"Now famous for it 's connections to 'war horse ' this rural pub is becoming very busy at weekends. The roast dinners are so wonderful that waiting for a table to become available is worth it. Great atmosphere in the bar where dogs are welcome. A great menu that changes regularly, delicious home made desserts and a childrens menu. A lovely traditional pub in the beautiful village of Iddesleigh. Reasonable prices too. We are regular diners and today 3 generations tucked in to Sunday lunch, chicken, beef or lamb not a dreaded carvery waitress service veg. Perfectly cooked and gravy better than your Mothers. Highly recommended value for money."

This was our second year to stop over while on route to Devon. And we were not disappointed. The welcome is friendly and laughs are abundant. Good rooms which are very comfortable, and great food for dinner and breakfast. Add this to the setting and it's a perfect place to visit, either for a drink, meal or overnight.

If you look for the Duke of York in Winkleigh you won't find it, and that would be too bad. It's in Iddesleigh, not far away, next tothe church. Rated one of the top ten pub eateries in England, it is a real British experience in a 15th c building. We ordered four different things for lunch. All were very good, served well and without a long wait. Worth a detour, pet-friendly.

In the middle of nowhere, the quiet village of Iddesleigh hosts this very typical old style English pub. Mainly locals and those in the know appreciate the welcome and ambience here. No frills, just good ales and cider and very good food. There is a beer garden to the rear and bench outside front which all adds to the atmosphere. Well worth a visit along country lanes. One word of caution if you are tall like me, mind your head on the entrance door ouch!!

Our third visit in three months, and sure to be going back. Another beautiful day, so sat out again. Tried the famous steak and kidney pud, what a treat. Great portion size, stuffed to the gills with tender meat, no scrimping on the kidney, and lashings of gravy. Five veg on the side. Tuna baguette for the lady, and we shared an apple pie. Nice welcome again, convivial atmosphere in the bar. Ran a tab whilst sitting out in the garden. Lovely pub, lovely folks, most of all lovely grub. See you next month

It has been a while unfortunately since I last visited my favourite ever pub,but at last returned on Saturday to find it exactly the same , unchanged unspoilt. A truly amazing setting, the village fete was on, the green was being used for this as well as the village hall the pub was the centre of the whole thing. Full of happiness, eating great food, enjoying pefect cask ales in a truly blissful setting. Well done The Duke of York, always worth the trip, never disappoints. I will certainly be back as my wife my dog love it there to.

We visited this pub on recommendations and trip advisor reviews. It was definitely worth the 10 mile trip from where we were staying. We sat in the main bar, ordered fish and chips and the renowned steak and kidney pudding. This was definitely worth the wait. I still had room for pudding and was recommended the homemade mars bar cheesecake, which I thoroughly enjoyed. We shared our table with a couple and their friend who lived locally. We chatted for a good couple of hours and it was such a friendly atmosphere, made the last night of our holiday

We haven't been here for a few years having holidayed in other parts of the country but we decided to return to the area and one of the main reasons was to visit this truly excellent pub again! Little had changed (there were a lesser amount of specials on its famous Specials Board but that was about it. We were here during its Summer Beer Festival and as such were treated to several amazing beers all of which were well looked after. The food was still as good as ever, freshly prepared, well cooked, beautifully tasty and good value! We visited 3 times during our week!!!!

What a fantastic retreat, stayed just the one night but will definitely be back. The rooms are comfortable and very peaceful. No noise at all due to its remote location. The bar has a good selection of ales, all well kept! The menu is excellent and judging by what I could hear from other diners all the food is incredible. Due to it being a cold January evening I went for the 'famous steak kidney pudding ' and was so glad I did, for once the title was fully justified! Will definitely be back when next down in Devon. The restaurant is also pet friendly which although my dog was at home on this trip is a big plus point for me!
