"Located on a busy street in the central part of Hamburg, this place is cosy and relaxed. I went to Franzi, as I was looking for vegetarian food, and since often restaurants in Germany don't have English menu, I wanted to be safe and to be able to choose anything. This place does have an English version of the menu. I had to wait for quite a while for someone to come up to me and offer that menu though. However, from that point on, the staff was friendly and helpful. I went to Franz twice for supper. First time I had a veggie pie and a side salad, and the second time - a large salad with beets, greens and falafel. Both tasted great. I also had tea made of freshly grated ginger with good quality honey. The tea was delicious! The place is quite busy. Both times I was there, it was practically full. My understanding is that they take reservations, but only for parties of three and up."

I popped in here for lunch and had a really tasty vegan burger with a really lovely avocado sauce on top. Not expensive.

Good selection of vegetarian food – relatively traditional. It tasted fine but I would have preferred a little more spicyness or tweak in some direction. Staff speaks English.

We had to ask to order our food because no one came. Then we would have liked to order some more drinks but no one came. The place looks great, the food and drinks are good but the service was really inattentive. Restroom could have used a quick clean too. Sorry to say that I won't go there again.

I came here on my own while travelling and had a great meal. The staff were super bright and friendly. There were a lot of nutritious and delicious sounding options to choose from and I chose Preiselburger. It was absolutely delicious, and the side of sesame sweet potato chips was also excellent. Definition recommend. View menu

On a solo city trip, I was looking for vegan/vegetaian food and found this little place. Lovely atmosphere and good food. I had the avocado burger (börger as they call it) with rosmary, poppy seed potatoes. The potatoes were a bit greasy though and the waiters aren't the fastest. Apart from that, everything was fabulous and I will definitely go back!

I like this restaurant very much. It is relaxed has relaxed staff and serves good food which flavors are rightly balanced. It has a small menu with little choice (see foto's) but the quality is very good and the flavor is surprising. You can make your own combi with the dip and dressing for the salad. Another surprise: they serve a reasonable coffee as well (unlike the feeze dried stuff which some restaurants serve If you order a decaf).

We initially came here for a couple of soy coffees, but returned later for food as it looked so good. And it was! We both had burgers - mine was the avocado burger, my partner had the classic burger - and we shared a plate of sesame sweet potatoes (so good, we have tried to replicate on our return home). Really delicious burgers, the patties themselves were very tasty, not just mush, and all the toppings were well thought out. Nice ambience (not quite a cafe, but definitely casual), friendly staff, and English menus! View menu

I took a friend here for an al fresco lunch date and it didn't disappoint! The atmosphere was very relaxed and the staff, especially our waitress 'Kat' were friendly and accommodating. The menu selection is lovely for light lunches or more substantial meals. I had the falafel with side salad which was delicious, but I must say I had slight food envy looking at my friends aubergine burger. Coffees were good and the decor inside is cool and modern!Highly recommend for vegetarians, vegans and any foody looking for a fresh meal!

We found this place by accident and as a vegetarian travelling in a country with a very meat heavy diet it was a welcome find. The food was good, the decor was lovely and the staff were very helpful, especially when I explained that I had a nut allergy. We had the veggie burgers, one with mushrooms and the other with avocado and we had a side of sweet potato fries, all were delicious. The only slight negative was the lemonade. I ordered the classic lemonade, my husband ordered the mint and ginger lemonade and we couldn't tell the difference. However this did not affect our experience.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
