"nice setting but terrible food. the kitchen staff is Thai but seem to have no pride in the food they deliver. i suspect nobody tastes even the food before it leaves the kitchen or they simply dont care. the restaurant is very popular with locals,...customers are queuing to get a table. Hence they must be doing something good. we had chosen dishes and all were far below the bare minimum standard i would expect from a Thai restaurant of any category, let alone this one in a beautiful surrounding. the fish soup and no fish in it, only some pieces of squid and a few prawns and mushrooms. the tofu was far undercooked. the chiang mai chicken was blunt and tasteless and the accompanying sauces could have come from a cheap chinese takeaway. the isaan meat was cold, i suspect left overs from the previous days out of the fridge. the vegetable side dish was more or less ok. the service front staff was good. unfortunately the food was very disappointing. i recommend the kitchen chef and owner to taste the food before it being sent upstairs. it was prepared by Thai people that had no proud in their origins and took the local customers for a ride…."

a very popular restaurant of me and my friend, we had not visited many years, but we thought we would. unfortunately I was served raw chicken and will not return.

I wouldn't call it the best Thai I've ever had, but it was tasty and authentic. Full disclosure, I did clean my plate so take that for what it's worth! Nice small but charming building, good service, good menu selection.

without booking restaurant to go was very busy, but they have us a table for the staff was friendly and helpful with fast service. eating was amazingly steamed queen skalopps, veggie spring rolls, stir fried garnels and a herbal green curry.

I have been going to this restaurant for the last years, Never has it dissatisfied, the food is excellent, as is the service from Margaret, and her team. I am moving back to London to live next week, I can honestly say I will...miss the place very, very much. Thank you Margaret. Xx Lolly.

hidden from a small passage at the high street we have seen on our walk. we raised early as we had not booked (it is quite small in the inner) and soon sit by friendly staff. the building itself is very old and divided into small rooms, but it works well as a Thai restaurant. that was delicious, we had a shader for beginners, a curry and a pad thai. a very pleasant evening meal and would like to go back when I'm ever back in oxford.

My (Thai) wife and I have eaten in several Thai restaurants in England since returning from Phuket in May this year. None come close to Chiang Mai Kitchen in Oxford. This is real Thai food cooked northern style (read: spicy! and it truly surpassed expectations....They even had Mango sticky rice, and real Thai coffee (hot, not iced) which I have not found in about other Thai restaurants we have eaten at. Margaret and her colleagues were attentive and efficient, and a pleasure to chat with for a moment after we had finished eating. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you like genuine Thai food backed by authentic Thai hospitality.
