. Although the beers are good I am afraid the very young staff were doing their jobs and no more. The family next to us had food missing were not happy. Having been here previously always had fantastic food this visit was really disappointing. The place was closed by 9!!! Would appear the change of hands has not been a good thing for the food here."

"we came to a friend recommended, 3 curs Sunday lunch for £13! eating is amazing and a good part too. was a few Sundays and this led to us coming to us on the Tuesday for curry night, which was again a head at £6 was banging 'ansome! steak night is also a must, boiled to perfection. the staff are beautiful, so friendly and friendly and keep their eyes peeled for maddison the rottweiler, she is a great softy, but hide all the tennis balls they have as she will sniff them up! haha excellent pub, excellent eating xxx"
