"First visit since the pub changed hands 3years ago. Impressive from the moment you walk through the door. Lovely clean feel. Lunch was for 'two and a dog ', so we were unable to eat in the restaurant. Instead we were seated in The Cottage, a snug area just off the bar that felt like private dining. I had roast pork with an extra slice of beef (for the dog). My friend had roast beef. Lovely thick slices of meat, a choice of 7 vegetables, served separately, including my favourite, cabbage. . Delicious young parsnips, Cauliflower cheese, fine green beans, carrots, cabbage, swede and the best roast potatoes ever. Gravy, horseradish and apple sauce accompanied it all. All this for under a tenner per head!! Drinks prices are very reasonable too. There is a large, well kept garden and they offer a function room and catered buffets. Sadly there is no onsite parking, but there are several nearby lanes and we had no trouble finding a free parking in one if them. As you can imagine booking is essential. The landlord and staff are welcoming and efficient. An all round good find and we will be back. If we don 't make a booking the dog probably will Blessings to the cook (s)"

Only second ever visit and struggled to like it at all. Had a drink over Xmas and left after 1 drink as didn't take to the atmosphere. Went in again start of this month and same thing.

We wandered up the road to the First In Last Out today for a Sunday carvery. Great atmosphere and a really satisfying meal. Tasty gravy, crispy crackling and a good selection of vegetables including cauliflower cheese and leeks in a wine and mustard sauce. Chef Chris even made a special vegetarian pie for my husband complete with vegetarian gravy (we rang the night before). We were all too full for dessert maybe next time. View menu

We had a weeks holiday in north Devon and visited a lot of nice restaurants and pubs, but no place we visited treated us quite as nice as the guys from the First In Last Out! We had a 5 month old baby and 2 dogs and the landlady gave us the most convenient seats to suit our baby and dogs, and the food was brilliant! Simple pub grub cooked fantastic with very generous portions and all cooked fresh. Such a wonderful atmosphere in the pub with fantastic staff and friendly locals. Such a great night. We will be back for sure!!!!

We had heard that The First In Last Out was now serving food, so on a Wednesday evening we decided to go and give it a try. Since we couldn't leave our two dogs at the chalet where we were staying, we brought them along with us. To our pleasant surprise, we were warmly welcomed, dogs and all. I ordered a crisp and refreshing lager, while the menu offered a selection of traditional pub fare. The food exceeded our expectations - my gammon steak with chips and egg was delicious, and my partner enjoyed their lasagna with salad. The homemade chips were a standout, the gammon was perfectly cooked, and the lasagna was not greasy. The fresh and crispy salad added a nice touch to the meal. I devoured...
