"The Folkestone Wine Company is a delightfully intimate restaurant in the old town with a charming rustic interior. The tiny bar hosts an old style record player providing soothing background music and the front of house leads onto a small room at the back with views into the kitchen. The menu is small and select offering one meat and one fish dish, displayed on a blackboard and changes with the seasons depending on what is fresh and available with all ingredients sourced locally. With the renown David Hart at the helm we knew the food was going to be good but it surpassed both of our expectations. We had a glass of the sparkling Vouvray with the Caponata, buffalo mozzarella and pine nuts and the mussels, cider and leeks with cream. I had to ask for a soup spoon and some of the delicious homemade soda bread to mop up the delectable cream sauce which accompanied the mussels. For mains we had both of the meat and fish dishes on offer the cod fillet, roast peppers, barlotti beans and aioli and lamb rump, flageolet beans, tomatoes and rosemary with charlotte potatoes. With just enough room for dessert we opted for the Basque gateaux which came with preserved strawberries and a generous serving of cream. The dishes were all cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and the portion sizes were equally perfect. In fact everything about our meal was perfect. The wine list is very extensive with a good by the glass selection and suggested wine pairings are posted on the blackboard. Polly, the owner and front of house, suggested the Reserve de Gassac 2022 which was an excellent accompaniment for both dishes and has an impressive mix of grapes Viogner, Chardonnay, Chenin, Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache Blanc. The food was excellent and the service very personal. It felt as though we were dining in a countryside kitchen. Polly was charming, engaging and attentive and we happily went with her excellent recommendations for wine and dessert (off menu) which proved to be spot on. We really loved our meal here and the restaurant it’s bijou, quirky, slightly eccentric, offers authentic French style cuisine served on mis matched vintage crockery and an extensive selection of wines in the heart of Folkestone. It’s not short of awards and recommendations from top food critics and chefs and it’s not difficult to see why."

The French Sun King Louis 16th boiling away in his legendary orangery at Versailles famously made the finest marmalade in all Christendom, but not any more! All hail the new marmalade king, by Dave, the brilliant chef-owner of the Folkestone Wine Company, whose small batch marmalade puts the Sun King in the shade! The king Louis of marmalade is dead, long live Dave, the new king of marmalade!

Phenomenally overrated. We sat in a shabby room at the rear that was full of pointless furniture, the lighting and ambience was dreadful. Maybe I’m lucky to have an enthusiastic cook at chez nous but this meal was very average and vastly overpriced… the icing on the cake ? A 75ml glass of pineau at £9 (the price of 75cl in leclerc) and a glass of Sparkling vouvray £11.50 (6€ a BOTTLE in France). Avoid

We visited here for a birthday lunch. They were quite accomodating despite the fact we were 15mins late. This is a quite silly but intimate place with great atmosphere. The food is excellent we had Dover sole and turbot. Both were cooked to perfection. The wild garlic soup was really good as it was actually foraged. Only downside was we had no room for deserts. Would return again and definitely recommend.

Great Little Restaurant, Got a late booking, very relaxed environment our waiter and Polly front of house very welcoming. Food was very well cooked and seasoned , Scallop dish exceptional, only slight downside , 4 half sliced bits of bread sliced with a mandolin ? and tab of butter £4 whole loaf of Bread ? And I know it’s shabby chic but iron your napkins. would definitely go back but a few minor details would not make me feel I was a bit slightly short changed .

The restaurant is cozy and inviting, offering a limited menu with an excellent wine selection and wines available by the glass. They also serve cocktails and local beer (Romney). The wild garlic soup, made with freshly foraged ingredients, was bursting with flavor. The lamb dish was exceptional, cooked perfectly and incredibly tender, with the salsa verde and turnips complementing it perfectly. The staff were attentive and friendly, creating a comfortable atmosphere. Despite some negative reviews, my experience at this restaurant was thoroughly enjoyable and I will definitely be returning.

It's nuts that TripAdvisor's algorithm ranks this as the 41st best restaurant in Folkestone (at the time of writing . I'd say it's one of the best restaurants in the south east of England and far and away the best in Folkestone (miles better than Rocksalt! The food is absolutely delicious perfectly cooked, inventive and fresh. The wine is fantastic, the atmosphere is great and the service is friendly and attentive. It's perfect. The people on here writing reviews moaning about the crockery, prices or things running out on the menu ought to just go to Pizza Express this is a brilliant independent restaurant that I'll come back to again and again.

Ditch all other tarts, oh Chefs, for none can compare to Dave's Tart Tatin. My partner and I indulged in this masterpiece last Thursday night, crafted by Chef Dave with precision and sweetness. The apples were nestled perfectly in pastry with a heavenly syrup, all baked en croute. The dish sizzled on the table, surrounded by swirling steam like a dream. Polly then served it with a flawless side of ice cream. We devoured the tart eagerly, causing my partner to burn her lips on its delectable syrup. We washed it down with fizzy Vouvray, discussing fine art as we savored every bite. We bid farewell to Dave's Tart Tatin, longing for more, before heading home together. This dessert was truly a wo...

I started with delicious sweet mussels, followed by a turbot dish. My husband enjoyed a mozzarella starter, followed by lamb, and we shared a dish of potatoes. The food was so delectable that we found ourselves eating in silence, too engrossed in the flavors to chat. The plates were practically spotless by the end of our meal. We concluded our dinner with a cheese plate, followed by an incredible shared chocolate pudding. The waitress's wine recommendations did not disappoint, as we enjoyed glasses of different varieties throughout our meal. Overall, the restaurant provided a relaxing atmosphere with outstanding food and excellent service. While it was a bit on the pricier side, it was well...

Wow, another exceptionally good lunch, thank you Dave Polly! We are so lucky to have The Folkestone Wine Company in our neighbourhood, we have been countless times since it opened and the food and service continue to blow us away. We were warmly welcomed by Polly with a glass of St John Rosé before our lunch. Yes, it is a shortish menu small but perfectly formed, like the restaurant. Always seasonal, it changes by the day and I am spoiled for choice. We shared the punchy wild garlic soup and a gorgonzola risotto with broccoli (creamy and dreamy), along with some molinari salami. For mains we opted for melt in the mouth rump of lamb with turnips and salsa verde (I can't get enough of that sub...
