"Chesters is pretty local to us being only a couple of miles away and so we thought we would give it a go as I didn 't fancy any of our usual haunts. It 's a pub with letting rooms and a bar food offering with a separate restaurant and is very tastefully decorated in the restaurant area. It was a bit noisy in the main bar area as it 's a popular place for all ages and football was showing so we took a two seat table in the side dining area close to the conservatory and we had the place to ourselves for quite a while. Having already checked out their menu online I had decided to try out their 'home made ' cottage pie which came with carrots and peas and it is hard to fault it but being the ultra critical diner that I am here are my thoughts on the meal. Oh and by the way if you like a real ale go for the Doombar, it 's a cracking pint but a wee bit pricey at £3.60, I guess it would have been cheaper in the bar. It wasn 't overly busy in the pub or restaurant but our food took around 25 minutes to arrive, just a wee bit longer than I was comfortable with and it arrived on cold plates. The cottage pie itself was piping hot in an oval ceramic container and was indeed home made but the veggies whilst hot initially soon cooled down very quickly. Now a couple of things were not quite right here, the cottage pie had a cheesy top (which I personally don 't mind) but we were not given the option of with or without cheese. The aforementioned cheesy top was very tasty but was also very 'gloopy ' it could have done with either a few seconds under a grill or a quick blast with a catering blow torch to (a) give it some colour and (b) to crist it up a wee bit. Minor points I know but relevant none the less. We were offered extra gravy half way through our meal (there was very little gravy in the cottage pie) which we declined but in retrospect should have accepted as it would have helped keep the veggies warm, lol. The young man that served us attentive and knowledgeable and the owners were too and apologised for the time it took to get the food and the cold plates when it was pointed out to them. Would I go back? Yes and fully intend to so that we can try some other dishes on the menu. Did the cons out weigh the pros? No, this is one you need to try if you haven 't been before. There is free parking outside the pub and a good sized car part round the back. It has a nice atmosphere and is well decorated with plenty of room between the tables."

Beautiful Sunday roast and excellent, quick and friendly service too. The meat was very good as per usual with brilliant trimmings and a lovely pudding.

This restaurant is a lovely and welcoming spot with delicious, reasonably priced dishes. The service is fast and the value for money is exceptional. The menu offers a wide selection of options. A visit to this place is definitely recommended!

My wife's specific dietary requirements were taken into consideration and met, allowing her to fully enjoy her liver and bacon casserole. My pizza was a bit tough. Despite this, we would definitely come back to the restaurant, but we'll be skipping the pizza next time. View menu

Stayed in the area and were recommended this place by the owner of the B and B. The vegetarian choices were varied and very tasty. Baked Camembert, then veggie lasagne with salad and chips! Husband had Brie and beetroot tart with chips and salad. Service was a little slow as pub was very busy. The rhubarb G and T was absolutely delicious! Friendly staff.

This pub was round the corner from a b&b we were staying at so easy to walk to. We were made very welcome and all the staff were friendly and efficient. There was a good choice of traditional pub food, very generous portions and both meals we chose were excellent. I don’t know how they do it for the incredibly reasonable cost. I would happily recommend Chesters!

Went round for Sunday lunch. The meat (lamb) was plentiful and soft and tender except with your eyes shut it could easily have been beef it simply did not taste of lamb. There was enough veg in the traditional plain boiled in water style which has been acceptable for 100 years so I guess that's ok. Nothing overall to complain about but not one of us could go home and say we'd had a really tasty lunch. View menu

We were staying at a superb B B just round the corner and were advised that Chesters did good pub food. We were eating early and at six o'clock it was busy, giving the appearance that it was a regular watering hole for those returning home from work. This is a pub serving good genuine pub food. My wife had scampi and chips which seemed to have a larger portion of scampi as is the norm. I had the steak and Doom Bar pie which came with a puff pastry top and no bottom not a pie in my book, but there are long term discussions on this subject) however there were several large chunks of meat contained therein and the lady kindly provided a spoon , when asked, so that I could enjoy the gravy. All t...

I went with a group of people for a festive lunch that had been pre-ordered, so I'm not sure why it took so long to come out of the kitchen. The price was reasonable, but it would have been nice to have received our food in a more timely manner. We waited 30 minutes for our pre-ordered starters, and once we finished those, we waited another 30 minutes for the main course. This meant that my friend, who hadn't ordered a starter, had to wait a total of an hour and 20 minutes before she received any food at all. I have to say, the turkey dinner was delicious. However, I think having three different types of potatoes was unnecessary – most people would have been happy with just roasties, so the...

"I’ve just realised I’ve been visiting The Beck for over 20 years now for both drinks and meals with friends and family and I’ve never written a review! The Beck for me is home from home and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. They say a business is only as good as it’s staff, and maybe this is why The Beck has lasted so long with a reputation for a relaxed atmosphere good food and good service. The staff here are friendly, caring and professional, I’ve never been anywhere where I felt so at home as The Beck. Edward, Julie, Theresa, Kieran and not forgetting Trish in the kitchen make the place what it is! In 20 years I’ve never had a bad meal here, the food is excellent, and today did not disappoint. I was treating my parents and wife to a belated Mother’s Day and Dad’s birthday meal out, I had the lamb roast which was sublime and my dad had the blade of beef which in his words was “melt in your mouth” good! My Wife had a chilli and my Mum had the flat bread, which were also very nice and portions are plentiful. My daughter has Dairy and Soya allergies and wanted sausages and mash however the mash had butter in it so they made it with chips instead, she also cleared her plate! If you want to go somewhere with a nice warm friendly atmosphere and excellent food at very reasonable prices then The Beck is definitely worth a visit."
