"The pub may appear large from the outside, but inside it is cozy and intimate, with two small bars and a group of regulars enjoying a quiet drink. This establishment offers a menu that goes beyond the basic pub fare, and the staff are friendly. As the weather had suddenly changed from late summer to autumn, we decided to order the steak and ale pie and the chicken and leek pie as our main courses, both of which were excellent. These pies were some of the best I have ever had, being filled with plenty of meat and not having soggy pastry - they were true pies, not just a casserole with a puff pastry top. I highly recommend stopping in for a hearty meal, and the ales from Daleside and Rudgate brewery were perfect accompaniments."

Stopped for a few pints after a rainy hike. Good local beers including Whitby Brewery. No lunch on offer on Sunday so can't comment on food.

Lovely food and very friendly staff. Went for dinner here one night with two dogs and the staff were very accommodating and the food was very nice.

I stopped by for some drinks and found the bartender to be friendly. The pub is dog-friendly and has an open fire. I had a couple of drinks in a quiet atmosphere.

The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. I will definitely return. The bread and butter pudding was also fantastic. I'm sorry that I forgot to take a photo.

Dinner for 3 . Good pub food. The pub was full of locals with a very warm atmosphere. They apparently do good dinner bed and breakfast deals in the winter. Beautiful scenery and lovely walks. Thank you!

We have stayed in nearby Fryup several times but never ventured into local pubs as our children were too young. We rang today on the off-chance that there would be a table for dinner after our day out and were in luck! The food was great (especially the pies and bread and butter pud! . Service was friendly and chatty and the local beer went down a treat! Would warmly recommend and hope to return on our next trip!

I stayed here one night whilst walking through the area. Despite the Covid restrictions, the reception was welcoming and I was soon in my room. Perfectly functional for one night, with all the usual extras. The bath was very welcome after a long day's walking.I did not eat in the restaurant but watched England i the Euros instead. An excellent, quiet night's sleep. The breakfast was well presented and cooked. All the staff seemed friendly ad efficient. Would certainly stay again.

Ordered a pint of the local bitter and it was really smooth and refreshing. Liked it so much I drank it very quickly and ordered another! Had the fish and chips, and my wife had the scampi. The fish tasted fresh and the batter was the right blend of oily and crispy. The scampi portion was generous. They both came with chips and some vegetables (to keep us healthy ha ha). I had the chocolate cake for dessert and that was definitely homemade and melt in your mouth. The staff were very welcoming and happy to serve.
