"After we have tried various places to eat on a bank holiday to discover it completely booked or rude fellow workers, we have luck with our 5th attempt. it was so refreshing to be welcomed and informed, there were food available. our friends were vegan and this place had a lot of choice surprising for them! we had happy to arrive during the happy hour 2 for 1 cocktails. I chose a distinctive mojito that was made beautiful. for beginners I really wanted to taste chicken wings or the mac n cheese, but I worship bulton. When that came, it was just like the one my friend had brought back from Malawi. it was convenient to use a paper bag that offers a medium for snacks later and kitty tasty. for the net order all hate one? a thick broth plate, filled with various meats such as lamb or pebbles. I had a bobadi dish that were baked with mint. all seasoned were perfect and generous. overall really good service and a beautiful variety especially for vegan vegan vegans."

Highly recommend this place, as a South African. Sixth time here and doesn’t disappoint. Both meat and veggie platters amazing. Drink selection just the same as back home!

Chi is amazing, she was so thoughtful and had such a friendly and positive energy thanks for making our night! And also, thank you to Adrian who made our drinks ! Such an awesome place in the NQ! Superb twist on South African cuisine with more than enough to sate both ex pats and English alike. Great drinks specials with generous and well priced meals. The maize balls and chilli bites are particularly worth an order though everything is great. Friendly and attentive service too.

incredibly friendly staff, the manager reminded us of months ago. great traditional South African foods....real hardcore calorie and taste, none of their tiny tellers of steamed vegetables here, this eating is what the jumpbok rugby team ffs built. this wonderful place is a must for a relaxing, delicous and completely relaxed evening. there are no frills, only fantastic aromas and the cocktails are supposed to die.

The staff at this restaurant are incredibly friendly, the manager even remembered us from 6 months ago. The traditional South African food is delicious and hearty, with no skimpy portions of steamed vegetables in sight. This is the kind of hearty eating that fuels the Springbok rugby team. This place is a must for a relaxing, delicious, and completely laid-back evening. There are no fancy decorations, just fantastic aromas and cocktails that are to die for.

The staff was incredibly friendly, with the manager even remembering us from 6 months ago. The restaurant serves fantastic traditional South African food - full of rich flavors and calories. This is no place for small steamed vegetable plates; the food here is hearty and reminiscent of what fuels the Springbok Rugby Team. It's a must-visit for a relaxing, delicious, and laid-back evening. The atmosphere is casual, but the flavors are incredible, and the cocktails are top-notch.

The staff at this restaurant are incredibly friendly, with the manager even remembering us from our visit six months ago. This restaurant is a must-visit for a relaxing and delicious evening. There are no fancy decorations, just fantastic aromas and unforgettable cocktails.

Authentic South African flavours and excellent value for money! Our first of what will no doubt be many visits to Chakalaka was complimented by the warm hospitality of our waitress Chi, who was attentive, helpful and knew the menu in detail. The drinks were delicious and plentiful thanks to happy hour, and when the food arrived it was packed with flavour and piping hot. Genuine South African recipes well worth a try! The venue also has a great atmosphere and serves well as prime example of what Manchesters Northern Quarter has to offer! Compliments to the Chef, the bar staff and especially Chi! Thankyou so much, we will be back!

"Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes. We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty. We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it. After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive. Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. If you're a fan of Persian food or perhaps want to try something new then you would genuinely struggle to find such a quality dining experience at this price point."

"I've been to a couple of different Dishoom branches a few times and have never been disappointed by the breakfast options. The sausage naan roll is excellent. A couple of really tasty vegan sausages with some melted vegan cheese all wrapped up in a lovely soft naan and served with some sort of sweet chilli dipping sauce. My go to now is usually the vegan Bombay. It's a good hearty breakfast plate with... a couple of the same well seasoned vegan sausages. Some vegan tofu akuri a nicely spiced tofu scramble. Some very well cooked mushroom slices (that are maybe a wee bit under seasoned). The baked beans are really nicely spiced, elevating them far beyond the standard sweet sauce fare that's the usual. A few slices of well flavoured black pudding (that could be fried to being a bit crispier). A cooked tomato which is a bit dull, I've never been keen on tomatoes on my breakfast plate and this once has not changed my mind. It could do with some more charring and maybe some spicing. To help you mop everything up, the whole thing is served with a couple of soft bread buns that have been nicely toasted. I usually top the whole thing off with some chocolate chai with oat milk you get free refills for your chai. Unfortunately, it isn't wheelchair accessible. There are stairs up into the restaurant and various small flights of stairs to get to different parts of the restaurant. Updated from previous review on 2024 03 25"
